Biggest Loser 9 Spring challenge -- Part 2! HERE WE ARE! :)

oops, it only took me 20 pages til it donned on me that I wasn't getting updates. Geesh where is my brain???

I have completely fallen off the wagon and have been left in the dust. I have no desire to do squat and now our basement is flooded so my sole purpose in life is to vacuum. I wonder how many calories are burned vacuuming up water????
We have been eating terribly because the kitchen is a hot mess of hoses and cords and tools etc......today was the first time we ate a home meal but it was beef tips and egg noodles, not exactly healthy.

sorry, ignore the rantings of the crazy lady stuck in the dungeons. LOL

 to you!! Relax a little bit about the eating plan and exercise for now. Take the time to get your life back to normal and get the house cleaned up. THEN you can start fresh.... maybe on Monday?

Meanwhile I will offer this little suggestion. When life is feeling out of control, sometimes it makes you feel better to stay in control of one portion of it. You can't control the floods or the damage they are doing. But you CAN control your reactions to them. Eating badly is probably only going to compound the stress and "out of control" feeling that life probably has thrown at you right now. You may be in a better place mentally to tackle the flooding basement if you are in control of other things in life.... like healthy eating and exercise. You don't have to be fanatic about it, but little things like not eating a half gallon of ice cream to soothe yourself in the evening after a long day of sucking up water with the wet/dry vac is a good place to start (not suggesting that you did that...but probably what I would want to do!)

And YES, vacumming is exercise... as is the lugging of buckets of water to EMPTY the vacuum, as I am sure you are doing! :flower3: Hope your Easter weekend sees things dryer for you!

Hey guys, first time here so im just wondering if this will be starting again after May 14th? I love the show and would love to get in on this!

Welcome! It would be great to have you join us right now!

As for working out, I have been thinking about this too. You see, I have a good friend who works out regularly and has done it consistently far longer than I have. BUT she hates what she is doing! She constantly posts to facebook about not wanting to do the treadmill or how much she's dreading lifting weights. And I just want to shake her and say "Go find something more FUN then, for goodness sake!!" She's not interested - she'd rather complain and then do the workouts she's always done and is sick of.

I actually like working out - it can be challenging, but it can also be fun. I love to run outdoors, and when I run indoors, I listen to the right music and just daydream the time away. I love spin class and bodypump, and when the schedule becomes such that I don't make it, well, it is disappointing to miss out. I have gotten tired of running the same loop or doing the same DVD's and THAT is when the toddler tends to come out and say "I don't wanna." Just like with my kids, if there's too much fuss coming from my inner toddler, I look at the situation and see if it is a sign that something needs to change.

OH my GOSH.... I am your friend! I am HATING the running I started a few months ago. I dread it and keep making excuses to not get out there. I am BORED with my trips to the Y (but I still like the circuit class). I find that I am having to really FORCE myself to get in my 60 minutes per day. I keep thinking that maybe tennis lessons or a kick boxing class would be fun.... unfortunately the tennis at the Y is very expensive and they don't offer any kick boxing (but I have played around with the idea of buying a heavy bag to have here at home). I KNOW that my boredom and dread will eventually sabotage my workouts.... I will start shortening them and/or skipping them all together. So I KNOW that I need to make a change. Just not sure what it will be.

Well... Happy Friday morning friends! I am FRUSTRATED to say that I am feeling nice and slim this morning and ready for a great weigh-in.... but my STUPID SCALE decided to call it quits. In a funny coincidence, the weight it gave me this morning was exactly the weight I started this journey on over two years ago! I had a split second where I thought that the last two years were a dream and I never REALLY lost the weight. I had to take a quick glance in the mirror to make sure that I wasn't back to 219 lb. again!

I changed the battery and did whatever I could to kind of "reset" the scale, but it just keeps telling me 219. I had DD step on it and it told her she was over 200 lb also. I will be buying a new scale tonight and will do my weigh-in tomorrow. Good thing I was saving my splurge for Sunday!

DH stopped at Costco last night so there is plenty of nice fresh fruit in the house. I can't wait to make a fruit salad to go with dinner tonight. And the fact that he went to Costco without the rest of us meant that he spent less and we didn't all have the temptation of the food court!!

I STILL don't know what I am supposed to make for Easter dinner. I am NOT making pineapple angel food cake though. I have made that at least THREE times for DH's family and NO ONE ever eats it but me! I guess there are too many other delicious FATTENING desserts... so who wants something (reasonably) healthy?

I offered to make the salad this time because although another SIL makes FABULOUS salads, they aren't super low fat... she is a super health nut (and super skinny) and tops her salad with lots of healthy-but-fattening things like nuts, Craisins, goat cheese, and dressing with plenty of EVOO. YUMMMY... but not exactly the light salad I am looking for on these holidays! Anyhow, when I sent my email reply that I would make salad, I didn't hit "reply all" and hosting DSIL is the only one who got it. About three other people also offered to make salad, so I'm not sure who she is expecting to make it. I'll have to call today and ask. Plus I offered to make a dessert (not the angel food cake!!) and I don't know what she is already planning on having. And I HATE cooking/baking, so I'd love to do something SUPER easy... so I need a bit of time to think!

I am home alone today:yay: so I will be spending some time at the scrapbook table, of course! But I also need to fold a load of laundry (already did one, but have another one waiting) and get some vacumming done. But will still have plenty of time for the scrapping table!

I hope EVERYONE is seeing great numbers on the scale this morning!! I know we are all working hard at it!.....................P

Good morning all!

Well, I have a gain this week which I had expected and deserved after last weekend and this week of stress! I did just finish the 3 mile Slim and Sleek WATP! I really think that is my favorite and it goes by so fast! I hope to do more later today.

Busy day today: pick up paycheck, take DD1 for cleaning at the dentist and then go shopping and see the Easter bunny. I need to decide what else to have with out Easter dinner. We are having lamb and ham. I'll probably make some honey glazed carrots and crescent rolls and probably some potatoes. Gonna get some fish for supper. Not sure what kind. It may just be fish fillets. I would love to find some swordfish that we can do on the GF grill. We haven't had time or the weather to put together our new grill yet.

Slept well again last night. I think getting back into working out is helping. I got about 7 hours or a little more. It was nice to sleep in. I woke up at 6 but only got up to use the bathroom and then got back in the bed until 7:15.

Beautiful day here today: 70s for the next 4 days! We totally deserve it after all the lousy weather! Hope everyone is drying out and has time to enjoy the outdoors this weekend. The girls and I also need to pick up more twigs in the yard today.

Keep those responses coming! I'm trying to come up with some good questions for the rest of the week!

Thank you princessbride6205 for being our coach last week! And a BIG, BIG welcome to our new coach, tigger813! Thanks for coaching the week after the big flood! :goodvibes

Congrats to all of the COW participants! :thumbsup2 It is nice to see some new names on the list. :goodvibes Remember you don't have to do the whole COW -- if 4 items seems too much then just pick one and try it. The COW helps you to build healthy habits and it is a lot of fun!

Please be sure and PM those weights to LuvBaloo and COW numbers to donac today.

pjlla, somewhere near you a kid is tweeting about his sub doing kickbacks at lunch this week! ;)

I think a BL recipe thread would be great. I think we have to put it in the Eating Healthy section of the WISH boards. I don't have any recipes to share now but if the first person who does could please start the thread that would be super. Then we just have to remember to post there every couple of weeks to keep the thread alive! :cool2:

She also wants to lay on the couch and read a book.

That sounds like my idea of a great Sunday afternoon!

Oops. Meant to start this in a new thread on the WISH Board. That's what I get for doing this on my iPhone!

I am very impressed that you can post a big thread with links even on your iPhone! :thumbsup2

It is interesting to see how the USDA works. I don't think that it is any different that any political agency that gets lobbied by everyone wanting to sell their stuff, healthy or not, to the unsuspecting public.

QOTD FRIDAY APRIL 2: With Easter and Passover upon us, what is your favorite holiday treat? This treat can be from any holiday not just Easter and Passover!

I would have to say my favorite holiday treat is the old Rhodes white rolls with a little butter -- the frozen ones that have to rise and smell so good baking. I know, I know! Talk about white carbs with fat but they are tasty and we only have them for holiday meals.

LOL

, Buffy. Hope that you get out of the dungeon soon. We'll be happy to pull you back in the wagon as many times as you need it. Always lots of room in the wagon! :thumbsup2

Hey guys, first time here so im just wondering if this will be starting again after May 14th? I love the show and would love to get in on this!

:welcome: Nicole! Thanks for joining our challenge! tigger813 did a great job of welcoming you and giving you the scoop. If you have any questions, just let us know!

We are discussing whether we need to revise the ending date of the challenge again since we finally know when BL 9 the show is ending. We are also talking about the summer challenge, dates, etc. When we really get to the planning stages for the next challenge I will post a poll thread so you can chime in on what you would like to see in the next challenge.

corinnak, when you were talking about scenic painting earlier this week I thought "Hmmm, has she taken up painting?" I didn't realize it was for a play! :rotfl2: What play is it and what kind of scenery are you painting?

Terrible headache this morning. Must be from being out in the sun all day yesterday with my kiddos. I felt slightly dehydrated when we left the park, too. My appt. with the oral surgeon is this am, so it could be anxiety. I am kind of freaking out! It's just a consult, don't know why I am stressing so badly!

Friday QOTD: I can't really think of one. Cheese balls maybe? We only have those on holidays. Maybe a European holiday, aka vacation, is frozen lemonade at WDW when it's HOT! ;)

I AM NO LONGER OBESE! I finally am in the overweight range according to wii fit! I am down 2 pounds from last Friday, but down 5 from Monday after my Sunday "eat everything in sight binge!" Going to run this morning after my appt, and then we're taking the girls to the zoo tomorrow, so I'll get that exercise in!

Yay for a new BMI category on the Wii Fit! :cool1: Hope that you feel better soon.

Have a great day everyone!

pjlla, I think this might be a sign from someone about your relationship with that old scale! :littleangel:

Somehow I missed this a bit ago....

4/2 Friday QOTD: With Easter and Passover upon us, what is your favorite holiday treat? This treat can be from any holiday not just Easter and Passover!

Well... I will be missing it this year as I am not getting together with my side of the family for Easter. But onion casserole has to be my number one holiday treat. We only have it at Thanksgiving and Easter. It is not difficult to make or anything, but I NEVER make it. I only eat it when DCousin makes it at the holidays. That way it stays "special".

Also, one of my SIL's (I have several) has made homemade pumpkin ravioli at Thanksgiving the past few years.... HOLY COW that stuff is FANTABULOUS! It was supposed to be a starter this year, but I skipped the turkey and potatoes to have a second helping of the ravioli.

I like sweets, of course, but I've always been a person who craves "real" food above desserts........................P

4/2 Friday QOTD: With Easter and Passover upon us, what is your favorite holiday treat? This treat can be from any holiday not just Easter and Passover!

Hmm. I probably have a favorite treat for each holiday! :rotfl2: I'm going to say my favorite Easter treat is Cadbury Caramel Eggs. These are like the worst things on the planet you can eat, and I love them. I've bought myself exactly 1 this year. I plan to eat it on Easter. The Bunny may bring me some mini caramel ones, or the Bunny may bring me nothing. One never knows :rolleyes1

Welcome to our new member!

It has been such an odd week for me. I've been sick a couple of days, but kept up with my workouts. I was eating really well, then I had an accident with some twizzlers last night...my house is a mess (my grandmother is rolling in her grave, I think generations of our family have been told the house has to be clean for Easter), the great flood has finally stopped :yay: I started a new big project at work. It's just been a weird week. I've got great motivation to keep going with BL, now I just need to do it. On the bright side, I did lose 8 lbs last month overall, which makes me very happy! I think that's the best I've done, ever. I am committed to losing another five for April. :cheer2:

Thanks to our outgoing and incoming coaches, you are doing a great job and it is really appreciated! :lovestruc

pjlla, I think this might be a sign from someone about your relationship with that old scale! :littleangel:

:lmao: I suppose you could be right! I'm mostly ticked off because it was a fairly expensive scale and I've had it only about 16 months! I am going to take it with me to BB&B tonight to see if they will exchange it for a new one, but since I have no receipt and no packaging and I bought it so long ago, I am not holding out much hope. If I wasn't so anxious for a new one quickly, I would take the time to write to the company and see if they would send me a new one. I am going to look around and see if I kept any warranty paperwork or anything like that..................P

Pamela- this is the best advice and has helped me through so many tough times in the past year. I still think of that now, and with easter, mothers day and the anniversary of when my mom got sick just around the corner, I think of this often. I think I am focusing on the c25k in order to keep my focus over the next few months. I actually ran 1.5 miles straight today!! I will deal with the emotions that crop up, but I am determined not to react to them by eating my way through this time. Thank you again for such great advice.

So sorry. hang in there, take care of yourself and your family, and when the basement situation is under control again, then you can focus on losing again. We're always here to listen.

Well, i'm babysitting my sisters kids for a bit this morning, and am on my nephews laptop, which i'm not used to, and it took me forever to edit those quotes, so I must stop there. I guess I should say, Michael is babysitting, while I'm on the computer.:lmao:

Thurs qotd- I try to always take the stairs, and get out after work to play with my son after work.

friday- easter my mom always made million dollar torte, a cake, creamcheese pudding, pineapple, whip cream dish that is so good. I remember last easter going to ww, and the week before easter they talked about only sitting down to eat, and eating slowly and really tasting the food. I'm going to make the torte this easter and we are going to my sisters house. she's was like, are you sure you know how to make it, so i reassured her that i've made it many times for other functions, but i'd better get it right. I'm sure we'll share some laughs and tears this sunday. The rolls often get forgotten and burnt on holidays in our family, and we laugh about that.

Hope everyone was happy with their numbers on the scale today, and if not, don't give up, hang in there.

The kids just went out, so i guess I need to go. Have a great day.

Sorry to hear about the tragic "Twizzler" accident... I hope no one was injured~!!;)

Eight pounds last month is TERRIFIC! Glad to see you are feeling encouraged by that great number!

I think it is great that you know EXACTLY what kind of treat you want for Easter and you are planning for it.

I am going to commit TODAY to write down my eating/exercise plan for Easter Sunday and then STICK TO IT! I did it for last Thanksgiving and it worked GREAT!! I even kept the note in my pocket and referred to it during the day to help keep me on track. I need to do that again for this Sunday. And as sad as I am that I am not going to be with my extended family on Saturday (probably my first Easter weekend without them in many, many years) I am GLAD that I won't have two big holiday meals to contend with this weekend. See... every cloud does have a silver lining!!...............P

I'm sure that the torte will be terrific! And I'm glad that you have something you can all laugh about! Take the time to share some stories about your Mom... make sure the kids are involved too. I'm sure you will be missing your Mom this Easter, but she will definitely be there in your hearts!

(BTW, we always laugh about how my MIL always makes too many baked potatoes... doesn't sound funny here, but has become an ongoing family joke. I'm sure we will laugh about it when she is gone too!).................P

Good morning Biggest Losers!! So glad that we are all still here together on this weigh-in morning.
I am only down .5 lbs this week - and am so very glad that March is over--down 3.5 lbs for the past month. On the bright side - I'm down 30.5 lbs for the year :) Wahoo!!! :cool1:

This week I'm committing to at least post to QOTD every day... instead of just lurk like I have been doing - so

4/2 Friday QOTD: With Easter and Passover upon us, what is your favorite holiday treat? This treat can be from any holiday not just Easter and Passover!

I LOVE my BILs rolls that he makes for any holiday--smothered in butter.
For Easter I really like the little malted robin eggs (not the big ones as much) and the really tasty starburst flavored jelly beans. But to help keep control--none of those in the house this year :thumbsup2
Am trying to overhaul my traditional holiday recipes to include more fresh veggies, less canned stuff... and pick good quality 'treats' that we will portion out. My favorite cake is angel food and since strawberries are on sale this week we got tons of strawberries to go on a little bit of angel food. Haven't decided yet if I am going to spend the calories on real whipped cream or not... will decide today (leaning more toward probably not).

I hope that all of your weigh-ins are peaceful and not surprising. Best of luck as we begin a new week--may yours be filled with lots of good times, good and healthy foods, good exercise and good memories--especially if you celebrate Easter. It's spring and a time for renewal and new beginnings. Enjoy watching things grow as you shrink ;)

:) Liz

Thanks for the lovely Easter sentiments!

Well... I've done part of the housework and got in 60 minutes of exercise. I'm opening some windows to air out this stale house~! I can't BELIEVE it is supposed to be near 80 today and tomorrow! WOOHOO! Time to pull out the shorts! Actually I need to try them on to see if I need to replace any before my May trip. I am actually not down much weight from the end of last summer ( :headache: ), so they will probably be just fine.

I'm gonna run the vac around and head to the scrapping table!...............P

I like your attitude about the silver lining. ;) You've got a great plan for Sunday. I know I always like to get in a good workout in the morning before some holiday eating.

What a great quote! I was just thinking this morning how the environment feels different today. Even though it's gloomy here, I can feel spring in my bones. :upsidedow

As for me:
I have reached Goal. WAHOO!!!!!! :dance3: :yay: :woohoo:
After weeks (months?) of chipping away at the last few pounds just a few tenths at a time, I had a relatively big loss this week and overshot my goal by almost a pound. I know it's only a little under, but I'm already concerned about maintaining a number that may be just a little too low. Is it weird to be trying to maintain a number a pound higher than I am today? I have to get back to the day job, but I'll be back later to post some before and after pics. :thumbsup2

Lisa & Shannon - please move me to the maintainer team. :cloud9:

Looking forward to the before/after pics--thanks for the inspiration!!

:cheer2: CONGRATULATIONS!! party: What a way to celebrate Easter and Spring! You must be SO excited! Way To go!!! .........P

Well went to ww this morning and had a gain of 0.2. I'm okay with it, to me that's basically maintaining for the week. I made a lot of changes to my diet this week. I cut out artificial sweeteners and increased my milks. I stayed within my points but used all my extra 35 plus my workout points. I know for me to lose I have to use only half the 35 and no workout points. Next week will be better.

I had a gain of .4 this week. My scale went up .4 last Sunday and hasn't budged since. I haven't been eating well this week. I am proud to say I've still tracked all my foods, but we ate out quite a bit this week and some foods at restuarants (like the bistro down the street with the arugula, goat cheese, truffle oil pizza) are really hard to calucuate. At least I only ate two slices. The funny thing is, even though I ate over my allotted calories every day, my calorie range is set for losing two pounds a week. I ate over by about 3500 over for the week, so that should have set me up for losing a pound, not gaining a 1/2 pound. I may have miscalculated the calories or the restuarant foods may have saturated me with salt. I've been BAD about drinking my water this week. Coffee, I've had that in abundance. Water, not so much.

The part I'm most bummed about? I lost my 30 pound clippie. I'm at 218.2 and I need to be at 218 to have that clippie. I made my own personal deal with myself that even if I weigh in every day (which I have been), my Friday morning weigh in would be my official weigh in day. That gives me less angst when the scale bounces a little during the week or doesn't budge at all. And I also decided that my clippies would go along with the Friday morning weigh ins.

I really want to keep dropping weight before our trip to Monterey in July. If it weren't for that, I almost would think that it might be a good time to adjust and just maintain for a month while I get used to having dropped the weight I have so far. But I miss that good feeling of having the excitement of a Friday morning loss.

Congrats princessbride6205!!!!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Sounds like everyone is having a pretty good day and is excited about the holiday this weekend! It's 72 degrees and the girls and I had a good time shopping though it was too packed to see the Easter bunny and the grocery store had no parking places. So we went to Trader Joe's instead. I love that store!

Time to head out and work on the yard for a bit with the girls. DD1 bought a new game for her DSi. Got her the Chipmunk movie for her basket and a leapster game for DD2 as I couldn't find the Barbie movie at Target. I'll get it for her later this week. Got DH a Star Wars Trouble game that we can all have fun playing! I want to get the Star Wars Guess Who game for DD1 for her birthday!

Bought some swordfish to grill for supper. It may have to be on the GF but that's ok. DD1 even wanted swordfish for supper!

Ok, enough procrastinating!

oops, it only took me 20 pages til it donned on me that I wasn't getting updates.

LOL

 It happens. I agree that getting rid of that flood water is burning calories up!

Princessbride - woo hoo!!! Congrats!

I have a major nasty cold, head and chest. Thanks to dd for sharing.:rotfl: I just got out of bed today and am going to fold clothes, walk around the block, make dinner and get back in bed. :) At least I was scheduled off work today.
