Birthed for German engineering?!?

Okay, maybe I should cut Brooke Shields a break as she was probably schooled by tutors on movie sets, perhaps she did she not learn anything about the Holocaust? That the Nazis Eugenics was about engineering and birthing a superior Aryan race so they killed millions of Jews, homosexuals, etc., and more than 400,000 people were sterilized against their will, as they considered them "life unworthy of life."

Does anyone else find the new Volkswagon commercials in bad taste? I'm not German or Jewish or gay, so is there some inside joke I am missing that "Birthing for German engineering" can now be considered funny?

And what about the fact that infertility is on the rise in record numbers, do women who suffer from this need to be reminded of it by constantly seeing jokes about other women who would get pregnant to be able to own a car?

It never occurred to me, to tell you the truth, and I'm sure it wasn't the advertiser's intent. But, if enough people see it this way I'd suggest they shoot new commercials.

I don't think they are in bad taste...I just think they are stupid.

Brooke Shields graduated with honors from Princeton. She majored in French literature.

Although I don't think the commercials are funny, you have to admit that if even the other actors in the commercial are making fun of her - which they are by denying their choice to get pregnant is to be able to drive the new VW car - it's a huge stretch to think they have any sort of political or historical message.

I think Brooke saw a good opportunity to make some money and took it. I say good for her. I was neutral on her but her bout with PPD and the graceful way she handled the press about it, especially with the doltish behavior Tom Cruise exhibited, put me firmly in her corner.

I never read anything into the commercial other then they are silly. I actually never paid attention to the vehicle. I would be able to tell you Brooke was being silly, but not what the actual car make was. I actually haven't paid too much attention to alot of commercials lately due to all the political junk. I usually turn them down.

I've never read anything into them at all. I think that is just fishing for insensitivity - a common trait these days, it seems, in our world of overdone political correctness...

We happen to find the commercials funny because they are so absurd and overacted (deliberately, not a dis to Brooke - she's great).
