Billy Ray Cyrus Blames Disney For Problems~

Does he blame Disney for the millions of dollars his family has earned (I think either he or his ex-wife acts as manager) or the brief resurgence of his own mediocre career?

It's always easier to "blame" someone else, Billy Ray should pull up his "Dad pants" and take some responsibility!

Did he blame the damn show for all the money they were earning? Another parent looking to blame everyone else. You are the dad. STEP UP!

Does he blame Disney for the over-the-top photos he took WITH her? Seriously, he needs to step up and accept his own role in destroying his daughter's life and his marriage.

Look, maybe he needed to be a bit more vigilant. But seriously. Have you seen all the train wrecks that come out of being Disney stars as a young girl? Brittany Spears? Lindsay Lohan? Personally, I think Miley is one of the better kids. Kudos to her dad for even realizing there is a problem.

Just as an aside, I know someone who knows him pretty well. He made many millions before Miley. She doesn't know how much, but she lives in the same town he owns a home in, and the word around town was that he was worth 50M, even before Miley.

I do wish Miley well, but he's a whiner. I don't hear him complaining about all the money they made.

I agree. While she was still a minor he had a lot of control unless he signed it away. With his years of experience in the business, I doubt that he did that and if he did, he needs his butt kicked even harder. I don't know enough (anything, for that matter) about Hannah Montana to comment on that, but greed can affect the brain when it comes to making decisions. He failed, period! Now they can all run off to rehab and make everything okay...

Would someone post the text to Fox's "Fair & Balanced" article? I can't access it.

From what I've read on other sites, Daddy did take some responsibility. He has acknowledged that he should have been more strict.

When did this interview take place? A friend of mine posted pics on Facebook of her DD with Billy Ray on the set of Miley's new movie that was being filmed at her college. Obviously, he was there with her. How bad could their communication be?????

He needs to get a grip, no use playing the blame game...the damage is done. It's time to get her help before it's too late!

Billy Ray Cyrus Scared For Daughter Miley, Says Hannah Montana 'Destroyed My Family'

Country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus blames Disney's "Hannah Montana" for his daughter Miley Cyrus' issues, angrily saying "the damn show destroyed my family," the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Blaming publicists and Miley's handlers, Cyrus gives an anguished interview in GQ's March issue, where he adds he wishes "Hannah Montana" never happened.

"I hate to say it, but yes, I do. I'd take it back in a second," said Cyrus, who is divorcing Miley's mother, Tish.

Reflecting on Miley's controversial moments -- including seductive photos on the internet, pole-dancing at the Teen Choice Awards, and posing for Vanity Fair draped in a sheet -- Cyrus said he should have been stricter, and accuses her handlers of going too far to promote her, and then using him as the fall guy.

He tells GQ: "Every time the train went off the track ... her people, or as they say in today's news, her handlers, every time they'd put [the blame on] me ... I took it because I'm her daddy ... OK, nail me to the cross.

"I'm scared for her. She's got a lot of people around her that's putting her in a great deal of danger. I want to get her sheltered from the storm."

Talking about Miley's 18th birthday party at LA bar Trousdale, Cyrus said: "You know why I didn't go? Because they were having it in a bar. It was wrong. It was for 21 years old and up ... all them people, they all wanted me to fly out so that then when all the bad press came they could say, 'Daddy endorsed this stuff.' I started realizing I'm being used."

Then photos surfaced of Miley smoking the legal herb salvia from a bong. Cyrus, who gave the interview to GQ's Chris Heath five days after the photos emerged, said he had not spoken to Miley since, but confronted one of her handlers: "They told me it was none of my business."

Cyrus described his communication with Miley as "good enough to know it could be a lot better."

The two pop stars both got sexy as teens, but has Miley Cyrus taken things one - or ten - steps further?

I thought posting a link from Fox's "Fair and Balanced" website was a little more credible than "Popeater", etc. which basically all say the same thing.
I'm sure there's always more behind the story but a quote is a quote.

Thanks, Teresa & Minniebeth.

In reading that article, I see him both placing blame and accepting blame. I'm not so sure that I wouldn't be doing the same thing.

Just because you are "in the business" as a performer means you are savvy enough to navigate it for your child. Most of us would have made very similar mistakes.

I see him as a man who now sees what a mistake it was to let his daughter become a star at a young, impressionable age. He blames not only himself for allowing it to happen in the first place, but also blaming those who were "handling" her for looking out for their bottom line first and not the welfare of a child.

There's enough blame for everyone.

I'm sure there's always more behind the story but a quote is a quote.

Always is. :)

I kind of see his point but I think it is more the handlers and managers fault more than Disney as a whole.

Selena Gomez turned out fine!

Miley was the one who got high and got it on video, she is the one taking bad photos, etc.

If you read the entire GQ interview linked earlier, he admits that he tried to be Miley's friend instead of her father. He knows he has made mistakes.

I don't know about that - she's been hanging around with the deadbeat Bieber....

;)

Not a big fan of Miley or Billy Ray but I can see his point.

He did take blame in the article and placed blame as well. He did have the ultimate say in her life but I believe he is correct in stating that there should be more people looking out for these young pop stars. The industry does use them and then when they go bad, toss them aside. It is really sad.

It must be really difficult to handle all of it, even if you are in the business. I am sure he just wanted her to be successful and have a great future. And now that she is going astray, he's looking back and realizing all the mistakes he made.

It is not really any different that any parent that has a teenager that makes bad choices, and then the parent reflects back at all the things they could have done differently. He and her are just in the public eye and lots of people want to "use her" for their gain. So much more pressure there.

He says he has a good relationship with her so maybe he can get her to make some better choices for herself, now that he has admitted things are going bad. Hopefully he can give her the guidance all children need as they enter adulthood.
