Billy Ray Cyrus Blames Disney For Problems~

How old is Selena Gomez? Can anyone really say she has "turned out" one way or another yet?

I am guessing this is based on of no rehab (Demi Lovato), naked pictures (Vanessa Hudgens), "drugs" and several imappropriate actions/pictures (Miley Cyrus). But... there is always time....:sad2:

This is direct from TMZ, so it must be true

I find it hard to feel sympathy for him. He certainly wasn't complaining when they were raking in the dough. And if I remember correctly, the Vanity Fair magazine shoot that he blames on handlers - wasn't he there and in some of the pictures with Miley?

I know there has been the recent "bong controversy" with Miley, but I still think it a stretch to compare her with Anna Nicole. It's not like marijuana use in college age kids is unusual. I don't see Miley becoming an "Anna Nicole" train wreck.

Just the whole "going to TMZ, or wherever, with your families dirty laundry" seems like something that a Michael Lohan might do. No wonder Miley hasn't spoken to her dad in months. It sounds like he may be bitter about not being able to ride her coattails anymore now that she is an adult. I think this is more about him getting attention, than anything else.

Look, maybe he needed to be a bit more vigilant. But seriously. Have you seen all the train wrecks that come out of being Disney stars as a young girl? Brittany Spears? Lindsay Lohan? Personally, I think Miley is one of the better kids. Kudos to her dad for even realizing there is a problem.

You know what's strange? You never hear of these "train wrecks" happening to the Nickelodeon teen stars. Amanda Bynes from The Amanda Show, tho two teens from Drake and Josh, Larisa Oleynik from The Secret World of Alex Mack; Jamie Lynn Spears from Zoey 101(yeah, she was a teen mom, but still not a public train wreck); Kenan and Kel, etc.

Why do they fall apart when working for Disney, but seem to turn out fairly normal when working for Nick?

I noticed that too.
Although Drake Bell from Drake and Josh does have a photo of his southern region going around the internet.

It's not Disney. It's childhood stardom. Hilary Duff turned out fine and she had a successful Disney show. Ryan Gosling was on the Mickey Mouse club with Britney. I would say Justin Timberlake never had a train wreck status.

I had just read the full 6 page interview this morning and never got the impression that he was placing blame on Disney, just that he felt that making the decision to be on the show ruined his family. He is obviously in a bad place right now.

He also mentioned that he is not Miley's manager, has never made a commission off of her and "only" made $15,000 per week on HM.

Totally agree!!! Some people just handle the stardom better than others. They always have, it has nothing to do with Disney.

I heard Nick protects their young stars and even has an entire program preparing them for not only fame, but life after being a child star. Disney seems to suck their kids' souls for all their worth, then toss them once they are too old to be marketable to their target audience.

Disney's history with child stars is not good. Nick has many child stars continue to be successful, working actors even as adults. I don't think Billy Ray is too far off in his blame of Disney. He definitely needs to look in the mirror some, but I don't think he is wrong that Miley's handlers are not looking out for her best interests.

He kinds of takes some blame, sort of, but it sounds like lip service, IMHO. He was the father of a minor, and he had lots of experience in entertainment. He should've taken a stronger hand. Hannah Montana didn't ruin his family--for that, he can look in the mirror.

Hannah Montana and Disney didn't do anything that he and his wife didn't ALLOW to happen.

Yes, hindsight is 20/20, and are Disney and Miley's "handlers" innocent in all this? Probably not. But the fact remains that he's her father and her mother is her mother, so the buck stopped with them. Or at least it SHOULD have.

I'm not sure that's an apt comparison since, with the exception of Amanda Bynes, none of those examples are really big stars.

Kenan is on Saturday Night Live now (and one of my favorite cast members :thumbsup2).

No, it's a fair comparison. I think perhaps you are over evaluating the stardom of the Disney teens. Many of the stars mentioned in this thread have not gone on to stardom after their Disney shows, but have merely risen to fame in the tabloids - there's a difference. We hear about Lindsay Lohan, Demi Lovato, Vanessa Hudgens; etc not because of their fame rising post Disney, but because of their public antics.

Family Fun Mom had some interesting info on the difference between the two, and how the two stations treat their talent. Perhaps that is why the Nick stars turn out more stable.

Agree.

He appears to be just a glory hound to me. Is there anything he is promoting? New movie, book, or music?

Usually that is the standard mode of operation....get some negative publicity to get yourself back in the news.:rolleyes1

I agree. From what I heard on the news, he wasn't blaming anyone on the show, or business managers or anyone like that. He could have worded it better, but I believe he means that it was a mistake to allow her to do the show. Because he blames himself for not parenting better, he kinda seems to be taking full responsibility. But the press picked up the whole "blame Disney" thing and ran with it.

ITA! :thumbsup2 I never got the impression he was blaming the show just his decision to do the show. I think anyone who's family falls apart will look back and say "If I hadn't done XYZ then this wouldn't have happened." I think it is a completely normal reaction.

So NOW he realizes he should have been worried MORE about being a father and worried LESS abot being her friend? Ummmmm....A little late, Bud. People (I'm in the group) have been saying for years that he was WAY too concerned with being her buddy and not putting that much effort into being a parent. Shame he didn't get a clue when it might have done some good. But heck, PARENTS have to say "No" occasionally, don't they? And that's no fun! Crap, you might even have to ground them. :scared1:

Hide and watch. Miley is not yet a train wreck, but she's on the tracks and the signal lights are blinking. She'll be buck nekkid in a magazine and/or have a sex tape well before 25......Might not make it to 21. The salvia show was just to prove to the "older fans" she was cool, but I don't think she has the sense to stay off drugs.

As for her giving 40-something y.o. men lap dances when she was 16 or so......Well, just watch that video of Miley and her dad at the Vanity Fair shoot. The creepy factor is off the charts. If my mother had seen my father "interacting" with me like that, she'd have been torn between getting the shotgun and calling the sheriff.

Nope, I think BRC sees the train wreck coming and is trying to absolve himself of as much responsibility as possibility before the crash occurs. Smarter than he seems, that one......
