BL Challange - Red Team - Week 1

Hi I am Laura and while not the oldest (hehe sorry Mic) I am close at 44 (I will be 45 next month sigh)

I have 3 children 9,7,and 5. I am currently a SAHM.
The bulk of my wieght gain is from my stopping smoking. I put on like 50lbs in 172 days :sad2:

But now I am siking myself up to stop shoving food in my mouth and get this under control. I mean if I can stop smoking, what's getting off my butt and moving? I am not going to do any "plan" I know when I am pigging out, it's not rocket science at this point, maybe when I get closer to goal, but for now, just stop the over eatting from the not smoking and start moving is all I need to shed the pounds.

Heh

My long term goal is to be healthy and be able to help my kids with their kids (I am an old mom, so I have to really kick it in gear)

I did one 5 K in May (3 months after I stopped smoking) and finished in 1:00:10  So there is no where to go but up!! I enjoyed doing it, and I think that is the direction I want to go... Although I always joke and say, you never see a happy jogger, I hope in the coming months that will be me, except I will be happy and thankful to be working towards a longer healther life.

And is there a way to get an Avatar Red Team icon?? I can't seem to fit it in my siggy and would like to represent :thumbsup2

And is there a way to get an Avatar Red Team icon?? I can't seem to fit it in my siggy and would like to represent :thumbsup2

I will ask about this. For now maybe you can just type in BL Challange - Red Team? Not sure how much room you have left in your signature.

Hello fellow Red team members!!!!!!!:wave2:

My name is Vicki and have been married for 15 years and also am a SAHM with 4 children. They are 10, 5, 4 and 13 months old. I am 37 and live in SW Wisconsin out in the country.

I started gaining weight after I got married and got an office type job, but the real weight gain came after I had children. I just had my little boy in July 2007 and have lost about 20 lbs since I have had him, but I am still about 20 -25 lbs overweight. I have lost about 4 - 5 lbs since March, but can't seem to get past 155 lbs. I have hypothyroid too since my oldest was born--but seem to have it undercontrol for the most part.

I try to cut back on my portion sizes and that seems to have helped. I will do this for a while and find myself slipping back to my old ways to eating whatever I want...I love food:) I did see a dietician once who put me on a diabetic type diet and it really did help, so that is probably how I will go about it this time, as well as exercising more. I enjoy walking---and try to get outside as much as possible. We have a treadmill here, but I don't enjoy walking on that as much as I do walking outside and it can get cold here in Wisconsin during the winter, so that can be hard.

We have a Disney cruise planned for early Dec. , so I want to try and lose some weight for our trip. :yay:

I look forward to getting to know all of you and offering support!!!!!!!!

Thanks again to Christa and CharityLynn for being our captains:thumbsup2

Vicki

GO RED TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!

My name is Lisa. I wonder if you can guess my middle name!:lmao: I live in Toronto - downtown in a 440 sq. foot condo. I double my space in a one bedroom DVC on vacation! :lovestruc Heck, I might even equal my space in a regular WDW room.

I'm 41 and LOVING my forties. I'm a big girl naturally, tall and huge bones, so I'm sure I've always been overweight but not always fat. And that's probably why I'm loving my forties. I've realized that the scale will never represent what I really look like. And now I love my body and accept it. It's lovely to be in this place.

However, I do want to lose some more weight. I'm not sure how much more. I'll know when I see it. My issue is being okay with looking better. Weird, but true. I've probably lost, I don't know, at least 60 pounds over the last seven years. ( I don't know b/c I wasn't a scale person until the BL) Talk about taking it slow, eh? :lmao: ;) . I lost 25 of those pounds on the BL in January. And I pretty well maintained it all. So pleased about that.

I am a huge "soapboxer" over not doing one thing that I can't keep doing for every day of the rest of my life. Not one. So I eat everything. I have no interest on going on a trip and coming home with a lot of extra weight because I'm so strict every single day but not on a trip. And my body goes what the @#@#! I believe if I can't see myself doing it in ten years - I'm not doing it now. And it's worked. Just slowly.

I love BL but hate the scale. Because it doesn't always show what's really up. So I'll probably annoy the crap out of you all with that. Complaining about it.

Okay enough of my rambling. All the best to everyone:grouphug:,

Lisa

Hello Red Team! I am a Vicky, too, and I am a 27 year old graduate student working towards my PhD in biomedical sciences. I am very excited to be participating in my first biggest loser challenge!

I did weight watchers three years ago for about 9 months and was able to lose 40lbs, but since then I've gained it all back and another 30  I struggle with PCOS and often use that as an excuse for not trying to get healthier, but its time to stop hiding behind excuses and start taking some of this weight off!

I have rejoined weight watchers, and purchased a Wii Fit (which I love! :yay: ), and am hoping to be able to lost about 80lbs and become more fit and healthy along the way!

And please everyone -

Do not forget about all your success. Sometimes we forget. Maintaining is success. Even gaining some and getting back to the work in progress is success. Geez, being here is success.

GO RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay I will start. My name is Christa (duh!)
I started out at 237 (Nov ’06) and got down to 149 at the beginning of the year. I am refocused and determined to get the rest of this weight off by our trip to Disneyland/SoCal for Christmas & New Years.

Yeah! Hi Christa! I was so happy to see you as our captain. Now that's success.

Since I am also on the west coast I'm up still. My name is Michelle & I am 37 years old. I Over the last 3 years I have lost about 35 pounds.....very, very slow obviously. I am trying to step it up and get myself healthy. My dad passed away last year due to complications from diabetes, high blood pressure & heart issues.

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I beat you on "slow" but who cares, eh? It's gone regardless.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I too lost someone special to diabetes. It's awful. I'm sorry.

Lisa

This is so exciting! It's my first time participating in one of these challenges and I am thrilled to be a part of it.

I guess I will follow Christa and Michelle's lead and introduce myself.

My name is Beth. I am a 36 year old SAHM. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have four kids, ages 13, 11, 8, and 8. We live in Las Vegas as you can see from my location, but I grew up in SoCal.

I started losing weight the second week of May (this year) and so far have lost 35 pounds.
My goal right now is just to get out of the 200's.

Same goal for me Beth. My brother is in Rancho Cucamonga (makes me laugh every single time I type it! :lmao: )and has lived in Ontario (:lmao: both in Canada and California). Did you grow up near there?

Congratulations on your weight loss. :thumbsup2

My name is Bobbi.

I think I've finally accepted that I didn't gain it overnight so I'm not going to lose it overnight. I've lost about 17 pounds in the last 10-12 weeks. Not great, but I'll take it!

Hi Bobbi,

Of course I love your philosophy.

Ummm, "not great". What?!??!? Yeah, not great Bobbi. Fanatastic is the word. Seventeen pounds is fantastic!

Hi everyone! My name is Angie and I have a dd who is 4 years old. I joined WW about 2 years ago and lost 83 lbs. and have since gained most of it back and am just sick about it. I am so excited to be included with this and have some support and friends to talk to who understand where I'm coming from:thumbsup2

You know that's a great place to be Angie. Sick of it. It's a great place to start from. I feel that too. No more up and down. I simply won't do it anymore.

Hello Everyone,

Day one and we are heading out to Disney's Vero Beach for the weekend. This will be our first visit and are excited about going. I am looking forward to some encouragement along this path and look forward to geting to know all of you. I have quite bit of weight to lose and as one of you said it wasn't gained overnight, so it will not be lost overnight. Although that would be nice. LOL

Have a good weekend!:)

Oh gosh,

A girl after my own heart. Vero Beach!!!! Going for the first time in March. Last one to visit.

DVC was a dream for me guys. For over ten years I sat and wished and dreamed and hoped. Used to sit at the BW and rock in the chairs and imagine. But I didn't want to finance. And one year it came true. Because of some sad circumstances.

But proves that we all have to dream and focus on our dreams. They do come true.

my name is Molli, i'm 36 and live in central Ohio, about 20 mins from the belt around Columbus.

Hi Donna!

I love the name Zachary. I would love to be a SAHM. But I suppose I would actually have to have children first. :lmao: :rotfl: ;)

I shouldn't laugh. I do want them so badly but feel like I'm running out of time.

Congratulations on your weight loss.

Katy

Ah envious Katy. I would love to be skilled in the kitchen! There's a dream of mine.

I so look forward to hearing about your life in the Middle East. Fascinating to me.

Hello, my name is Rosemary and I am 25 years old from NJ.

I want to lose 60-70 pounds which will take me to the healthy weight for my 5’0” height. I am so excited to be involved in this challenge as I know that if I give up I will let me team down and this will keep me going.

I guess that’s all for now. GO RED TEAM!!!!!

Hi Rosemary!

You'll get that here. The team aspect is fantastic. Hey, are you the youngest?

Busy girl.

Good morning all! GO RED TEAM! My name is Sarah. I work full time plus a bunch as an office technician up in Washington
We can do this! I challenge everyone who reads this to drink a cup of water! Great job everyone! Lets kick this into high gear and get losing!

Sarah

Hi Sarah!

Good challenge. I always know when I haven't drank a lot of water. They've come out with studies to say it doesn't matter too much. But heck I disagree. I can feel the difference. Not to mention the skin.

Do you go up to Vancouver, BC often? I love Vancouver. I'm sure Bellingham is beautiful too. The whole area.

Hey everyone! I am so happy to be given the opportunity to help you all with this goal. As co-captain, I promise to believe in you and motivate you to the best of my ability and only ask in return for your support.:lovestruc

I am a 28 year old mother and wife. My name is Charity (Surprised?) I live in Battle Creek, Michigan. I did start a journal over here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1949812 I have pictures over there too.;)
How about a quote: "Do not wait for ideal circumstances, nor the best opportunities; they will never come."-- Janet E. Stuart

Hi Charity,

Good to see you again. Love the quote. I used to be a person who always waited for best times. Great quote.

Thanks for all your work.

Oh, I just got back into Taebo (Amped series) and have been loving it.

Hello Red Team! I am Michelle, I am 46 ( NOW I'm the oldest!! ). I have been married for almost 26 years and have a dd 20 years old and ds 18 years old. I live in central New York and am not a winter person so I will need to find indoor activities.
Good luck everyone.

Not the oldest. The most wise. ;)

Where in NY state, Michelle?

Good morning fellow Losers!!

My name is Veronica, I am currently 37 (will be 38 soon), married and have one daughter Tess age 8. I am a dental hygienist and work 4-5 days per week. Like many others, I lost a lot of weight (50 lbs last year) then gained some back (15 lbs). I have managed to get 6 lbs off since the beginning of this month (YEAH ME!!:cheer2: ) but still have about 58 lbs to go to get to goal. I am using FitDay to track my calories and am an avid runner. Did my longest run ever this morning, 7 miles!! I did not think it possible, but I did it! Just goes to show what a little bit of motivation can do for you.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and sharing in your triumphs and helping you when things aren't going as planned.

Off to the grocery store to stock up on salad and chicken!!

Hey Veronica!!

Congratulations on your weight loss. Fantastic.

Can you do my shopping as well why you're there? :rotfl: ;)

Hi I am Laura and while not the oldest (hehe sorry Mic) I am close at 44 (I will be 45 next month sigh)

Congratulations on quitting smoking.

Hi Vicki,

I love food too. And that's why I think it's important to eat everything. Food is a wonderful thing. I hate when it's demonized.

I felt myself slipping back this summer and I ran to WISH and found a wonderful group to be with. I love the BL because I find myself eating more consciously and enjoying every bite instead of wondering if I tasted what I just ate!!!!:lmao: :rotfl: ;)

Hey Vicky,

I have two friends with PCOS. Go easy on yourself. It is difficult to deal with. I've seen them struggle through many issues. I'm sorry.

Love to hear more about Wii Fit.

Please forgive me if I went heavy on the editing and missed a team member. I didn't mean to, honest!!!:rotfl: ;) Actually, let me know if I missed you. I want to say "hi"!

Good to meet you all,

Lisa

Hey Vickey I have PCOS too. Did they say you were pre-diabetic because of it? They told me that I am on the borderline and gave me metformin. The doctor also told me that the medication will help me lose some weight (not alot but hey any little bit counts).

Speaking of any little bit i read that forcing yourself to sit up straight burns a few extra calories. Couldn't hurt to try it?

Hi Vicki !

I think we are on the same cruise! I'm sure I saw your name on our cruise thread.

Lill

Hi Red Team
My name is Evette, I'm almost 52 (next month) and I live in Wheeling, IL but I used to live within walking distance of Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. We sure do miss it! I've been married to DH Lance for 27 years and we have 4 children. DS Wes (26), DS Christopher (24), DS Scott (23) who all still live in Anaheim. Our DD Kellie (22) has Down Syndrome and lives here with us. I currently stay at home with Kellie but I have worked outside our home in the past.

I have a lot of weight to get rid of...I've lost weight and gained it back several times but never got near my goal weight. I'm hoping this will be the motivation I need to succeed this time!

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you on the RED TEAM and I know we can support each other through our journey.

Wow, this team is hopping! I'd better jump in here and introduce myself!!:goodvibes
My name is Tracy, I'm 35 years old (for another few weeks), and I live in Vermont with DH, Steve, and my 2 daughters, Ashley(17) and Emmalyn(6). I work for the federal government, and spend all day long sitting at a desk. Yikes!:scared1:
About 4 years ago, I found myself with a 1 year old daughter and a whole lot of baby weight. I decided I didn't have an excuse after more than a year, and DH and I went on Atkins very strictly, through which I lost about 30 pounds. However, I can't do Atkins forever. I like food. So I needed to find something else. I started running and I've been doing that since. I'm currently training for the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco on October 19th. But my great frustration (with myself) lately is that even though I'm exercising my weight has been creeping back up. I've stopped being careful about what I eat. I talk myself into eating whatever I want, justifying it by saying that I'm exercising so it can't hurt. It does!
I've tried being better about the food, and I'm trying to find the way of eating that I can stick with. I can't deprive myself of everything all the time because I end up splurging and going overboard. I tried eating every 2 hours, small meals, but I felt like I was eating all the time and ending up eating more! Like many of you, I find that I am definitely an emotional eater and that I eat when I'm bored. Not REALLY BORED, but it's more like a nervous habit to have something to snack on while I'm working on something. So my goal now is to stop all the snacking. 3 meals a day and maybe a small snack in the afternoon or small dessert after dinner (but no evening eating!).
I'm looking forward to being a part of this team ~ I've never done a challenge like this before and I think it will be a big help to have small goals to focus on one week at a time. My goal is to get down to where I want to be before we go on our cruise in February!

GO TEAM RED!!!:cheer2:

Hi LisaViolet--

Nice to meet you too. I see you are from Toronto. My husband and I were there visiting before kids and really liked the city. I am looking forward to hopefully losing some of my baby weight here... It sounds like you had some success on the last BL. That is great....hopefully I will be as lucky !!:goodvibes. Well here's hoping for lots of "losers" for the RED team. :thumbsup2

Vicki
