Black friday buddies 2010 unite! BACK FROM THE TRENCHES POST YOUR WAR STORIES!

Ok - so I got the last white DSI (on sale today at Target for $119) at my Target this afternoon. Now can anyone tell me what the heck would stop me from being able to even exchange it for a different color in a couple of days? Couldn't I even take it to GameStop and just do an even exchange without a receipt?

Morals. Sorry had to be said. If you didn't purchase it at Gamestop, its wrong to take it back there to exchange it.

Hi guys,

I just found this thread after searching Black Friday deals online all day! :rotfl: I'm looking for a good deal on a laptop, and I think I found one at Best Buy for a Sony...but it's a doorbuster item...what does that mean? Does that mean if the store opens at 5am, I have to get there at like 3am and fight my way in through the crowds? :scared1: Do they ask you what you want while you're in line or do they just open the doors and let people go crazy? I've never shopped on black friday, especially for doorbuster deals so this is all new to me!

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

Best Buy seems to be a place that most ppl camp out for days in advance to grab their doorbusters. It might be a real challenge to snag that laptop if you get in line just a few hours early.

This will likely depend on how many Best Buy are around you vs what the population is also.

I am fairly sure they hand out tickets for their doorbusters though. Last yr I went around 7 and grabbed the surround sound that I was looking for. Don't believe it was a doorbuster.

Besy Buy is usually insane around here. People will line up at 8pm on Thanksgiving night. People take tents and everything. If you go, good luck to you. And get a warranty...their customer service and business practices are horrible!

So for those of you that did Target on Black Friday last year, could you please share your experience? We are going for a big ticket item that they do not normallly have in stock. The store opens at 4:00 a.m. Does Target hand out tickets for the doorbuster items when you are waiting outside, or will I have to search for it in the store that morning and just hope I turn the right way? Also, what time would you recommend getting there if I want a good chance at the item? Thanks!

Targets around here usually begin to form a line 2-3 hours before they open. The stores in my area will only open one set of doors and a line forms there. They do not hand out tickets, but employees will ask you what you want and tell you where the item is in the store. In my area the local police come in to monitor the crowd. Unfortunately people will wait in their cars until the store opens and then try to rush the line. Fortunately between the cops and store employees, they are able to keep the cheaters at bay.

That is good to know. I am planning on getting there around that time. I want to hit Walmart for their DvDs first. I am rly hoping to be under 20th in line to get that TV but it might not happen.

Last year I went to Target an hour before closing on Thanksgiving Eve and bought a doorbuster 32" TV and a doorbuster GPS system. My friend that was with me also bought the same TV and a doorbuster camera. Everything was out on the shelves by that time. We went back in the next day after the mad rush had passed and easily got price adjustments on everything. We were told by a guy on the sales floor who had to go retrieve the TV's from the back room that we would not get a price adjustment the next day, but we decided to give it a shot anyway. If we didn't get the PA, we'd just return the items for a full refund.

Well, it was no problem at all to get the price adjustment. I'd do that before standing in line for hours in the cold.

The same products promoted in its Thanksgiving Ads -- including doorbusters -- will be available on BestBuy.com starting Thanksgiving Day. Best Buy is also offering free shipping on online orders through Dec. 21, excluding laptops, iPads, iPods and some major appliances.

Also, did you see the Best Buy ad in today's paper? They have similar laptops for a little less. The only difference I can see in the specs is that the one on sale right now has a 250 GB hard drive vs 350 on BF, but the memory on the one you can get right now is better -- 4GB vs only 3GB. I also think the battery life is better on the one you can get now (Gateway). It's hard to read the really tiny print in the scanned BF ad, but it looks like the memory on the BF sale computer is 3 hrs. The one on sale now is 4 hours.

Target.com will be having an online sale starting at 3:00AM EST on Thanksgiving through 2:59 AM Black Friday. I saw it on another board, nothing specific mentioned just up tp 50% off cameras, televisions, a blue ray player and a video game console. These deals are not the same as the ones they will have for BF. Also, from Nov 21 to Dec 11 get free shipping on orders over $50 on more than 800,000 items.

Last year we got to target about 12:30, and there were people in the parking lot in their cars but no one lined up at the door so we went ahead and lined up and the line quickly formed. I'd say depending on your area if you want a doorbuster item, go around midnight to get in line.

Locally Target doesn't hand out tickets, but I've heard some locations do (or are supposed to) though I've never seen that in practice.

The store employees come out about half an hour before the store opens and hand out maps of the store so you can find the big ticket items which is nice. If you have specific questions employees will walk up and down the line outside and try and answer your questions.

Target is one of the worst places for people trying to go from their car to the front of the line when the store opens for some reason, but usually target employees, security and local cops are there to keep the line cutters at bay.

We usually have a good experience at Target, but my advice is always get their earlier than you think you'll need to, just to be sure you get what you really want.

I've tried to keep up with this thread - but haven't seen it posted yet. Did a google to no avail. Anyone know if I can find it yet?

People here are in line by 2pm Thursday for Best Buy :confused3
I always like to drive by to see, lol.
I've never seen anything in there ad that would make me do that!

I'm a veteran of BF at Target for both 2008 and 2009.

My advice to you is to get there early. As for how early, it depends on the size of your town, and how many other Target stores are within close range (I have 3 within a 10-mile radius -- many more beyond that).

No, Target does not hand-out tickets for doorbusters -- those items will be on special pallets throughout the store (in other words, if you are looking for a TV, it will not be in the electronics dept.). Someone from management will be passing-out customized store maps telling you exactly where the specials are.

I understand those same maps will also be on Target.com on Thanksgiving Day, which is something new.

Good Luck!

There is a couple here in Florida that has already been in line at Best Buy since Thursday. :scared1:

That is just taking it too far. Best Buy does not have the best deals and their customer service is HORRIBLE! I shopped there once, got burned with a product that had been used and returned before I bought it. They refused to do anything put send it to their service department. In 18 months my camera was "fixed" 8 times! :scared1: Lesson learned...never again!

anyone seen a good price on a camera? just a small digital one, my 8 year old has that on her wish list.

So I think I have my game plan:

Thursday:
KMart (opens 6 am)
Beatles Rock Band
Christmas tree craft kit

then CVS for their freebies.

then Walgreens for their freebies.

then Michaels for a few things for me!

Black Friday:

Target
Westinghouse 40 in 60 Hz 1080 p LCD TV $298
Super Mario Wii $49.99 plus $10 gift card
Movies $1.99, $3.99
Friends $9.99
flannel or jersey sheets $13.99
Sherpa lined hoodies $10
women’s satin pj set Gillian and OMalley $9.99
3 piece pajama set $9.99

then JCPenney:
Fashion boots $29.99 (4 a – 1 pm only)
Oster Blender $19.88 (4am – 1 pm only)
Oster Wine Chiller $19.88 (4 am – 1 pm only)
Saphire earrings, silver key necklace, tiffany style bracelet $9.99 (4am – 1 pm only)
Worthington blouses $13.99 (4 am – 1 pm only)
twin pack pillows $7.99 (4 am – 1 pm only)
wii storage tower $48.88 (4 am – 1 pm only)
lamps $23.88

Nothing on my list is a must have! I get what I get. But these are the only things that were things I could use that are a good price. I already bought my teen DDs a Nook and accessories. I bought my mom the Acer netbook. I have other small gifts for the girls, but their big gift will just be a Visa gift card so they can buy what they want. I'm tired of returning all the clothes I buy for them!

Maggie
