Bin Laden - celebrations

You accused me of hating all muslims! When I never even mentioned them once. I think most muslims prefer to distance themselves and their beliefs from Bin Laden.
I think that she was referring to this quote:
"Well in my book when someone is disgusted by the actions of a group of people who belong to one larger group, she/he is stating disgust by those people individually and as a whole. The people the OP was referencing her disgust with are individual American citizens celebrating the actions of our country as a whole."

In other words if you comment on a group of Americans then it reflects on all Americans just as if you comment on a group of Muslims then it must reflect on all Muslims.

That's how I understood the comment at least and in no way reflects my opinion which I'll keep to myself. :)

I was not accusing you of hating all Muslims. I was asking if you did by using your logic that you posted in the Post that I was referencing.

Yes, that! :thumbsup2

I've seen this posted numerous times in this thread, and just wondering if there really is anyone here that believes Bin Laden's life was indeed, precious?

When I read the MLK quote, I am thinking of the thousands lost on 9/11 as the precious ones. And the death of one = enemy. I certainly don't mourn for Osama.

Do you really not see where I got that from your post?

Aren't you disgusted with the terrorists that attached us on 9/11? You know the Muslim terroristss? By using the logic from the bolded above that means that you should find all Muslims disgusting since they are a part of that larger group. Or is that not what you are saying? :confused3
Oops, I thought that you left or I wouldn't have posted. I'll bow out now.

No I honestly have no idea where you got that from at all!
The OP stated she was disgusted by the celebrations, I never said I was disgusted by Muslims.

By that logic you are disgusted by and hate all Muslims?:confused3

This is exactly what you posted, I had never written the word Muslim once on this entire thread before you posted the above. You chose to say Muslims you could have just as easily put in Lady Gaga as an example.

No insult to Lady Gaga

The OP stated she was disgusted by the celebrations, I never said I was disgusted by Muslims.

But you are disgusted by Osama and the 19 hijackers, correct?

Re-read what you wrote and see if you can figure out how I concluded that you hate Muslims

I'm giving up on this now since it isn't getting through.

Have a good day. :goodvibes

Again you chose to use Muslims when I had not once written that word.
I never stated my disgust woth anything except the dragging of the naked American soldier threw the streets of Mogadishu in 1993. I specifically said disgust in that post.

Ok, first of all I did not say that I thought any of it was disgusting or that I was appalled at anything. Please point out where I even remotely hinted at that?

Second, mermaid, ok so what about our citizens feeling the same way? That's part of our family, right?

Third, I also have NOT bashed anyone that has celebrated in that fashion.

This is why threads like these get out of control...people read into things that simply are NOT there. (See bolded.)

Of course part of the family.... and while I disagree with them... it doesn't make me feel the same way as a citizen of another country calling the celebrations disgusting...

I have work on my desk and can't even believe I spent all this time this morning on the DIS!!! I am not bowing out just working for the next 8 hours or more. Have a good day.

We are not barbarians. What separates us from him is our humanity, respect for life and morals. By celebrating a death of anyone, to me, brings us a little closer down to his level.

I felt relief at his death. I felt patriotism and respect for those brave soliders who carried out the operation. I felt hope that there can be a better tomorrow. However, I did not feel joy at the loss of a human life. He may have deserved to be dragged through the streets and hung up from a flagpole, but giving him a respectful burial speaks volumes about the kind of people Americans are. To me, personally, celebrating the death of another human being tarnishes that a bit.

Did you not see the people outside the WH acting like they were at a kegger?
Chanting USA at a baseball game, waving the american flag, reciting the pledge of allegiance are completely different types of celebrations than the party-type atmosphere that I saw on TV.

In your opinion, is it ok to celebrate like this?

So many of you talk about it being wrong to "celebrate death". Death is celebrated all the time. At many funerals, the mourners rejoice in the knowledge of their loved one being in Heaven. In cases of terminal illnesses that cause much pain to the person, death is considered welcome by them and by their loved ones.

If you felt that Bin Laden was "murdered" or was wrongly killed, maybe I could understand the thought that "death should not be celebrated". But that is not the case here. If he had been captured, he still would have been killed just as Hussein was. Bin Laden MADE THIS CHOICE.

And Bin Laden's is not the first death to be celebrated by a country anyway. Hitler's death was celebrated probably around the world. Hussein's death was celebrated. What exactly is the difference?

The way his death was treated proves we are not barbarians, he was given more respect than he ever deserved. They way we are celebrating what his death means, only means we are human IMO.
