Birthday button question

We went last fall with my mom over her birthday. We got her button from resort check-in. She could have worn it all week, but would only wear it on her actual birthday. Essentially every single CM said "Happy Birthday [first name]" to her all day long - at first it freaked her out because she kept forgetting she was wearing a pin with her name on it, but it was very fun, especially for my kids (her grandkids). Plus, they sang to her at the Hoop-Dee-Doo. We had lunch at BOG. Don't think she got anything special there, though, iirc.

My mom got it when we were there for her 65th ... and wants it again when we go next year for 70

I know Guest relations in MK had a cart outside one year with all the pins.
But I had forgot my anniversary pin in the room so went to Guest relations at I think EPcot.
And usually they have them at the check in desk of the resort.

We went for our Anniversary the past two years. The first year we wore our pin a couple days then decided to not wear it one day and DH and I missed all the friendly wishes. So we wore it the rest of the trip and then again last year.
First year we got an extra a lot. Really didn't eat the extra dessert cupcakes because we were on dining plan and already had dessert but it was a nice gesture.
Last year not a lot of extra and even not as many well wishes but we did get the anniversary cupcake at Crystal Palace.
Wear the pin and celebrate that you have had another birthday. There are a lot of people hoping to see another one.
Wishing you pixie dust. pixiedust:

Just curious did you have the years written the first time or was it a milestone? I'm way more likely to congratulate milestone anniversaries.

I really really really would keep yourself from expecting *anything*. There are so many first-timers (or people wearing first-timer pins), there are so many people celebrating things (including birthdays) that it really is best to expect nothing but the occasional "congratulations".

Some people get things. Many people don't. Don't wear a button in order to get anything. Wear it because it's fun for you and your group, and because it reflects your joy and reasons for being there.

100% agree. Do not expect anything- and do not ask for anything. If some pixie dust comes your way, great, but if not then just enjoy your vacation and the occasional best wishes/congratulations. I would also like to know about whether or not there are landmark anniversary buttons. We are celebrating a landmark anniversary this trip- and the concierge specifically asked which one it was. Do they put that information on the button- or was it just for their information and we will receive the 'generic' button?

1. Is 41 too old for a birthday button?

Not to be a downer but the only day you can't celebrate a birthday would be the day you are longer around to have a birthday.

And - remember Alice in Wonderland and the Unbirthday Celebration.

Check with the resort and any guest relations (every park has one right in the front and DTD has one also). resorts tend to run out but guest relations usually has a good supply of most buttons. Also if starting at MK, stay left when you go under the train station, you'll also see a cart that has every button in it to get them easily. The cart isn't on the right side.

What you get can vary. You will get happy birthdays from a lot of people. Some have mentioned getting a free desert occasionally with them at a meal. Dont' expect anything above being told happy birthday so often you take it off partway through the day.

We celebrated my 40th at DL a month before the actual birthday (so that we could do MHP,) and you better believe I wore my birthday badge! I got lots of well wishes and the best treat of all - a sweet kid working at a snack stand near World of Color said...wow, you don't look CLOSE to 40!

I'm celebrating my 41st at Disney next year (Wanted to go for my 40th, but the money didn't work out) and I will absolutely be wearing a birthday button on my birthday. And birthday ears.

We're planning on celebrating our 30th anniversary and DH's 60th birthday, but the time we can travel bears no connection to either of those dates. I'm glad to see that won't matter.
We celebrated both our 60th Bday and 41st anniversary last Dec at WDW. We couldn't travel at the time of each so just rolled them into one 2 week vacation at WDW. While we didn't wear buttons, (forgot about them) when I called Disney reservations for ADR or anything else they always asked casually if you are celebrating anything. Well our Crystal Palace breakfast, after we were done eating, the waitress brought out cupcakes and signed cards for both of us. DW says, "How did they know we are celebrating?" and I told her I guess I told them in the casual conversation while making reservations. Nice surprise but not expected.

You have to get a birthday pin! It definitely doesn't have to be on the actual day, just whenever you are celebrating! I heard someone say once "it has to be between 6 months before or 6 months after" meaning anytime within the entire year haha!

My boyfriend and I were there for our birthdays this past summer, and mine actually was during the trip. I wore my button all week and many, many times we were given dessert and a lot of times I got really nice cards...HOWEVER obviously nothing is guaranteed anywhere. I couldn't believe how constantly I was saying "thank you!" because every CM went out of their way to wish me a happy birthday, and so did tons of guests! I'm a "happy birthday wisher" too when I'm there so it was nice to see other guests were too!

The two most memorable desserts I was given were a chocolate mousse moose at Le Cellier and a vanilla ice cream & churro mouse from La Hacienda. Our table at Cali Grill on my actual birthday was covered in Mickey confetti with a birthday card, and I had a Little Mermaid birthday cake my boyfriend special ordered for me. I was also given a birthday grey stuff cupcake at BOG. I got a bunch of birthday cards including one signed by all the princesses at Akershus which was really neat. I did note on our reservations it was my birthday hahaha I was so excited! My boyfriend's was a few days before we left for the trip, and he wore his button the first two days but stopped because he kept forgetting it!

A good tip I learned - ask them to put clear scotch tape over your name after they write it. My first button smeared because my arm with the sunscreen on kept rubbing against it and smeared the marker. When I got a new one the really helpful CM at a store on the Boardwalk put clear tape over it and it was awesome! I never thought of doing that, and it worked great and you couldn't even tell.

I wore one last year for my 57th birthday and plan to wear one this year for my 58th. I got lots of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" the whole day. I wasn't expecting any treats but the girl at one of the snack carts gave me a free ice cream.

Have posted this story in another one of these threads but I think it's okay to talk about it again. I took my gramma for her 80th last year and I wasn't expecting anything to happen for her... Hoping yes but not expecting and I am happy to say I was pleasantly surprised when little things started happening. Chocolate delivered to the room, a random phone call coming out of a ride with birds wishes from Goofy and several other magical touches throughout the whole week but above all I can say we were extremely extremely grateful. At one point in the middle of the afternoon I went to talk to the desk staff at grand Floridian to thank them for everything and just burst into tears I couldn't help it but I think it's very important to show gratitude and maybe that helps encourage the good to keep coming your way.

So that would be my advice, be hopeful but not demanding and above all be thankful. With those magic bands watching your every move (clearly because they knew we were on a ride without FP+ and even that we were coming down the walkway at that exact moment because the CM knew my grammar name and everything and ad the phone ready) but anyway, they definitely always know where you are and can check what you have going on/celebrating so I'm sure if you're rude or ungrateful there will be a note about it, just like if you're appreciative.

That being said, simply being there and knowing its your birthday is just special. I'm going back for my 30th this coming April and will wear a button and be proud of it. Do I hope that some magic might happen, of course! We all do. But I'm already so excited to walk into Magic Kingdom on my birthday that the magic is already there so if nothing else happens except me getting a castle selfie and a soaking on splash mountain I'm okay with that!

Good luck and pixie dust to you on your birthday though! Enjoy it!
