BL Challange - Red Team - Week 1

WOW! I'm so impressed with everyone's excercise!!! To tell the truth, I didn't have any plans of adding any excercise until Oct, when I can start classes and it starts to cool down here. But this challenge is inspiring me! The humidity was way better last night, if tonight is the same I will take my doggie for a walk, that is a start! I can run up and down the stairs while everyone is at school/work tomorrow. OH, our weekends here are Fri/Sat, so we are a bit off.

I didn't do great food wise yesterday, but I still had my 35 weekly WW points, so I'm still within range. Breakfast was a cut up banana with FF yougurt on top sprinkled with 1/4 cup granola. Lunch was a low fat tortialla with FF refried beans, a little bit of ground beef, lots of lettuce and a Tablespoon shredded sharp low fat cheddar. Afternoon snack was a low fat McVitte (kind of like a graham cracker,) with a little peanut butter. Dinner,
we went to a fancy Italian restaurant. It was a business dinner, a new family is considering moving here, the DH will work for my DH, so we needed them to feel comfortable! I ate 1 1/2 pieces of bread dipped in marinara, grilled fish, veggies, a little white rice. NOT BAD. Then I had a tirmisu. Still have to live I guess! I do my WW weigh in, with my kids, on Tues morning, we will see if it hurt me!

Off to start my day! 8a.m. here!

Ok, I just did the BL cardio max dvd week 1-2 with my DH and I couldn't even stay upright for the whole thing! My thighs are killing me! But my DH and I have made a date to do it again tomorrow...our goal is to stay upright through the entire workout! Small steps....one thing at a time! I wasn't planning on doing a lot of exercise yet either but was inspired by this thread and the fact that my husband has only lost 5 lbs in the time I have lost 23 so I wanted to do something that would help both of us and keep us both accountable. I will be buying a pedometer tomorrow and was going to buy shoes but I found some in my closet that I used for work before I got my allotment that will work great. That way I can save more money for disney! (I am going on the Ladies Only trip in march to DL! Thanks Beth (MommaU4)!) And thanks to all the great people on this thread who are already an inspiration!

I ordered that DVD from Walmart.com and should be getting it today or Monday. It must be pretty tough since you said you couldn't stay upright through the whole thing. I can only imagine what I'll be like LOL! I had the first BL DVD and liked it, especially the low and high intensity workouts. Is this DVD anything like that?

Good Morning!
Just catching up on how well everyone did yesterday!:cool1:

I've just had my Herbal Magic protein bar and a glass of water. I need to get my exercise in first thing this morning. My girls are Irish dancers and are in a parade today and then have a show. So I'm off to walk the dog at least it's not raining.

Hi Lill---

Yes - you are right we are on the same cruise. I did see your name on our cruise thread. I thought your Dis name looked familiar :) . I can't believe our cruise is less than 3 months away now. I am getting excited!!!! :cool1:

Vicki

I have to be so careful around the girls, so many times I've almost let it slip. I just really want this trip to be a surprise for them. The cruise helps motivate me. I think it's going to be hard on the cruise. You might see me running up and down the stairs trying to work off some of the great food I've heard about:scared:

Good Morning Everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself. I am 42 wife, mother and nurse (work full time). I have been married for 16 years and have 2 DS 13 & 9. My weight problem had really started when I finished school and got worse after each child. Working shift work, along with poor eating habits and no really exercise plan has made me very over weight. Last year I started to get serious about getting healthy. Join WW and had lost 30 lb with still about 70 to go. A friend told me about a great free website that is a calorie counter, nutritional and motivational emails and exercise info. I started that because it was easier to log in whenever you had time vs going to meetings(in another city). It worked out great. Lost 45 total. I love sparkpeople.com. Then I sort of got lost with a trip to disney in Nov and then Christmas (love to bake at Christmas). Gained little by little. In June I started battling anxiety and depression. Off work for 2 months. Gained more weight probably from a combination of the depression and the meds. I am feeling much better and I'm back to work. I want to feel confident again. It was amazing how great I felt knowing that I was the slimmest I had been in 10 years. I loved buying new clothes in a new size. Now, after getting rid of all my FAT clothes...I have nothing to wear that feels comfortable. Ready to make a change.

We are going on our first DCL in Nov. I would love to feel better about myself when we go. Hoping to lose 10-15 lb before we go.

Here's my plan:
Log in to sparkpeople everyday, every BITE! Even when I screw up
Drink 2L or more of water a day
1-2 fruit a day
Eat complex Carbs with 3g of fiber or more
1 treat a day (100cal bag of cookies with tea after dinner)
1-2 yogurt a day
4 (at least) veggies a day
1200-1550 calories per day
Eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day
30 min of exercise 5 days a week

So far today I have had tea (green and black pekoe) and toast with peanut butter and honey (measured). I used to have steel cut oatmeal in the morning because its high in fiber and protein but I got tired of it. I may start up with that again but I do enjoy toast and tea.

Hope everyone is having a great morning.:thumbsup2 Looking forward to getting to know everyone. I love hearing what everyone has been doing for exercise since this is my weakest link. I hate exercise but know that diet is only half of the equation.:teacher: I am going to join curves this week. Until then I will be walking or using my gazelle.

Thank you for starting this challenge!!:cheer2:

/
You all are making me feel lazy here:rolleyes1 . I am going to Atlantic City with my mom for 3 days. Just me and my mom, no hubbies or kids :dance3: . So I have to pack today and it is raining here so I can't get out. I will have to try and dust off my treadmill today to keep up with everyone!!!

I just started back up on Jenny Craig so I have stuck to the plan for 2 days now. And getting all my water in. So I just need to be careful this weekend and then Wed I will get busy!!

Good luck Red Team and keep up the good work.

Michelle

Happy Saturday Biggest Losers!

I am so pleased to see everyone here! You can do this.

I believe in you!

:grouphug:

Good Morning Red Team! Um, thanks Richard Simmons! I hope everyone has a healthy day! I did my 20 mile training run this morning and am still sitting here waiting for my legs to recover. Ooh, that hurts. Now it's about trying to be good as the hunger sets in.

I'd love to do a marathon or a half marathon...2010 may be the perfect year for it too...lol We can have our own Dis Red Team twice removed team...lol

I love it! I'm up for planning now for Disney weekend 2010!

Have a great afternoon everyone!!

hey Everyone,

i found an artice that looked interesting. 7 diet do's and don'ts http://health.msn.com/weight-loss/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100214769&GT1=31036

Thanks. Interesting article.

Hi LisaViolet

Yes, we went to DL a lot and we did have AP's. My DD Kellie really misses it, it's one of her favorite things. The first question she asks anyone new she meets is "Have you been to Disneyland?" and her second question is "What's your favorite ride?" She is a walking advertisement for Disney!

Cute. So cute. :lovestruc

Wow, I thought I would wait til the kiddos were down for nap to post and we are already 3 pages in! I guess I better jump on in, huh?

My name is Laura, I'm 33 years old, married for 13 years with three little boys ages 8, 6, and 3. I run an in home childcare/preschool, and I also bake and decorate cakes part time (average 1-2 per week).

I've always thought of myself as overweight, mostly because I am tall (5'9") and large boned. But now I look back at those pictures of myself in high school and college and realize that I really wasn't! Wish I had known it then.

Now I am waayy beyond overweight, and have a huge battle ahead - well over 100 pounds to lose. I look back at where I was at this time last year and realize that, although I have had many ups and downs, at one point getting almost back up to my starting weight, I am actually down almost 25 pounds. So I am trying to tell myself that is a good thing, instead of saying to my self "but I could have done so much better!" I think sometimes I am my own worst enemy. I really need to work on the negative self talk.

I am not following any specific plan, because I love food and just can't deprive myself of anything. However I do try to log everything I eat into FitDay and keep track of my calories.
I had started adding in exercise, going to Curves a few nights per week and walking in the morning. But I currently am dealing with a broken wrist (scaphoid, which is taking forever to heal) and a broken bone in my foot (3rd time in the last 2 years), so things aren't really getting anywhere right now with the exercising.

I'm glad to see several people here that I "know" from past BL challenges and around the boards elsewhere.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi Laura  :lovestruc Been thinking about you. Way to go on your weight loss.

Hi Red Team. My name is Ann Marie and I am 39 for a few more months. I live in Marysville, MI and work casual as an ER nurse. I have two girls that are 9 and 11. I also homeschool my girls and they are both level 6 gymnasts. Keeps us very busy.

I have about 70 lbs to loose. I am going to watch what I eat and work out more. My other biggest problem is that I am addicted to Diet Coke. I am sitting here gaging down water. I'll have to go to the store and pick up a few lemons to help. We have a membership to the YMCA and I really need to start going again.

Count me in as a DVC and DCL lover. No cruises planned but we are going to Disney in Dec. I can't wait.

Off to check out the challenge and to send my weight.

Hi Ann Marie,

Good to meet you. I'm loving 41. 40 is soon, eh? There are a lot of us around that age.

Best of luck,

Lisa

Glad I could make you smile :cool1:

Made me laugh too. :lmao: Hard. I hate the scale because it doesn't always make sense.

Hey Red Team! My name is Lisa and I'm 43 years old. I've been married to my husband, Gary, for 14 year on 10/8, have 2 sons (Zac and Noah, soon to be 13 & 11). I live in Northeast Ct.
I'm so excited to be joining this challenge, have never done one before and definitely need the motivation. I need to lose a little over 100 lbs, currently 258. I started watching what I was eating last week and have lost 4 so far. I like to walk but just never seem to find the time.
My husband and I are going to Vegas in March and next December we are taking my parents to Disney. I also want to do the Disney 1/2 marathon in 2010. I plan on focusing losing weight and getting fit and then next fall I will do the Marathoning for Mortals 1/2 marathon training program.
I look forward to getting to know you all and getting and receiving support. I've been a long time lurker but never really got involved. That's changed now:yay:

Wow Lisa. Fantastic goal. Like I said earlier. I'm always in awe of runners.

Good evening Red Team!

Wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself. My name is Jennie, I live in a small town in Northern Virginia. I'm 34, married to my DH for 11 years. We have a eight year old son, and twin daughters that are four years old. I'm also a SAHM - but I'm hardly ever home, LOL. I'm 5'10, and while I'm thinking I'll probably lose about 40 pounds, my main goals are to eat better and move more. I'm loosely following Weight Watchers - but not exactly, because I disagree with how they figure out some of the points values on food. I'd rather eat a 2 pt veggie than a 0 pt popsicle - I think my body would get more out of the veggie, know what I mean?

My weight has never been an issue per say, but my crappy eating habits sure have been. This past year has been very hard for my family - my grandparents died in May, and my father was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in June. I'm tired of waiting until xxx day to get healthy - my time is NOW.

For exercise, I have a Wii Fit, and I like to work out with the Firm DVD's. I'm hoping to run/walk in a Disney marathon one day - but I'm not sure how to get information on those? Link please, anyone? I know that there are groups getting ready for a ToT run, and I've heard about the Princess one next year, but I don't think I'll be ready for those.

So, very excited about being part of the team, and being accountable to others! Everyone have a great night!

Hi Jenny - another potential marathoner. Look on the WISHboards on the top part Jenny. The runners have their own threads up there. They will be able to tell you all.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your grandparents and your father's diagnosis. Difficult times. I'm sorry.

I have to share my victory for day one! You guys have already inspired me! It was just me and DD for dinner so we headed to a little diner close to home. I always get food covered with gravy when we go there...including gravy on the fries. Tonight I thought about this challenge, and reporting to this group, and it gave me the kick I need. I ordered a grilled chicken breast with baked potato, carrots, and a salad. So far so good, day one!
For lunch I ate half of a chicken caesar salad (split with a friend) and a slice of cheese pizza. Could be better, could be worse.
For breakfast I had a bowl of cinnamon Life cereal.
That's what I've eaten today. No snacks. Oh, wait, someone gave me a bite sized peppermint patty at work today and I ate it. It really does help make you think twice to be accountable!

Exercise today, I did 4 miles on the treadmill. I'm planning to go downstairs and use the wii fit for 30 minutes, but it sounds like DH and DD might be on, in which case I'll just head to bed. I've got a big training run planned for tomorrow morning!

LisaViolet ~ I live in the Burlington area, so you come right by me when you come through!!

Well, off to check on the status of the wii...it's either exercise or bed...drumroll please...

Lucky you Tracy. Burlington is lovely. Nice city.

And Vermont is heavenly. And this is from a city girl. :lmao: ;)

Hey There! This is my first time being active in a forum on the dis boards, I am pretty shy in real life and on the internet. I am trying to break out of my shell :)

My name is Ingrid I'm 35 and I live on an island in Washington State with my husband Ralph and my kiddos who are 13 & 10. I work at home doing insurance billing and my office is currently in the kitchen. We are remodeling our house which has led to diminished space and my treadmill being in the living room which is a less than ideal place to work out if anyone is at home.

We just got off of the Eastbound Panama Canal cruise a few weeks ago and had an amazing time! I however put on 10 pounds on the cruise. I am a super yo-yo dieter and am aiming to lose the same 30 pounds for the third time. However I would be happy losing just 19 either way my goal this time is keep it off! We are going to Hawaii in Feb/March for our 15th anniversary and I want to feel better about my body then I did on the cruise.

So my plan is to 5x a week do the following....45 minutes on the treadmill, 20 minute hike with my dogs in the woods, and 25 minute Gilad workout with weights. I usually hike with the dogs and swim with the kids on the weekends. I really want to get my kids more active as well. I eat very well and my major downfall is beer uhm beer. I am taking two weeks off from my favorite beverage as a kick start to my weight loss. Thanks for having me and I look forward to supporting each one of you and getting to know you!!!!

~Ingrid

Hi Ingrid,

So envious about the cruise. I would love to go on that one day. Nice. And beer is nice. :rotfl: ;)

Hi everyone, I am a new member who has just been added to the RED team.

My name is Krista and I am 39. My DH and I have 3 kids, DD13, DD8 and DS6. My weight problem began after I had my first DD, who is now 13.

I was doing pretty well this summer, losing around 20 lbs. We then went on the EB Repo cruise and I gained 6 lbs back. So, I have 29 lbs to go until my goal weight. I am not following any specific plan, just concentrating on portion control and exercising. I walk a minimum of 30 minutes per day, but usually try for an hour. We have a WiiFit, treadmill and recumbent exercise bike so I have those options if I don't walk.

I have a weakness for Chipotle burrito's and chocolate.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all my fellow losers!! :) Thanks to Christa and CharityLynn for leading us!

Krista

Hi Krista,

Another almost forty!!!!!! We're all over the place. I like your plan - I've been successful not following any plan - just smaller portions in general.

AAAh Burritos. A woman after my own heart. :lmao:

Sorry to post so late!! My name is Rhonda and I live in a little itty bitty town in central Illinois. About 4 hours south of Chicago. I am 37 years old and have 3 children. DD-10 and DS-6 and DD-4. I would like to lose about forty pounds. I joined WW after DD was born and lost 75 pounds. Over the last year, I have managed to slowly but surely gain back those 40 pounds. I am so disgusted with myself because I knew what to do--I just didn't do it. A friend of mine got me started on the DIS boards and she talked me into signing up. We are not on the same team though, that is ok....we are both so competitve that that is how we made it through college. I teach 7th grade Reading, English and Social Studies and I have been trying to walk every day during my free period. We have started a BL at school and our weigh in there is Mon. So I am excited to be weighing on Fri and Mon because that will help to keep me accountable through the weekend. You all inspired me today to pass up the yummy Friday cake in the teacher's lounge this morning and pass on the breadsticks when we ate out for dinner!

Hi Rhonda,

Those teacher's lounges can be a real foodfest, eh? :rotfl: Good food though. Yum. I like the weigh in day as well.

Hi neonurse - did I miss your name? Probably. I should scan again. Good to meet you. So are NICU? That would be a good guess, eh? ;)

My niece was in NICU for months. She was just over a pound. But thriving now. Five years old. Must be very emotional when so many don't make it. I guess I should be waiting to see if that's what you do before I ramble.

Hello Red Team!! I hope everyone's weekend is off to a good start. I brought some yummy snacks, help yourself!! ;)

FruitPlate.jpg

Have a GREAT and healthy day everyone!!

Lisa,
Can you tell me how you do that, quoting multiple different people? I can't seem to make it work for more than one at a time!:)

Hey TEAM. It's amazing how inspiring being part of this Team is. This morning I made the boys pancakes and normally would have just eaten them, instead I had egg beaters and toast. For lunch I'm having tuna sandwich w/ cucumbers on the side. Weekends are usually hard for me because I'm home w/ the kids and eat whatever, but I feel So Strong!
I have a b-day party later to go to so I'll need to make good choices and hopefully get in a walk.
LisaViolet-I'm not sure I'll ever be a runner. I plan to start the walk-run program when I start training but maybe graduate to the run-walk. All I know is I want to finish the 1/2 whether it's walking or running. It will be quite the accomplishment as I only walking about 30 minutes 3-4 days a week and it's at sloth pace:cool1:
Hope everyone has a great day. Lisa

YUM YUM THanks for the fruit Beth! I'm not doing great so far today but reading this is motivating me.

Breakfast I had a bowl of Lucky Charms with skim milk, Lunch was a baked Potatoe, Yum! Not sure what i'll do for dinner probably a Smart Ones dinner with something...lol

ALmost forgot our fun clippie of the day. Richard Simmons inspired me with this one! :lmao:

Charity, sorry, I forgot to tell you my name. I'm Colleen. Yes I work in NICU. I love my job.

Lisa,
Can you tell me how you do that, quoting multiple different people? I can't seem to make it work for more than one at a time!:)
I'm not Lisa, but I might be able to help.

In each post there is the Quote button that you'd usually use. Next to that is a middle button with a plus sign and some quote marks in it. Click on that. It should light up a red color.

That means you have selected that post to quote. You can then proceed to select as many posts as you'd like. Once you've chosen them all, at the bottom of all the posts on the left is the Post Reply button.
Click on it and all the posts you've chosen will show up and are ready to be replied to.

Hope that helps!

Good for you!!! I love breakfast foods and I have four kids who like a big breakfast so I know how hard it is not to indulge in the pancakes, or muffins, or whatever. You should feel very proud of yourself. And you are strong!! Stronger then those pancakes that's for sure!! :thumbsup2

Good luck at the birthday party. Think about everything before you eat it and ask yourself, "Is this really worth it?" You can do it.
