Black Friday Buddies 2009 Unite! SCORE REPORTS, WAIT STORIES, HAULS FOR DAY!!

Walmart to Stay Open to Avoid ‘Black Friday’ Lines
By Chris Burritt
Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will leave most
of its 833 U.S. discount stores open overnight on Thanksgiving
to avoid crowds gathering to get specials the following morning
after an employee was trampled to death a year ago.
Most of those stores will remain open after their regular
closing hour of 11 p.m., allowing customers to remain inside to
wait for the “Black Friday” special prices that start at 5
a.m., David Tovar, a company spokesman, said today in a
telephone interview.
Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, developed plans for
each of its stores to manage the flow of customers as they get
in, seek discounted merchandise, check out and leave on “Black
Friday.” The store in Valley Stream, New York, where Jdimytai
Damour, a temporary worker, was trampled on Nov. 28, 2008, is
among those staying open overnight, Tovar said.
“We would anticipate not having these long lines outside
the stores,” Tovar said from Bentonville, Arkansas, where
Walmart is based. The company’s 2,705 supercenters, which sell
general merchandise and groceries, already operate 24 hours a
day.
The holiday shopping season traditionally starts on so-
called Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, which falls on
Nov. 26 this year. Jockeying for discounted merchandise may
intensify this year as rising unemployment makes consumers more
desperate for bargains and retailers deepen markdowns to spur
sales, National Retail Federation executives said yesterday on a
conference call.

Spreading Items

The NRF recommended merchants coordinate crowd control with
local police and assign employees to interact with shoppers, as
well as spread discounted items, which Walmart plans to do.
Such steps are intended to “lessen the anxiety of those
lines of customers,” Rhett Asher, the NRF’s vice president of
loss prevention, said on the call. “The times are tough for
everybody. It’s no secret that customers are working harder for
those deals.”
In May, Walmart agreed to a crowd-control plan for Black
Friday events at its New York stores to avoid prosecution in
Damour’s death. The agreement with Nassau County District
Attorney Kathleen Rice didn’t include an admission of guilt or
wrongdoing by the retailer.
Walmart rose 31 cents to $52.31 at 4:01 p.m. in New York
Stock Exchange composite trading. The shares have slumped 6.7
percent this year.

Target BF $10GC WYB $100 until 12 noon
I was at Target this morning. I saw a team member reading a flyer before I checked out. As he was scanning my coupons I noticed that he had layed his flyer down in the bagging area. I dd not have the balls to pick it up, but I was able to read the side facing upwards. If you spend $100 you will recieve a $10 GC until noon on BF. I imagine this will work w/ the other GC deals that Target may have on BF as well as the Glade GC deal. Sorry I don't know more, but I figured someone would want to know this much.

How do you find out about the secret saturday sales at walmart? I hate that I missed that computer :(

I arrived at Walmart at 7AM and was the 17th person in line for a laptop. They only received 16:sad2: The manager who works there told me to get checking back because they were supposed to receive another shipment. When I checked back tonight, the guy who works in electronics told me to check back on Saturday. According to him, Walmart will be running the laptop deal again this weekend in select stores. They have not announced which stores.

Also, the slickdeals website is reporting that BestBuy will have a similar laptop on sale tomorrow for $250.00. HTH!

Does anyone know how the 24hour Super WalMarts handle BF are the ope Thanksgiving or will they open at midnight with the sale starting at 5am !!??????

How many of these games do you think they have? I would be very interested in getting it but 3am is really really early, especially if I don't get one. We usually leave by 5am so whats two hours earlier right? Give me your opinions.

I plan to be in line by around 2:15 or 2:30 am at the latest. My closest store is in the mall. When I got the MP3 players that they gave away 2 years ago, they had about 15-20. Of course, the players were generic! They were very orderly and distributed wristbands while people were still in line.

Our Wal-mart stays open 24hrs. They put the stuff out and have employees stand around it until it is time. You can look but not touch. Electronics has it's own line with vouchers. Things still go a little crazy when the sale starts.

Hmm. Not so much from Target for me this year. But I'm not really after any hot deals - don't need a camera, laptop, etc. this year. Target is usually where I start out! And no TV on DVD sets this year? or did I miss them? I got Dexter and Monk and Seinfeld and Friends from there before.

I might get the electric blanket $19.99 as I need a couple this year. DH also wants a wine fridge, so I might check out the one at target for $59.99. I'm also asking for an iPod touch for Christmas, but I doubt I can get DH there for Black Friday to get the gift card deal.

Maggie

Wow, I'm not as thrilled with targets ad this year. In years past there has always been a lot of stuff we got at target, this year I'm not sure. In store they have tons of things stacked floor to ceiling that I thought would be in their BF ad and are missing.

I am also not a fan of them opening at 5am this year. Last year they opened at 6am and we were able to hit BB then still make it to target early enough to line up before they opened. If we still do BB first this year, by the time we make it to target all electronics deals will be gone.

If more stores would stagger their opening times it'd be so much better.

I'm bummed about old navy opening at 3 that definitely makes my plan of attack harder to figure out. Normally I do Walmart & then Target :(
There are few things I'm looking at, electric blanket, $3 t's, $7 sweatshirts nothing spectacular though.

Check the actual ad scan for target, they did have some TV series box sets listed, but keep a check on BB too because they usually do a decent amount of TV box sets in their sale also.

The news just had a segment on how they are training employees to handle Black Friday - Wal-Mart says day-after-Thanksgiving sales will begin at 5 a.m. Nov. 27, but most U.S. stores will be open 24 hours to prevent a mad dash. The announcement doesn't affect most of Wal-Mart's Supercenters, which are already open 24 hours.
