Can you freeze these raw, then take out and cook? And if so, how long do you cook them from frozen state? I have only made these once, but cooked immediately. They were a big hit.

(I am trying to do as much as possible before Christmas) tia :flower3:

I have frozen them after baking them. I would think you could freeze them raw. I'm planning to make some tonight!

I don't know about freezing them, but I made some of those just today. I use the pre-cooked Jimmie Dean turkey sausage crumbles.

How in the world do you get them to stay together with precooked crumbles? Mine uses bisquick, raw sausage, and cheese. The raw sausage is what makes it stay in a ball. Don't you need something moist more than some cheese shreds?

I was interested too so I googled it and it says that they are fine to mix, make into ball and freeze until you are ready to bake.

BTW- There was a recipe that does cook the sausage before you make the balls. It also called for water where the others to not.

We love sausage balls! They are really good if you add a block of cream cheese to the mixture. It makes them more moist. moister? LOL

The recipe I use calls for some milk, too. So I mix the cooked sausage with the dry Bisquick, then add the grated cheese, then finally add the milk and mix it in to form the "dough".

Can anyone give me the amounts of ingredients for the sausage balls? I can't find my recipe and it is not on my bisquik box. Thanks.

It's 1-2 3

1 pound sausage
2 cups shredded cheese
3 cups Bisquick

350° 20+ minutes

Or not ;)
There's a bunch of different recipes out there, but that's the one I've got in my cooking notebook

I also use 1 lb sausage and 2 cups cheese, but only 3/4-1 cup mix. That is the mixture for the original Jimmy Dean recipe except it also adds a few spices which I don't add.

Making some tonight, too! My son loved these when his ex gf's mom from hs used to make them so asked me to add them to the Xmas appetizer list this year. This is only my second time making them but I remember them being goooood! :thumbsup2

yes you can freeze them raw. Or you can undercook them if it worries you & then just finish cooking them later.

We have been eating these as long as I can remember - about 35 yrs I guess. Mom always made them for Christmas parties & then wedding showers.

I make them for Christmas morning b'fast now. And yes there are several recipes - just know you want them really moist before going in the oven or they will be just too dry.

spicy sausage & sharp cheese are our favorite

Thanks for mentioning it. I get the turkey sausage crumbles often. Never thought to use them in sausage balls. I might give it a try. :)
