BL Challange - Red Team - Week 1

Hi! I am Melisa, I am 39 years old. I am an Insurance Agent for State Farm Insurance and have been married for 12 years. My DH is in the Army currently serving in Iraq since June. I do not have children, my babies are my 2 golden retrievers Barney & Thelma Lou.:)
My starting weight when DH left in June was 199. I am 5'4". I started doing weight watchers and as of last Friday my weight was 175. My exercise is walking my dogs every other night and on the night I don't walk them I do Walk away the pounds dvd. I do know I need to step up my exercise and am working on it.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated and I am excited to join you all and lose more weight.
Oh, my goal weight is 130.

I bought a treadmill!! I also looked up the Wii Fit last night after reading it on here. I had never heard of it. Now I want one! Does anyone have any suggestions for the best walking shoe?

:yay: i just got a TM for home too and i've already got my money's worth. it's so great to have one here now i just gotta get on it in the evenings some. as far as shoes -- ideally it's best to go to a running store and get "fitted" by their clerks who hopefully know a great deal on the difference in brands, styles, etc. Once you have been properly fitted you can order more pairs on line, keeping in mind shoe models do change. i'm frugal so that's what i end up doing every couple years is go get re-fitted. i have a wide foot so i wear New Balance, and have stocked up on comfy models on New Balance Web Express.com. just got a pair on onlineshoes.com too. both sites have great return policies

and this is important too! make sure you buy some GOOD socks. some kind of 'wicking' or 'dry-fit' that keeps the moisture away from your skin which leads to blisters :scared:

and i cheer :yay: :cheer2: for John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals training program. that was mentioned earlier this week. i have followed it for every 1/2 i've done and been very happy with how i felt pre-race, race day and post-race. maybe your library has a copy to look at?

i did not do well on food yesterday  we have 2 parties and i just was not strong. and today i feel bloated and yucky and disappointed. :sad2: :guilty: i think that you all have inspired me to get in some kind of exercise though later today. maybe a long bike ride, it's HOT here. much hotter and muggier then it should be in Ohio in september!

stay strong teammies!!

I didn't exercise at all yesterday because I worked for a long time and just didn't have the energy.

Today's breakfast was a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios with Skim Milk Lunch a Smart Ones Santa Fe rice and beans (YUM YUM)

Not sure what I'm doing for dinner, the husband is having frineds over to watch a wrestling PPV so he's ordering pizza. Think I might get a sub from subway.

I have done a bit of exercise today. I worked with my 3lb hand weights did at minimum 30 reps for each arm in 3 different arm exercises. I also did 30 squats. I'll keep adding to these numbers through the day. I also cleaned house which was really bad because myself and a child were sick most of last week. I was sweating so bad I took my shirt off and put on a sports bra LOL. SO I know I burned some calories there.

Here's today's clippie!

I bought a treadmill!! I also looked up the Wii Fit last night after reading it on here. I had never heard of it. Now I want one!
I LOVE having my treadmill. I bought it in June right when I started having to cut out exercise due to injury. So I didn't get to use it much. But now that I am back to exercise I love being able to hop on the treadmill while I watch TV.

Drinking Water Really Helps Keep HUNGER away

Many times what we THINK is hunger is really thrist. So keep hydrated. if you really do not like plain water, dress it up. Crystal Light, herbal tea and even milk and juice count. Just be carefull of calories by drinking sugary, calorie laden drinks. And also remember caffine is a diaretic and removes water from the body. So if you drink caffine you need to drink MORE water to replenish.

Hi all! I'm Krista
:welcome: WOW we have 2 Krista's & me Christa.

Hi! I am Melisa ... I do Walk away the pounds dvd.
:welcome: Melisa! I too do WATP/In Home Walking. What workout's do you have/like? I like the newer workout's. Walkslim, 3 miles weight loss walk, 3 mile walk away your waistline and I just got (via netflix) a mile in the morning, which consists of 5 one mile walks that you can mix & match, do 1 mile or all 5.

Hi,
I have the one that has 1,2,&3 miles on it. I need to look for the others that you are mentioning because I know every word she says by heart now!:rotfl: I am a netflix member too, maybe I will start there.
Thanks for the tip!:goodvibes

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a good weekend so far. :cheer2:

For lunch today I had one of those Asian Grilled Chicken salads from McDonalds. I like those and it's a nice alternative to the Big Mac and fries if you need to grab a meal out. :thumbsup2

Good evening! I need to report, to keep myself in check...
Breakfast today was a fried egg between 2 pieces of wheat bread. Breakfast was late so lunch turned into more of a snack...a few strawberries with cream cheese fruit dip, and 3 sugar-free chocolate covered grahams. Dinner was cheese tortellini with meatballs and garlic bread (I ate 2 pieces:rolleyes1). I'm going to have a Lindt chocolate egg, just one, as dessert, to satisfy my sweet tooth.

I did run/walk 6 miles today. Went for a run with a friend and she was having some trouble with her athsma (it was muggy out) so we ended up walking a lot of it. Made it a good recovery run after my long run yesterday. I am planning on 30 minutes on the wii after the little one goes to bed.

I hope everyone had a healthy day!!

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a good weekend! I have been struggling with the urge to snack all weekend, but I've kept my water bottle close by and have for the most part been successfully avoiding munching! :cool1:

I went out today and bought Wii's new "Active Life: Outdoor Adventure". I have only had about 20 minutes to try it so far, but its definitely a good work-out! Lots of games that include running and jumping and it even appears to have pre-designed exercised plans and a place to track your activity points. I think it will definitely be good for adding some variety to my Wii Fit exercises! :yay:

For those of you who use Wii Fit- do you find it gives a good workout? We have a Wii, but not the Wii Fit yet and I am wondering how much you feel you get out of it? I am thinking that I could buy my bosu ball and more weights for the same money. I do like the tennis and boxing on the Wii, and play those when DH isn't watching something on TV!

Opinions appreciated. Christmas is coming, as is my birthday, so its not like I couldn't ask for it for either of those.

Hello Red team. It's great to meet you all. I got home from NH a few hours ago, and spent much of them reading this thread. I did ok overall this weekend. Friday night I had pizza and a few glasses of wine, guacamole and a few chips, mostly used vegies to dip. Sat was the day we went to storyland, and I ate a healthy breakfast and lunch, but did have a shaved ice, popcorn, and ice cream through the day. Sat night ate out at a restaurant and had a salad without cheese, with grilled chicken, but went back to the condo and had more wine and crackers. Today, I'm back on track and drinking plenty of water. For me, compared to how I can eat, being aware and always thinking about it before I eat definitely makes a difference. I did take a short walk sat, and 30 min walk this morning. I'll also get up and do a watp video tomorrow too. I can't not have my splurges, and I will stick with core foods the next 2 days, and hope to see a loss wed when I weigh in.

I've probably lost, I don't know, at least 60 pounds over the last seven years. ( I don't know b/c I wasn't a scale person until the BL) Talk about taking it slow, eh? :lmao: ;) . I lost 25 of those pounds on the BL in January. And I pretty well maintained it all. So pleased about that.

Lisa
Hi Lisa!! It's great to see you again, I always loved your posts on the last bl challenge. You are so good to respond to so many of us. Congrats on keeping the weight off. SLow and steady is definitely the way to go. Having been a long time, repeat weight watcher, I know for me, the faster it comes off, the faster it will all come back on plus. I'm hoping to stop the yo-yoing this time for good, and lose it all, no matter how long it takes.

Hello Red Team!! I hope everyone's weekend is off to a good start. I brought some yummy snacks, help yourself!! ;)

Have a GREAT and healthy day everyone!!
That fruit looks sooo good, and it always tastes better when you don't have to prepare it yourself.

I'm not Lisa, but I might be able to help.

In each post there is the Quote button that you'd usually use. Next to that is a middle button with a plus sign and some quote marks in it. Click on that. It should light up a red color.

That means you have selected that post to quote. You can then proceed to select as many posts as you'd like. Once you've chosen them all, at the bottom of all the posts on the left is the Post Reply button.
Click on it and all the posts you've chosen will show up and are ready to be replied to.
Thanks for this. I figured I'd give it a try, I've always been envying you all that know how to multiquote.

Hope you all had a great weekend.

I'm one of those who always thinks everything tastes better when I didn't have to prepare it. :rotfl:
I hate to cook.
Like to bake though! Ummm yeah, which is how I ended up here on this thread. :rolleyes1

Oh, and look at you, multi-quoting like a pro! :thumbsup2

I will have to check that out. I got into the Wii fit when it first came out and was pretty proud of myself. Then summer came and all the summer activities. I'm going to break it out again this week and try to tone up. I really felt good about myself after using and working my way up in the exercise repetitions. I always enjoyed the step exercises and could do that over and over.

I feel I'm doing good and changing my diet habits. I have been at it for 2 weeks now and have lost about 8 lbs. Weekends are the hardest as we are out and about and end up eating out. I try to make healthy choices, but I never can pass on the salsa, chips and guacomole! I need to stop that and exercise more.

We'll see how the week goes. I'll do the Wii fit at least 3 times this week.

Linda

6 year old DD was looking over my shoulder when I wrote that, and now I'm in trouble...she said "Hey, I don't want to hear you playing the wii after I go to bed! I'll be jealous!" Oops, caught red-handed!

Then she noticed the picture of the kittens in the pumpkin that is part of mommau4's siggy, and that got a big reaction, and now between that and knowing I'm writing about her she's overly interested in what's going on on this board...

I'm very interested in hearing more about this game! Is it new, or just under the radar? I haven't heard of it, and it sound right up my alley!

I highly recommend the wii fit. I think I personally get a lot of benefit out of the yoga and strength training sections. It walks you through the exercises step by step, and really challenges you to keep up. And it has lots of little extras (like the piggy bank to keep track of your minutes and charts that show you your progress every day) to keep it interesting.

I ordered that DVD from Walmart.com and should be getting it today or Monday. It must be pretty tough since you said you couldn't stay upright through the whole thing. I can only imagine what I'll be like LOL! I had the first BL DVD and liked it, especially the low and high intensity workouts. Is this DVD anything like that?

I have never done the other BL DVD so I can't compare it. All I know is I hurt! I did the DVD Saturday as well and did remain upright, so that was good!

Charity, sorry, I forgot to tell you my name. I'm Colleen. Yes I work in NICU. I love my job.

Thank you for doing what you do. My cousin and his wife had a baby girl yesterday at only 30 weeks gestation. She is 2lbs 11ozs and gave a lusty cry at birth I was told, but she is so tiny. My cousin was on bedrest in the hospital for 2 weeks prior so they were able to give her drugs to help mature the baby's lungs. Looks like it worked, thank goodness! So thank you so much for helping those little babies!

Good Morning Red Team! I'm so proud of all of you already! I can't wait for "weigh day!!!"

I did well food wise yesterday. Breakfast I already posted...eggwhite scrambled with lots of veggies and toast

Lunch I mixed the rest of the fatoosh salad with a whole bunch of lettuec, tore in two pieces of beef pastrami (1g fat) and used FF cesear dressing. Snack was a McVittie with peanut butter again.

Dinner was this beef and mushroom thing I make, over whole grain pasta, only 1/2c pasta. Also made this carrot, squash, tomatoe concoction that I love and fills me up, and we had nectarines.

I've had breakfast already and I'm bursting! Oatmeal. Boy it stays with me and I'm going to a "coffee" this morning and I know there will be lots to tempt me! I will try to eat something healthy there and call it lunch!

Still no excercise for Katy :sad2: I do think its starting to cool off, so there is hope. Today it was 90 F taking the boys to school, instead of the usual 97!

Keep up the good work!
Katy

That's great you were able to do the DVD again and do a little better with it than the time before. Good for you! :thumbsup2 I should get mine today so I'm going to try it out as soon as it shows up. I'll post back about how it goes.

Guess I should post about my weekend. I was nervous that I might blow it with food since weekends are the hardest, I'm sure for all of us. But, I did really well, stayed within my WW points the entire time and didn't overeat at all. The only thing I'm kind of bummed about is that I've really not exercised at all since Friday. I do ok thru the week but weekends are harder to get motivated. I'll have to keep working on that. Hope everyone has a great week!

Good morning all! We made it through our first weekend! I am so excited that I was only up a 1/2 pound this morning. I am usually up 3-4(or more)from the weekend and then spend all week getting those pounds to go away. I am going to count my points today and then walk for a half an hour at school. Next thing to decide, what's for dinner? I do better with eating if I can plan things out in advance.:thumbsup2

Have a great day!

Good Morning! :)

I made good food choices over the weekend but didn't get in any exercise on Sunday. Unless doing housework counts. I'm thinking I should get to the gym this morning but the weather here is cold dark and raining so it's hard to get doing much of anything. I've had a protien bar and cup of tea to eat so far today. So good food choices now just to get in some exercise.

Have a great day!

Lill

Good Monday morning everyone!!!

Lill,
I think housework DEFINITELY counts as exercise! :thumbsup2

I need your help...we are going to dinner at a chinese restaurant tonight. Not fast-food chinese, but fancy chinese. Usually the foods I would end up eating would be deep fried or covered in heavy sauce, so I'm looking for suggestions about good choices...thanks!
