BL Summer Challenge 2009

I haven't been on much either, I initially thought the summer would slow down and allow more time for exercise, being on the boards more, etc. but it hasn't showed any sign of slowing down and if anything it has gotten busier. We have been able to get to the lake for a night here and a night there which is always a welcomed break.

The WI's haven't moved a lot this challenge but it is all my doings for not exercising and not staying OP as well as I was before summer hit.

Hope everyone is doing well and having a great Monday so far!!!

QOTD: Do you eat fish and if so, what's your favorite? And if not, are you taking any kind of supplement that provides those essential oils?

I can handle it some but not a huge fan of it. Most of the time it is flounder and fried but I work it into my weekend if that is what we are doing. DH could eat fish every meal and be happy though.

QOTD: Do you ask questions of your server and have menu items 'tweeked' to fit in with your food plan or are you only willing/able to ask to have 'bad' things (french fries) substitued with 'good' things (fruit). How far are you willing to go to get what works for you?

I will usually just make a choice from the menu that fits with how I plan to eat that meal. If it is a little splurge then I order or if I need to really watch it I will get a salad with dressing on the side and maybe some grilled chicken, etc. on it.

We eat a ton of fish -- I like haddock and salmon, and we also eat alot of shellfish -- clams, shrimp, scallops, and some lobster. When it's cold, we eat plenty of seafood chowder.

One of the perks of living so close to the ocean -- when we lived in the Midwest we didn't eat nearly as much fish. I liked walleye and bluegill, but I never acquired the taste for catfish.

Oh the BEST piece of fish I ever ate was a walleye I caught MYSELF (at age 12) and was grilled over an open fire after a long day playing in the sun and water! A GREAT memory. (I can still smell it cooking!)

(Hmmmmmm.....tomorrow's topic/qotd just might be about memorable meals vs indulging cravings :scratchin )

Mostly I don't think about being healthy when I eat out, just get what I want. And since I don't like sour cream, mayo, mustard, most salad dressings, I will ask for my food to not have the stuff I don't like.

QOTD: What will you do this week to keep the momentum going (or restart) as we head into the home strech of our Biggest Loser Challenge?

Onward & Downward!

My plan is keep going with the exercising I got in last week. I know I can do it, I just have to choose to keep doing it. :goodvibes

QOTD: Fish?
I really like fish, but mostly only eat it when we are dining out. Any hints on purchasing and preparing fish at home are appreciated!

QOTD: Restaurant special order?
I'm with LuvBaloo...

:thumbsup2 I will sometimes choose the healthiest option I can, and other times let myself enjoy the dinner out.

QOTD: Momentum for the final few weeks of BL?
I've been good with calories and working out, but I need to incorporate more fruits and veggies. I'm trying, but they're not something I really want to eat, and don't like taking the time to prepare. If I could have a personal chef, I'm sure I would eat 7 fruit & veg servings a day. LOL

pb --do you have a Whole Foods nearby? their salmon is excellent (expensive but worth it) and they have a few marinades for fish that are really good

i'm here with a big L stamped on my forehead. this summer is out of control and that means my healthy living is right there hanging over the cliff

i have 3 wks until we leave for Disney....once again i make pledge to stick to it

thanks for letting me pop in and out and still being my friends :grouphug:

Friendly reminder, in case you've just forgotten to send it in. Usually I get about 3 weigh-ins after I post this, so I keep doing it. There's no pressure intended.

Happy to see you popping in! Summer is hard, and many of us are struggling in this challenge!

I used up half my weekly flex points on ice cream last night. It was Purdy's hedgehog ice cream and tasted just like their hedgehog chocolates. It was delicious, and if I can be reasonably good the rest of the week, I'll be within my points allowed. This weekend, was festival time, so eating out at BBQ and at food stands in the park, but I think I managed to track it all and made enough good choices to stay in my points allowed. Plus lots of walking around helps burn the calories off.

Ok, well I lost 1 pound this week, which compared to 1 weeks ago when I lost 10 pounds (and promptly put 3 back on) isn't a lot but.....I finally hit my 5% weight loss goal at WW. I am realy pleased with myself because any other time |I have joined WW I have given up before I got that far. No one else around me seems to understan that it is a big deal. They say well done but you can just tell they don't get it. It is a huge deal for me though.

Ok, now for the QOTD's. These are probably not in order but hey ho.

QOTD:- Fish. I used to absolutely hate the taste of fish and it always annoyed me because it always looked so appetising. I kept buying fish and then cooking it only to throw it away because I just couldn't stand the taste.
Then came along DS. When I was pregnant with him, I couldn't get enough of the stuff (also Indian food and Chocolate milkshakes). I am so pleased that even afte I had him I still realyy enjoyed fish and the other foods. It is such a great healthy option.

QOTD:- Telling Servers. Yes, I tell my servers generally if I want a healthier option but other than that no. I often switch creamy dressings for vinagarette dressings. I also switch fries for salad or new potatoes.

QOTD:- Momentum. I think my tonisilitis and consequent weight loss really has spurred me on to conitnue to lose. I hit a turning point in my life today. I have been having a really hard time at work and thought to myself "I'm gonna have a chocolate bar" (my go to hit). Then, I just thought to myself "No way. I deserve to be slim despite how things are at work. I will not let a bad time destroy all of my hard work." I was really pleased with myself. However, I am indulging in copious glasses of wine now so I can't be too smug. lol.

Hope everyone is having a good OP week and keep up the good work. You are so worth it.

Just a quick drive by. Doing ok eating...need to get in more exersize. Good besides that! Hope to drop another 20 by mid september...just saw some pics of myself...not good, not good at all.

Sarah

maznorm, a big congratulations to you on losing 5%! :cool1::cool1::cool1: That is a super milestone and will help you to get to your next goal. Good job!

QOTD: What will you do this week to keep the momentum going (or restart) as we head into the home strech of our Biggest Loser Challenge?

Summer is hard for a lot of us but I figure that it is better than gaining and having more to lose when we start another challenge in the fall. :goodvibes This week to get my momentum going again, I am going to faithfully keep track of my points and do my best to stay on track and I am going to exercise every single day. I am going to really use the next few weeks to get that exercise habit nailed down because that is what is really going to do it for me getting healthy.

Molli, I was wondering how your test garden is doing when I was putting Miracle Gro on my flowers this week-end. :flower3:

Shannon, I have never heard of hedgehog ice cream -- it sounds intriguing! :goodvibes

Jackie, every year we eat at a restaurant in Iowa that serves walleye cheeks for an appetizer -- they are delicious! Did you have to clean your walleye after you caught it? It won't be long until you and TiggersPal are leaving for your cruise!

Have a great evening, losers!

No, my girlfriends Dad did the cleaning and cooking (I don't think he wanted me messing with a knife!).

47 days till I leave...a week later for Peg....we just completed all our DCL on line paperwork today! :woohoo:

.
Happy to report a wholesome day so far! And as the sun is now behind storm clouds, it's cooler and I will do my grocery shopping and pick us something nice for dinner. :thumbsup2''.

Where is everyone this morning? It is almost 11 am here in jersey and no one has checked in yet.

I'm sorry I didn't check in yesterday. Had a lot on my mind. Dh sugggested on SUnday that we go away just the 2 of us for a couple of days at the end of Aug before ds2 goes back to school and we go back Sept 1st. Where did he suggest? To my surprise DW:banana::banana: I got a great airfare out of Atlantic City and we are going to stay in Port Orleams FQ. I wanted POP but they were sold out. It's not as cheap as I wanted but we have stayed at FQ before and we do love it there. Dh now wants to do a tour. I don't want to since we only have 4 days but we may.

I have another doctor's appointment tomorrow and the last cast is coming off. I don't think I am going to fit into a shoe yet but I think by next week I should. After that I need to get back into walking before we go to DW.

Have a great day everyone.

Dona - That's so awesome that you've planned a last minute trip!

Someone asked if we had Whole Foods to buy fish - we do but it's 35-45 minutes away. We also have Lund's & Byerly's, which are fancy grocery stores, but they are 25 minutes away. Most of our shopping is done at Super Target, which has pretty awful meat and seafood. I have never enjoyed fish I've bought frozen, maybe I'm just doing it wrong. :confused3

It's 12 pm here and guess where I am....on the Magical Express bus!

We only have 2 nights, but it will be great anyway. We're staying in a studio at BWV. My weight is sure to go the wrong direction this week!

Donac-congrats on your spur of the moment trip. We're keeping our trip a secret from the kids, so we had to hide everything and not do much planning. They'd be ticked if they knew we were here!

Gotta go, they just started the movie!

Yep, we've been a quiet group here lately. I think that everyone is out enjoying the summer and staying off the computer! :sunny:

Congratulations, donac, on getting your last cast off tomorrow and having a DW trip in the works. :thumbsup2 I've seen pictures of FQ and it looks beautiful. What kinds of a tour are you thinking of doing? We did Behind the Seeds once and it was very interesting if you are into a lot of gardening -- I know that you guys do a lot of yardwork for family members so that may not be your thing.

Jackie, it's always nice to have someone clean and cook your fish for you. :)
Even as an adult I won't do that myself!

This is crunch week at the office getting ready to go on vacation next week. You can't work all the time no matter what! After Lake Okoboji we will be home for three weeks and then off to DL.

Our school starts after Labor Day. They were going to start school on the
1st here but there was such a hue and cry about returning before Labor Day that they changed the schedule -- we will finish later in June this time. I can tell that DS is getting ready to go back as he was asking about school supplies this week. :lmao:

Have a great day all!
