BL Summer Challenge 2009

I am stunned. I was really expecting a big gain, and instead I lost 1.2! I could not be more pleased. Now I'm more determined than ever to rededicate myself to reaching my goals.

I am going to do a better job of answering the QOTD, too, because that gets me here and learning from everyone else!

I try to weigh in every morning. This week was the first time all month I didn't do that. I just felt like I was gaining, so I stayed off the scale. I really didn't have any idea how I was doing this week. I've learned my lesson. I'm going back to the daily weigh-ins, because I need the feedback. I made myself crazy for no reason this morning.

Maria :upsidedow

Well, I was out of town for a couple days, then busy getting ready for a bridal shower I hosted at my house, so I haven't been on the computer for about a week. I'm only down 1.2 this week, but considering I was away for a couple days and having to eat out, I guess that's not too bad.

QOTD-I usually weigh myself every day. Sometimes it's depressing because the weight can fluctuate so much from day to day and show a gain even if I'm OP, but I can't manage to stay off the darn scale!

:
I'll be weighing later after I send the fellas to work and school and do some TM time. I am having a mental health day. I know it's frowned upon, but trust me, it is clearly needed. I had a surly attitude yesterday, and I need to get back in touch with me and away from the crazy at work. Plus, I really need a jumpstart on working out and eating right. This week has not been pretty, and honestly I'm expecting to gain lbs not ounces. It's like I just took a week off from everything.

Anyway, best of luck today to everyone with the weigh-in! I hope you have all been much more diligent than I (or even paying attention :rotfl2:), and you have fabulous results!

Maria :upsidedow

Maria, a mental health day should never be frowned upon. I like to call them ME days. And it is something you deserve. We must make time for ourselves.

Good morning, Losers!! Hope everyone has a good weighin, and if you aren't happy with the number, don't despair, change something up this week, and next week will be better. I am going to be the coach this week, and hope to be able to check in a couple times a day. Thanks Pjlla for the awesome coaching last week.

Friday qotd - How often to you weigh yourself, and how does that help or hinder your ability to stay on track?

I also have the love/hate thing going on. My official WI is at my WW meetings on friday. But I do check my weight at home on monday, to see if I need to put in extra efforts for weekend over indulgences. And I also check friday morning, kind of a prelim for my meeting. But lately I have been checking every day and I really want to get away from that habit. It is not very helpful cause if there is a slight increase in can bring me down and effect my attitude.

I weigh myself every morning. Sometimes I even weigh before bed and try to guess what number I'll get in the morning! It's been fun to weigh because I've lost 52 pounds! I know about the fluctuations, so I don't let it bother me if the scale doesn't cooperate for a little while! I love the scale these days!

:banana:Wow , 52 pounds. Congrats and :cheer2:to your continued success.

Dow 2.5 this week! YEAH!

QOTD

I also weigh each morning. I've learned to play my mental game...if it doesn't look good I know I have to be 100% on plan. If it does look good...I don't want to blow it for weigh in day.

Here's a water retention helplful hint.....WATERMELON. This week my rings were just a-spinning on my fingers. Last evening I suddenly noticed they were tight and leaving marks on my fingers. I realized I had had a frozen Healthy Choice for lunch and figured it was probably sodium packed. So last night before bed I had a serving of watermelon, as I'd remembered my sister told me her homeopath had recommended that. Apparently it worked! :)

.

Jackie, you are doing so well. Thanks for the watermelon tip. I love watermelon and will give this a try.

Friday qotd - How often to you weigh yourself, and how does that help or hinder your ability to stay on track?

I weight myself every a.m. NOT a good idea sometimes. If I have a gain, I tend to just want to throw in the towel. If I lose, it motivates me to stay on track. I wish I wasn't so driven by that darn number, but it's stuck in my head.

Have a great weekend my fellow losers!!!

~Karen

Congrats to other who have lost weight - and congrats to those who didn't too - everyone is working hard and deserves some kudos! ;)

I'm down exactly what I predicted and planned for: 1.8 pounds. I'm not as thrilled as I was after last week's weigh in, but I suppose I should be. Good solid loss.

Friday qotd - How often to you weigh yourself, and how does that help or hinder your ability to stay on track?

Now that I'm doing DIS Biggest Loser, I weigh myself every Friday (of course!) and one or 2 other times during the week. Before starting this I was weighing myself a lot less frequently - only a few times a month. Back in Feb & March I was weighing myself a few times a week and seeing no results despite working out everyday. I got so frustrated that I started eating a lot more sweets, completely defeating all of my exercising! Tracking my calories everyday is really helping, so I use that and how my clothes fit in combination with my weight to judge how well I'm doing.

Lost 2.2 lbs this week. But man, I fought for them! I stayed on track every day and the scale didn't budge at all the first few days. That's a hint to my answer to the question of the day!

I weigh myself every weekday morning (not weekend because I work out at varying times). I weigh myself just after working out in the morning, kinda my own personal "last chance workout" before I get on the scale - ha ha.

I had a loss! :cool1::cool1: Very pleased.

I only weigh myself at my WW meeting once a week. I figure I am only going to use one scale, since scales can be different, and I only am around that scale once a week, so there you go. I like the once a week thing because it keeps me trying to lose since I have no idea what I am at. I don't feel like I am losing weight even though I am staying on plan so I feel I constantly have to be on gaurd and trying. It works pretty well, though I have, in the past, done the "weigh every morning without clothes, after potty, before shower" thing.

Have a great day...I am off to pm our keepers!

I am up 2.2 lbs because I have been going off plan every evening. In fact, I can't remember a single day I've stuck with my eating plan of 4 meals/400 calories each for 1600 calories. I resolve today will be the day I do!

I also have to muster the energy to get downstairs and workout once my husband gets home (usually it's about 9:30 pm before he gets home and gets settled enough for me to go downstairs -- he will then take care of the kids if they wake up while I am down there). I have yet to do this but it really is the only way I can workout on a regular basis. I am so wiped out at the end of the day but I have to force myself.

I weigh myself every morning unless I know I have gone wayyyy off plan.

Hi ...

Is it too late to join? I joined a weight loss group on the boards last year but couldn't participate because I got pregnant ... but now I'm very ready to get on the weight loss bandwagon!

I lost 25 pounds during my pregnancy, which everyone says is great, but it wasn't an overly healthy situation--I'd like to lose my weight in a healthy way and not because of a medical situation. Does that make sense, or just sound stupid?

So, my goal is to lose 30 pounds by the end of September. I know that may be unrealistic, but I'd like to get as close to that as I can. My plan is to stick to a 1300-calorie-a-day diet and try to get in at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise a day (which can be hard with this little one to care for!

I hope to break my idle-snacking habit, which has been my downfall ... I've been known to think back over the day and not remember a lot of what I snacked on!

Looking forward to watching the pounds melt!

:welcome: Have you tried any of those "exercising with baby" videos? I never did a video, but I did try to use my kids as part of my exercising. For example, lay baby on your lower tummy while you do curl ups or another one is lay on the floor like your sitting in a chair and hold baby on your shins and then bring legs up to chest or raise and lower your feet.

:yay::woohoo::yay:Happy Birthday Donac! :yay::woohoo::yay:

Thanks to last weeks coach PJLLA and an early thanks to this weeks coach MIKAMAH!:cool1::thumbsup2

Friday qotd - How often to you weigh yourself, and how does that help or hinder your ability to stay on track?

I don't weigh myself daily. I used, but it didn't motivate me. Now I weigh myself Fridays (or Sat is my tummy isn't feeling good on Friday). Sometimes I'll do a midweek weigh-in if I think it will re-motivate me, but usually not.

I have a question--
I pm'd my actual weight this morning--- is that correct//-- or should we pm the actual weight loss for week???

Sending in your actual weight is perfect!:thumbsup2

I weighed myself this morning, and I'm up 1.8lbs :sad2: Feeling very bloated and yucky the morning, so I will re-weigh again in tomorrow to make sure its a real gain.

Hello all! Congrats to this week's biggest losers! Just PMed my weight and COW for the week. I'm a bit disappointed with only a .2 loss. I shouldn't be surprised. I had a larger loss last week and I always seem to counter the next week with a small loss or I maintain. Hopefully, next week will be a more significant loss!

Heidi's low point Curried Chicken

Yum - Looking foward to trying this.

I am taking today off from weighing in. It is my birthday and if I gained I would be very unhappy. I know if had lost I would be very happy but why take that chance today. I will weigh in again next week. But I am still in the game.

:bday:party:party:

Happy Birthday!!

Hey W.I.S.H. Gang. I have some good news to share. I lost 4 pounds this week . I did get A chance to walk durring lunch. and after work. I have began to cut back on eating large portions of food at dinner. It looks like i am back on track again for a slimmer summer:thumbsup2

Woo hoo - 4 pounds is awesome!

I am down .4 this week, and thrilled, after an indulgent weekend.
Friday qotd - How often to you weigh yourself, and how does that help or hinder your ability to stay on track?

congrat's on losing even with an indulgent weekend :)

Dow 2.5 this week! YEAH!

YEAH :)

I am stunned. I was really expecting a big gain, and instead I lost 1.2! I could not be more pleased. Now I'm more determined than ever to rededicate myself to reaching my goals.

Hang in there - that was me last week.

I'm only down 1.2 this week, but considering I was away for a couple days and having to eat out, I guess that's not too bad.

Yeah - 1.2 is good!!

I'm down exactly what I predicted and planned for: 1.8 pounds. I'm not as thrilled as I was after last week's weigh in, but I suppose I should be. Good solid loss.

Yeah!! That is what I lost too!

Lost 2.2 lbs this week. But man, I fought for them! I stayed on track every day and the scale didn't budge at all the first few days. That's a hint to my answer to the question of the day!

Yeah - 2.2 is awesome!

Hang in there and work for a perfect week this week.

I had a loss! :cool1::cool1: Very pleased.

Woo hoo!

Hang in there - I had that last week too. It is disappointing, but remember it all adds up :)

I lost 1.8 this week. It's inching downward and that makes me happy!!

I lost 1.8 this week. It's inching downward and that makes me happy!!

GREAT job!! And thanks for the encouragement (in your above post). Care to share your plan? WW? Counting calories?

So I stayed the same this week. I am kind of disappointed, but I know it will catch up eventually. I am not gonna let it get down.

A little update on our clippie. The person who volunteered to do it has been hung up with some real life issues so if anyone would like to give it a try, just PM me. Thanks!
I have absolutely no idea how or I would like to. I'm pretty limited in my computer abilities. That would be great if someone else was able to do it.

I lost 1.5 pounds this week and I am happy with that. That's two weeks in a row for a loss and that is important to me after maintaining for weeks and weeks during the last challenges.

On Tuesday I was down three but part must have been water from working outside and some came back. Or its my body's revenge as I work out this WW system. I'm joining you on the better choices and not depriving myself wagon! I really need this because on Wednesday I was standing in the pantry eating Cheerios out of the box kind of hungry and it was not a pretty thing! :scared1:

!
Congrats on the loss!! How's ww going for you? I can envision you in the pantry, but at least it was cheerios, and not something more harmful like hershey's kisses. I'm really trying not to bring things into the house that I can't control myself with, but some nights, I'm searching the kitchen and pantry just looking for something satisfying. I picked up some baked chips and guacamole today, and some ff ice creams to help with the urges.

I usually only weigh myself one day a week, on Friday mornings. That said, I will occasionally take a sneak peek... usually after an overindulgent weekend or when I think things are going really well. But like mikamah said, if I see a great number, sometimes I use it as an excuse to spurge... and if the number isn't great, I get upset and sometimes my mood can affect my eating. It is such a MENTAL GAME!!! So I really try to stick with once a week. It still keeps me accountable, but I don't get caught up in a daily psychological swing.

It is such a mental game, but we can win it. That's great you usually do once a week. I tried to put the scale away on occassion, but find that I think about it more often than when I weigh once a day.

Congrats on 52 pounds!! That's fabulous.

I am supposed to weigh myself once a week on Wednesday morning, however, I've been jumping on the scale so often that last night I hid it deep inside my closet and vowed to not get back on it until Wednesday morning! I would like to be surprised by my weight loss. I want to work hard to see a difference and if I jump on the scale morning and evening (which is what I've been doing) and notice a drop I won't work as hard.
Good for you for hiding that scale.
Okay, I'm posting from my phone and I accidentally posted twice. I can't figure out how to delete the extra post so I'm modifying it! Please forgive me. This is tough to do from my phone!

Good luck on today's weigh-in everybody!
Those phones aren't easy to use. I went online on my nephew's phone, and it took me so long to type my email address and code in it just wasn't worth it. I'm sure it get easier the longer you do it, but I'll don't have the patience.

Dow 2.5 this week! YEAH!

Thanks for the watermelon hint. I've also heard that asparagus is a natural diuretic, and helps with fluid too.
I have a question--
I pm'd my actual weight this morning--- is that correct//-- or should we pm the actual weight loss for week???
Pm the actual weight to LUvbaloo.
I stayed the same this week for WI but am just thankful that there wasn't a gain. I went a little off plan last night but am back on this morning. I need to get a few things done around the house before heading out to run some errands. Hope to get back home and get some stitching done today.

!!
Good job getting back on plan, and maintaining is highly underrated. This is real life, and maintaining occassionally is a-ok in my book.
I am stunned. I was really expecting a big gain, and instead I lost 1.2! I could not be more pleased. Now I'm more determined than ever to rededicate myself to reaching my goals.
Congrats!! Always nice to see a loss when you're expecting something else.

Well, I was out of town for a couple days, then busy getting ready for a bridal shower I hosted at my house, so I haven't been on the computer for about a week. I'm only down 1.2 this week, but considering I was away for a couple days and having to eat out, I guess that's not too bad.

No "only" about it! Down 1.2 is fabulous and should be celebrated. Congrats!!

I do my ww weighin sat am, and always check so I know what to expect, but think, why not just use them, but I just can't.

I weight myself every a.m. NOT a good idea sometimes. If I have a gain, I tend to just want to throw in the towel. If I lose, it motivates me to stay on track. I wish I wasn't so driven by that darn number, but it's stuck in my head.
Lots of us daily weighers here with you. What great support.

I'm down exactly what I predicted and planned for: 1.8 pounds. I'm not as thrilled as I was after last week's weigh in, but I suppose I should be. Good solid loss.

.
Whoo hoo!! 1.8 is awesome!!

Lost 2.2 lbs this week. But man, I fought for them! I stayed on track every day and the scale didn't budge at all the first few days. That's a hint to my answer to the question of the day!

Awesome!!:thumbsup2 This weight loss thing is such hard work, but so rewarding.

I am up 2.2 lbs because I have been going off plan every evening. In fact, I can't remember a single day I've stuck with my eating plan of 4 meals/400 calories each for 1600 calories. I resolve today will be the day I do!

.
 Sorry you had a gain, but today is a new day. Hang in there. It's tough with little ones, and really tough to stay up late to exercise. I've been getting up early before my son and doing a walk away the pounds video most mornings, and that works well. You don't say how old your kids are, or how many, but when he was littler, I'd do one while he played in the same room with me, and sometimes he'd get up and join me. Take it one day at a time, maybe concentrate on the eating this week, and start exercising next week.
I had a loss! :cool1::cool1: Very pleased.

congrats on your loss!! I want to be you and only use the ww scale!! I can see your point of keeping on track more easily when you don't know where you stand.

I weighed myself this morning, and I'm up 1.8lbs :sad2: Feeling very bloated and yucky the morning, so I will re-weigh again in tomorrow to make sure its a real gain.
 That fluid retention can be a bummer. Hope you are feeling better soon. Drink lots of water to help flush it all away.

I love to celebrate all losses, no matter how small! Whoo hoo .2!!

I lost 1.8 this week. It's inching downward and that makes me happy!!
Awesome Melanie!! You are really doing so great staying on track.

It's so nice to see such an active thread, and lots of pounds lost. Hope you all have a nice, on program weekend. The weather is looking dry here in MA after a few days of rain, so I'm happy.

So I stayed the same this week. I am kind of disappointed, but I know it will catch up eventually. I am not gonna let it get down.
:hug:You are so right, keep doing what you're doing, and you will see a loss. There are so many factors that affect our weight daily.

Wow! Nothing like weigh in and COW reporting day to make a busy thread.

Congratulations to everyone for sticking with things and making progress whether it is the scale, our new good habits or just heading in the right direction! :goodvibes

Congrats on the loss!! How's ww going for you? I can envision you in the pantry, but at least it was cheerios, and not something more harmful like hershey's kisses. Thanks for asking about WW. It's going pretty well now that I am doing some more planning and really making use of my activity and weekly points. I think it really does help you to make better choices when you are going to eat something. That 5 point stuff I was eating didn't take me too far. :rotfl: I obviously have a long way to go but it seems like something I can stick with for the long run -- you know, like the rest of my life! :thumbsup2

Hey everyone...I had the best dinner last night...Lipton chicken! So easy! I originally got the recipe from WW and thought you all might like in.

1 lb frozen chicken breast
1 can 99% ff cream of chicken soup
6 oz ff sour cream
1 packet Lipton Onion soup mix

Put everything in a crockpot and cook on low for 5 hours plus (yes, the chicken should be frozen). Mix if you can (if you want to leave it while you are at work, though, that is fine...I do it all the time.)

Serve over pasta...For WW this works out to about 6 points for 1/4 of what this makes plus however much pasta you choose to put it on! Love it! Hope you all have a great day!

WE CAN DO THIS! WE WILL DO THIS!

Sarah

Thanks for the welcome, you guys. I'm really excited to be a part of the challenge!

I'm definitely going to try to utilize the baby for whatever exercises I can. I do like to lay on my back and slowly "bench press" her! She only weighs a little more than twelve pounds, but after a minute or two you can really feel it in your arms!

I heard that celery, by itself, is basically a zero-calorie snack. Anyone know if this is true? I'd love something to idly gnaw on!

QOTD: I weigh myself once a day. Sometimes I think I should go down to twice a week because I begin to be over-obsessive!

I just have to say your baby is adorable! That is the cutest picture ever! And since you are a new mom, don't stress over losing weight yet -- it's usually nine months up, and nine months down :thumbsup2. A lot will come off naturally (I just put mine back on, but you'll get it off to stay!).
