Biggest Misconceptions

For those who have been to the parks with FP+, what do you find are the biggest misconceptions people make with the new system? I was reading a post the other day and the poster was saying how they saw a woman at the park arguing with a CM about how she gets to ride the selected ride as many times as she wants as long as it is within her FP window. Is there incorrect info out there or do people just not know how to google something? I am not saying this to be mean, just intrigued.

Good question. I can see someone not being familiar with Disney or not knowing they need to research this particular vacation in advance becoming very frustrated with all of the rules and regulations.

I definitely think this was true. When we used one of our FPs one of the guests we stepped in front of at the merge point started railing at the CM about how it wasn't fair that some people had more money and could pay to skip the line.

Most folks on this site do a lot of research, or have come here to become informed. However, we're (the folks on the DISboards) are a small fraction of the folks who visit WDW. Many are counting on friends who probably aren't as well informed or TA's who only have so much time to talk. The folks who don't know are always going to be there..............can't lead folks to information if they don't want it.................or think they know better.

When I talk to people who haven't been to WDW as much or as often..............my #1 advise is get a guide book. Birnbaums (sp) or The Unofficial Guide to WDW..........a ton of info at their finger tips. A lot of times I lend out last years issue (yeah I'm a bit protective of the current years version ) For the folks I done this with.........I truly believe its helped.

I quite honestly thought this very early in my planning. When I was deciding where to stay, I kept seeing that picking fastpasses earlier was a bonus of staying on-site and I was like "Pshh, I'm not wasting money on fastpasses."

I could make a list of ridiculous things I believed before I started planning our trip.

That having a FP+ For Captain EO first thing in the morning is a good and necessary thing. Seriously saw people doing this. I don't note this to be mean, but point out the misconception that some folks have about the necessity of the fastpasses they select (or are just given by MDX).

I overheard a woman ask a cast member at Spaceship Earth if her "hopper ticket" entitled her to use the FastPass line. I doubt that's a common misconception, but it did make me wonder how much a "line hopper" ticket would cost compared to a park hopper .

I actually read a review on trip advisor recently where the person said all the lines were so long but they hadn't paid extra for fastpass

I have heard that so many times it is ridiculous! Yes, they can track you, but, they only track you as a number unless there is a reason to track you as a person. They want to know where people are in the park, not where an individual person is in the park. They need to know how to man each area and what kind of traffic it is generating. If they truly wanted to track individuals specifically do you have any idea how many people it would take on the staff to do that.

I understand that the novel and movie 1984 which put a great deal of emphasis on the problem of "big brother" tracking has kind of brought out a lot of paranoia in many people, it isn't, in Disney's case anyway, a completely personal thing. It is also a direct result of our seeming never ending quest to be attached electronically 24/7/365. It is the side affect of that obsession and is already at a point of no return. We got what we asked for, but, in the case of Disney, it is relatively harmless. Yes, if someone were to give them your ID number they could find you, but, otherwise, it would be a waste of time and energy to care unless requested.

Some folks just head down, stay offsite and get tickets at the gate. Then they are kinda at a loss for FP's. Disney is getting complicated sorry to have to admit. When people ask me to help them plan the thing I ask is how much do you want to spend and are you staying on site. That way at least I know how mad they are likely to be if they get their tickets at the gate and have no FP's planned.

Peoples' cell phones are much more efficient and detailed, though the social networking selfie crowd does the best job of tracking themselves for the benefit(?) of others.

Even after multiple trips to all of the parks, DH and DD7 still say "Disney" when they mean the Magic Kingdom. So I'm sure that newbies have the same misconception.

Yeah I've seen a couple times where people thought they had an hour to ride as much as they wanted.

You know, I agree with what dkrauss mentioned, here on dis boards we are all pretty informed for the most part. I am pretty surprised at some disney veterans/people who live in the area who I know that are ill informed or they just don't know. Last year when we were headed to the Anna/Elsa m&g a woman I was walking by told me oh thats at Epcot that isn't here at MK. We had just through the castle so I knew it was at fairytale hall and that was to the right of us, I just wasn't sure where the entrance was and we were in a hurry. I think I must have looked at her like she had 3 heads lol
