Good morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend! How did you all do with all of the holiday foods?
I did well and have very little guilt/remorse about what I ate. I made good selections, both food type and quantity. I avoided potato, green bean casserole, rolls (both plain and sticky rolls), appetizers, and most of the candy.
On Saturday I did have about a large green salad with 1 Tb. of light dressing, 2 oz. ham, 1 C plain roasted sweet potatoes, and plenty of onion casserole (family tradition... think mac and cheese with onions sort of) and lemon meringue pie. I ate pretty much just as I planned. I LOVE the onion casserole and the pie and they are things that I ONLY get at T.giving and Easter, so I indulged with very little guilt. (Plus I was home, so I was able to use my measuring tools as needed, which helped a lot.)
Sunday was a bit tougher (at DSIL's house). I started with a nice salad, but it had been pre-dressed, so I wasn't able to control the amount of dressing. But was just an vinegar and oil, so not too bad. I did have about 3 oz of ham, about 2 oz of chicken breast, and a LARGE quantity of carrots, but I realized as I ate that the carrots were WAAAY too good and I asked and found out that they had butter and honey/syrup on them. But overall they were probably still a fairly healthy selection, compared to what else was available. I avoided the harvard beets, green bean casserole, the rolls, and MOST of the delmonico potatoes (I probably had 2 Tb.). I did have a small piece of cheese pie (sort of like cheese cake, but looser) and a piece of the angel food cake that I brought. Again, I didn't have much guilt. Later in the day I had a big bowl of fruit so that I could skip dinner and it worked.
I got in a full hour on the treadmill on Saturday night after my company left. It was difficult, because I was tired, but I KNEW I needed to and I felt much better when I was done.
Sunday morning I got up early to make my cake to take to DSIL's and then I got a full hour of exercise in again (20 minutes with J. Michaels video and 40 minutes of Wii Fit). Then DD woke up with an earache so we attended the "church of the pediatrician's office" instead of regular church. But we still made it to DSIL's in Massachusetts only a little late. And again, I was SO glad I got in that workout. I think it really kept me from overindulging all day.
I'm not sure what the scale will show this coming Friday, but at least I know that I did well and worked hard and won't feel too much remorse about overeating.
I hope everyone else was able to find a happy medium with their holiday eating. I think it is all about finding that spot where you have a treat or two, but don't go hog-wild. If you don't allow yourself ANY kind of splurge, I think you end up feeling deprived. Overeat and overindulge and you are (probably) wracked with guilt and remorse and beat yourself up over it.
If you DID overindulge, TODAY IS A NEW DAY! Get right back on program. Hide the kid's candy... freeze or dump the leftovers in the fridge, plan your foods for the day (or week) as you normally would for your own healthy eating plan (whichever plan you use) and stick to it. Get moving.... add an extra 15 minutes to your exercise routine for today (and again tomorrow, if you can). By Friday the guilt and the weight will be on its way out! And remember, if that overindulging involved lots of ham or other salty foods, DRINK, DRINK, DRINK! Flush out that salt.
Happy Monday everyone!....................P
