BL Challange - Red Team - Week 1

Quick question...or two. LOL

First, what is the best place or website to find how many calories are in fruits and veges?

I wanted a sandwich with some tomato slices earlier but I have no clue how many calories in a tomato slice.

Also, when it comes to exercise, does it have to be done in one long work out OR can you break it up into maybe 2 or 3 smaller workouts over the day?

For example, does walking 3 times a day for 30 minutes each time, have the same benefits as walking once for 90 minutes? :confused3

Thank you for any replies! :)

Hope everyone is having a great day so far. Just got back from going shopping and picking up "supplies" for the week.

Today has been a good one so far for me. Had raisin bran for breakfast and a yummy lunch of turkey breast, cheese (one of my weeknesses), apple & a few Taco Doritto's that my DD talked me into buying. We also got smoothies while we were out and I got a "light" one instead of the creamy (high calorie) one that I tend to get. Dinner will be fajita's. So I am still well within range for today and will end the day right in the middle of my range.

I will do 30 mins on the treadmill this afternoon & then a 3 mile (45 mins) in home walking this evening. For my exercise seems to be the "glue" that keeps everything togethter for me. Exercise just makes me feel better. When I feel better I tend to eat better. And eating better just make exericising easier. So for those of you putting off exercise you might consider adding just a little bit into your routine. Even a 20 min walk around the nieghborhood after dinner or first thing in the AM helps a lot. And if you think you don't have time, take a good look at your daily schedule and I bet you can find time to fit it in. Do you have an hour for lunch? take 20 - 30 mins and go for a walk. Can you get up 30 mins earlier to exercise? What do you do after dinner? Do you sit and watch 2 hours of TV? What about taking 30 mins and go for a walk. Even multi-task. There are times I set my laptop up to play one of my exericse DVD and I do it while I am watching TV. You CAN fit exercise in, IF you make it a priority. Make YOU a priority.

Try fitday.com or sparkpeople.com

You can do 2 - 3 short workouts and it will have the same benefit as a longer workout, as long as you do each session at the same intensity as you would the longer workout. If you spend 10 mins warming up & 10 min cooling down for the 90 mins workout you are spending 70 mins at the "high intensity." You will need to spend that same 70 mins at "high intensity" over the 3 - 30 min workouts, which can be achieved by spending less time warming up and cooling down.

Not to mention the benefits of raising your metabolism and getting an after burn multiple times per day.

IMO any time you can spend working out is beneficial. If you can only fit it in by breaking up then by all mean break it up. You are still moving. And if you are moving you are burning calories.

HI RED TEAM!!!!!!!!!! Good Afternoon!

It is raining on and off here in SW Wisconsin, but I am hoping to go for a walk outside in between the drops. It is amazing how being in a group like this really does motivate you:cheer2:

For breakfast today I had my usually granola, blueberries and muffins and for lunch I had 1 slice of bread with peanut butter and chips and salsa (I love my salsa :) ) and I keep having to remind myself that I need to keep drinking more water. I also had a little muskmelon today, as well as another bowl of granola with blueberries.

Now I am just waiting for my husband to get into the house, so that I can go for a walk without all 4 kids. It just makes walking that much more easier. :)

I hope everyone else is having a good day!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Just checking in today! Took the kids to swim lessons this morning and we ate out for lunch at our favorite Mexican restuarant. I bypassed the chips, salsa, and cheese and had a taco salad ordered off the kids menu. I didn't eat the shell so I am hoping that I am ok for the day. Hubby is making chicken parmisan for dinner so I am hoping the willpower will hold up. Dieting is much easier throughout the week!!! I just am going to try to be strictly WW points during the week and loosely on the weekend. I hope that works because usually I lose all the progress I have made over the weekend. I have 1 and 1/2 day down and 1 and 1/2 to go!

I so agree!! It just means we have to lean on each other more on the weekends and support each other to keep on track.

And Taco Salads are always my favorites to choose. They tend to fill me up more than other things on the menu. And skipping the shell, keeps the calories way down. Congrats on skipping the chips and salsa, that is one of my weeknesses at Mexican Restaurants.

Lisa,
Can you tell me how you do that, quoting multiple different people? I can't seem to make it work for more than one at a time!:)

Hey Tracy,

MommaU4 got it for you. Good. I registered on the DISboards in 2002 and I just figured out how to multiquote this year. :lmao: ;)

And from the BL thread at that. It might have even been Geekerbell (Laura) who showed me.

Enjoy,

Lisa

I'm a bit late but that's because Friday is my "cheat day" and DISing after a night out usually isn't a good idea:rotfl2:

Hi, my name is Brenda, and I'm a foodaholic. Yup, love to eat. Not many things I don't like (unfortunately). In chronological age, I come second only to Evettte. Sorry, Katy, Kathy, and Michelle... In maturity, well, that remains to be decided.

I'm single (divorced for 18 years) with two children. Just sent DS18 off to Air Force Basic Training in Texas on 8/26 with an expected graduation date of 10/10. One down, one to go. That one would be my mid-life crisis love child, aka DD11:laughing: .

I've never been particularly thin but had a few good years in the mid-90s when I was my thinnest, and then, well then DD came along. The pregnancy wasn't the problem, her severe allergy to cigarette smoking was. I quit for the good of the child and gained 37# in about three months. I have yet to take it back off.

So, I have 37# to lose. I started NutriSystem 12 days ago and all I can say is YUCK! I lost 4.2# the first week and another 1# for our weigh-in yesterday. My goal is to lose 13# in five weeks ending October 7th, then take a break while I'm in San Antonio for graduation. I then hope to lose the remaining #24 before New Years.

I'm walking about 25 minutes each day but not today. Both DD and I woke up with colds and feel pretty miserable. On cheat night last night I substituted my NS lunch and dinner with a few glasses of chardonnay and 3 slices of VERY thin chicken pesto pizza. Because of the three glasses of wine last night I just had to have chinese food today but I was pretty good, I stuck with Sauteed Vegetables and Moo Shi in very small portions. I now need to go to bed because I am hungry again;)

Good to meet everyone and best of luck. Brenda

Hi all - I've enjoyed reading everyone's stories, so I guess it's time to share mine. I'm a 37-year-old SAHM of two boys, proud military spouse, and a Jazzercise instructor. Yes, even fitness teachers need to lose a few pounds! I've lucky that I've found an exercise program that I really love. However, I like to eat as well, and the pounds are creeping on as I get a bit older. Plus, it's hard to call it "baby weight" when the baby is almost 6!

I rejoined WW at the beginning of the month and lost 5.5 pounds my first week! (:thumbsup2 to myself) I've done WW several times over the last 15 years, most recently online. I found it too easy to simply ignore the computer and not track my progress, so I'm making myself go to meetings. This week has been more challenging food-wise than the first week, but I'm determined to track my points no matter what.

I signed up for 10 weeks on WW, which is also the time of our pre-Thanksgiving cruise on the Wonder. I am making a public pledge that I will be wearing a bikini on that trip!

Charity, sorry, I forgot to tell you my name. I'm Colleen. Yes I work in NICU. I love my job.

Hey Colleen. :surfweb: Got it. I was asking about your work. That's an amazing responsibility you have. It's so nice to hear people that love their jobs. Nice.

Hi!

You're funny Brenda. I especially love the midlife crisis love child. :rotfl: :lovestruc . Still laughing as I type.

Well, just saying hi,

Lisa

Hi TCB in FLA,

Did I miss your name? Congratulations on your weight loss. That's so exciting to be that close to a bikini. Fantastic.

Yes, she did. Thanks Lisa!

I'm not Lisa, but I might be able to help.

In each post there is the Quote button that you'd usually use. Next to that is a middle button with a plus sign and some quote marks in it. Click on that. It should light up a red color.

That means you have selected that post to quote. You can then proceed to select as many posts as you'd like. Once you've chosen them all, at the bottom of all the posts on the left is the Post Reply button.
Click on it and all the posts you've chosen will show up and are ready to be replied to.

Hope that helps!

And it works! Thanks MommaU4, too!

Today seemed to be our party day. We had 2 parties to attend back to back. But I did not sub-come to the temptation of the cake!!!!! Actually there was no real temptation (YEAH!!)

My food for the day:
Breakfast: shrimp omelet
Lunch: none, breakfast was late & not hungry when it was time to leave
Dinner: Patty Melt w/ onion rings
Snack: Chai tea

Water: 48 ounces
Exercise: none, Saturdays are my day off

Not such a great day, but since I have been doing low carb and have been stalled, my dh and I wanted to see what would happen if I carb-ed up a little. We shall see what this splurge does for me.

I hope everyone everyone continues to have a great weekend. Tomorrow is church, house stuff and hanging with the family.

GO RED TEAM!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Sunday morning here! Kids are back to school and DH back to work. I also do better on week days!

Can't remember breakfast yesterday!

Lunch was turkey breast on a small whole wheat roll, with low fat mayo and mustard - fatoosh salad -

Dinner - Went for Thai food with some neighbors. I had pad thai chicken and several tiny dumplings! Yikes.

Back on track today. Breakfast was a small piece of wheat toast, and scrambled egg whites with onion, gr pepper, mushrooms. YUMMO and still not hungry.

Doing really well on water already today. 40 oz so far!

Drinking Water Really Helps Keep HUNGER away

I swear it does, so DRINK YOUR WATER!!!

Need to take a shower, do the laundry, etc. and maybe get in some excercise! STILL my downfall!

Keep up the Good Work!!!

Katy

Hi Red Team! Sounds like everyone is off to a great start! I'm back to counting points since I had such success with WW's. I have quit with my Mountain Dew and if I have to have the soda then it is caffeine free diet mountain dew. I need to work on the drink more water definately. But I'm real excited about my new purchase. I bought a treadmill!! I also looked up the Wii Fit last night after reading it on here. I had never heard of it. Now I want one! Does anyone have any suggestions for the best walking shoe?

Good morning everyone! It's a relaxing Sunday...a long time since I've had a day off with no plans, and I'm looking forward to just picking up around the house, and maybe I'll get on the treadmill for a bit this afternoon. I'll definitely fit my 30 minutes on the wii in this afternoon too! Yes, Angie, you definitely want a wii!! :thumbsup2
Breakfast yesterday was cheerios with bananas (prerun) and lunch was a blueberry scone (not the best lunch, I know, but it was my postrun treat and it was lunchtime...). At dinnertime I was at Applebee's with a friend and craving mashed potatoes, so I had a small steak with mashed potatoes and veggies. I also ate a few of DD's french fries...I could have probably made better choices, but overall I think I did ok, since there was no snacking all day and I feel that that is my major downfall. We'll see how that goes just being around the house all day today. I'll have to be careful.
I did pretty well drinking water yesterday. That's something else I definitely need to work on. I'll try to keep up today, although for the next little while at least it's going to be me and my coffee getting things going...:surfweb:

HAVE A GREAT DAY RED TEAM!!!

Well it's Sunday, which for me is weigh-in day. So I am happy to report a first week loss of 4 pounds. It just seems IMPOSSILBE since I have struggled so much lately. But I jumped back in with both feet and it really seems to have paid off.

Now it is time for breakfast, which will be a waffle w/ SF syrup.

The battery on my laptop is low so I will check back in later.

Red Team ROCKS!

Morning Red Team Buddies!!

Off to a good start today-did a 5k run this morning!! Finished in 34:25, which is over where I wanted to be, but considering this race was very hilly, it is respectable. Plus I think I was still bogged down by last nights pizza and wings, of which I ate tooooooo much.

Food today thus far:
Kashi bar pre race
banana and apple post race
cup of coffee
2 pieces of multi grain toast with dark chocolate peanut butter.

Already had 40 oz of water, so no trouble there.

I got home from the race to find that DD went to a friends house for the day, so DH and I are alone! What to do, what to do. Hmm, a nap sounds good. But I think we may take the dog for a nice long walk instead.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Hi all! I'm Krista and I'm 26 years old. I've been married for 3 years and we have no kids, but we're starting to talk about it. I'm just afraid that kids will cut in to my Disney vacation fund! :rotfl2: We are both teachers. I teach 5th grade and he teaches PE at a middle school.

I'm late joining the thread because I hadn't checked back to see if it was up yet. Whoops! I've been a DIS member for quite some time, but I mostly lurk here. Lately I've been reading a lot of the DCL forums becuase we are going on a 7 night cruise in July! I'm a very active poster at tourguidemike, so that's where I spend most of my Disney message board time. I enjoyed reading everyone else's bio's and am excited about this team!

I don't have a lot of weight to lose, but I do need to lose. I've been steadily gaining since I got married and it's time to put a stop to it. Right now, I'm trying to watch very closely what I eat during the week. DH and I eat no sweets at all. It was supposed to be no sweets ever, but he decided that we could eat them on weekends, so basically I throw my whole week of hard work down the drain every weekend. I get really out of control on the weekend. :headache:

DH and I are training for the WDW marathon right now, so that's what I do for exercise except I'm not always motivated to get up and run. I ran the marathon alone last year and was much better about my training. This year, I just don't feel like doing it all over again. I'm trying to run 2 miles three days a week, but this past week I only ran one day. Then on the weekends we do a long run, today we should run 11 miles, but of course, I don't want to. :sad2:

I'm hoping that posting on this thread will motivate me to eat right daily and do my exercise. Thanks for listening!

:cheer2: GO RED TEAM!!! :cheer2:

My name is Krista and I am 39. My DH and I have 3 kids, DD13, DD8 and DS6. My weight problem began after I had my first DD, who is now 13.

I don't meet a lot of Krista's who spell it with a K! Nice to have you on the team!
