Black friday buddies 2010 unite! BACK FROM THE TRENCHES POST YOUR WAR STORIES!

So give me a mini course! What do I need to look for in the power source?

You need to make sure it is powerful enough to handle to load placed on it with the rest of the components. You can look up the minimum requirements for the different components on the websites for the products. So if you are looking at a Nvidia video card, you would find the minimum requirements on the Nvidia website.

Pretty much it comes down to this... if you buy a cheap computer, then you get a cheap computer. A current, top end system will cost one about $1800+ (custom built though we did the building ourselves). So, if you are buying a system that is $300 then you need to know what you are getting.

:confused3 I'll stick with a cheap computer then. I don't need an $1800 computer to read here, check email, and do my grad school work. :scared1:

I need help too! If you know alot about digi cameras!!;) I need something for my DS7 and DD11. I was looking at the Kodaks at WM and Target (I think) or I saw a Canon somewhere but it was a little more. I know Canon makes a good camera...........but my biggest concern is blurry pics. Help.....:confused3

Oh and I think you are right about the Nikon point and shoots. At least by the reviews I have been reading!
I haven't kept up on camera reviews lately. I generally would buy a Canon over a Kodak but I would do a search for reviews on the models you are thinking of.

I bought a Panasonic for a trip this summer to have a longer zoom that I really like but I don't think you'd want to spend $300+ for a kid. I found this review helpful in that purchase. It is almost 6 months old now so it might be outdated but it might give you some insights:

:thumbsup2Good luck!

I went ahead and went to Target today to get the Wii... I figure if I luck out and find another that's cheaper I'll return that one. With the coupon and with tax it came out to $190 and change. I got the red one which came with the sports and a mario game which is best because my niece and nephew are little.

I also went to game stop and got an extra controller and Zelda.. each $30. I'm hoping to find these cheaper, however.... I can return them as long as they are not opened...

Exactly the way I feel....I bought a $1900 Alienware laptop about 2.5 yrs ago and I have since then replaced it with a $500 Gateway with much much better specs that runs inf better.

Technology moves to fast for you to get the latest and greatest right away. In 3 months your $1900 computer is as out of date as my $300 computer. I have dealt with $300 computers all my life and they last fine for a few years till I want to upgrade.

I have also used Celeron computers and agree they are not the best but haven't had many issues with them.

can anyone recommend which blu-ray player to buy from wal-mart on BF? no reviews found on the magnavox, the LG reviews are just okay, no reviews on the sony (at least, not on c-net) and the sharp blu-ray player at walgreens thanksgiving day gets HORRIBLE reviews. HELP!

Alienware was always known to be over priced for what you got. A $1900 Alienware PC could be built for about $1300 when you buy all the parts separate and build it yourself.

What you spend on a computer is based off of what you DO with a computer. If you want to play the newest and best games, then you need to spend more money on it. If all you do is email and web surfing, then you don't need to spend as much. Heck, a netbook will do that.

What I am trying to do is make sure people KNOW what they are getting. Too many times I have seen parents buy the "deal" computer for their kid and then be upset that it's not very powerful. All I want to say is "what did you expect for $300?" People need to educate themselves on what they purchase. Doesn't matter if you spend $1800 or $300.

I PERSONALLY would rather put more money up front and not have to upgrade for 5-7 years then buy it cheap and upgrade in 3 years. Same with most of the people I know (I hang out with gamers/builders/programmers).

I have a LG blu-ray and love it. Their products get decent reviews and are a good price point.

Sony systems are usually more expensive but are also good products.

When I was researching players, I looked at Magnavox. They did not get good reviews in general. An ongoing theme I saw for them were issues getting updates for the system. Without these updates, there are chances that the system won't work. Needless to say, they were crossed off my list.

We're getting our first Blu-Ray player this year and I know that I am looking for an Internet Ready unit that I can plug an Ethernet cable into.

Hello everyone. Can you please tell me what page has the list of all the store sales. Thanks

i am leaning toward the LG. DH wanted the sharp aquos blu-ray player at walgreens, since our TV is a sharp aquos, but the reviews on it are SOOOO bad, i'm not risking it. i was surprised, because sharp products are usually very good-our last sharp TV lasted over 17 years.

Honestly I can't see not upgrading a computer in 5-7 years even if you grab top of the line. I do see your point though.

I don't know anyone who plays "high end" games on PC but I played MMOs for years and never had a prob with a low end computer with a cheap new video card added in.

Well...I hear good things about LG but I personally kinda like Sony and I am leaning towards that myself. The Magnovox I haven't heard overly bad things about but a cpl reviews I saw said that the wifi range is very small.

The Best Buy branded one is best with local media content if thats important to you and also has built in WiFi.

I plan on getting the Sony from Costco...its a rebranded form of the Sony that is on sale everywhere for $99 but it comes with HDMI cord. I think Sony is pretty good brand and I think it should be a good player.

Just kinda depends on what you want/need it for other then just playing Blu ray/dvd.

do blu rays play reg dvds as well?

They also upconvert them to HD!

Tell your husband "Just because they make a good TV doesn't mean they will make a good everything." This can be very true with electronics.

Just make sure to read everything closely. Make sure it is internet "ready" AND has an ethernet port. This is how I have my LG set up.

Does anyone know what stuff we can buy from Walmart online this year? Adn when the online buying can start? I can't seem to find the info anywhere. I'm interested in the bluray player but will be in disney.

if you go to walmart.com then click "local ad" and choose the thanksgiving ad, you can click on the items you want and a box will come up, telling if the item is available online as well as in-store. everything i want is available online
