bikes or no bikes?

One thing I might suggest, we got lights for the bikes, b/c if your children are young, some of the paths are dark if you ride your bike to the launch to see fireworks (we didn't havea golf cart the whole time).

I agree with the lights on the bikes. The main drag get's very dark between the Meadows and The Settlement. I always forget to get them and I'm going to make a reminder to do so because we go next month.

I like our bikes better than a cart because you're not looking for a place to park. I think carts are good for people with small one's. Much safer because people fly on the carts around corners and on loops.

Busses are good, but the bikes are the best. You can get places quicker or slower depending upon what you choose and you can take in more of the outdoors life.

I haven't been to FW yet, but would you let a very responsible 14 yo girl ride around by herself in the campground? (I'm a little over-protective, but trying to reform before she gets her driver's license.)

Also, are scooters (non-motorized) allowed?

Armed with a cellphone, in the daytime, yes, I'd let her ride around alone. You're right, in less than 2 years she'll want to be driving off alone

Yes, push scooters and electric scooters are allowed on sidewalks.

We never lock our bikes, either. If I parked it at the Outpost I might, though, since the parking lot might make it easier for someone to tote them off.

The little bike is a $40 Target special, and the two other bikes are $450 special order Schwinns--it's hard to find 7 speed bikes with coaster brakes!

Were did you find 7 speed bikes with coaster brakes? I've looked everywhere for one for my son. What is the wheel size? The nearest I could find with coaster brakes is the smaller kid size bikes and my son is big enough for the early teen size bikes now. $450 sounds like a lot but I might.

I agree with everyone else, bring your bikes if there is anyway you can. Especially if you have kids but even if you don't it's great fun to ride around the campground. There is nothing like riding around the campground in early morning/late night for the experience and the whole place is just perfect for it. My favorite places are the path where you turn left comming from 2000 loop, heading toward the trading post, and the long path going all the way up to the outpost.

Oh we do always lock our bikes; I've never actually seen any stolen and I see unlocked bikes laying around all the time but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.

Yep, they're the ones. I don't see the exact ones we have but here is a link to some similar but cuter. We've had ours for going on 10 years and they didn't have the cute colors back then! I might have to upgrade to a cool color one day--hard to justify, though, because mine is still great! I was so glad to find a multi-speed with a coaster brake. I could just never adjust to a hand-brake. I knew I'd go head-over-teakettle some day!

Ah ok, I though there might be a regular boys bike with that option. Not exactly the "cool" look for a pre-teen boy. Don't know why someone doesn't make regular boys bikes with coaster brakes, I think it would be a big hit.

Thanks for the info. I'll make sure she has her cellphone, and that I'm busy doing something else so I won't worry so much!

My other two kids will be thrilled they can ride their scooters. This is going to be such a fun trip. I can't wait!!!!!
