Birthday party question

I think you're wise to reconsider. We did a movie party for my younger son's 8th birthday last year. It was either the same weekend or 1 week after The Lego Movie came out. He was allowed to invite 4 friends (whose moms I knew) and they dropped the boys off at a McDonald's near the theater. We provided lunch at McD's, then walked the short distance to the theater (no car transportation needed) and we bought tickets for all the kids and my husband and older son chaperoned. The moms picked up the kids at the theater. It was truly one of the easiest parties we've ever done, but I don't think I would have done it with 5-yr-olds.

When my son was 5, I took a few friends to the bowling alley on a week day. Two of the moms came along since they were friends of mine. I smuggled in cupcakes for the kids. Afterwards, two of the boys whose parents were working, went to the park with us then I dropped one at home and the other came to our house till his mom got off work.

I found it easiest for all involved if I knew the parents of the kids invited pretty well.
