My DD threw something at DS :duck: and missed hitting the 57" big screen tv and cracking the plastic that protects the screen.:happytv: I called our local service place this AM and they said that to replace it will cost $400-500:lmao: .
They said we can take the cover off and watch it that way but I'd hate to leave the actual screen vulnerable.

Anyone have any experience in this area? Ever tried to "make your own"? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks.

Kids, aren't they cute!!!:)

In our old tv, there was a chip in the glass but "nobody" did it. Mr. Nobody comes to our house alot, but I never see him.

It is a Hitachi 57f59 projection tv. (with cracked screen and crying DH in front of it)

I would buy the new screen cover at $400-500 and know that your tv is safe (relatively speaking). With kids it could easily happen again and you would hate to have to replace your tv and spend a couple grand because you didn't take care of it properly now.

Unless your tv is really getting old, then it might be worth replacing it rather than investing more money into it.

Good luck.

Try Craigslist in your area or ebay for an older/broken model. You may be able to find something way cheaper that will adequately cover it.

I looked this weekend and a new TV, exact same model is around $900 give or take. So I'm spending "almost" as much for a cover for the one I have. That hurts. I know it's probably the smart thing to do but there must be a more economical solution.....

This is a good idea because it appears on that model that it's more than just a piece of plain plastic. There might be one out there where the CRT went bad and there isn't anything wrong with the outer screen. In the past I've seen people advertise those as free as long as you take it off their hands and dispose of the rest.

Bumping for more great advice please.

Would by chance your homeowners insurance cover it?

Hope it works out and good luck in getting it repaired. :goodvibes

He is at my house all the time! He is always leaving cheerios on the floor.

If the t.v. is a couple of years old, I would probably just threaten my kids and leave it. After an appropriate consequence, I think that they can learn a lesson and they will probably think twice about getting rowdy near the t.v. again!

Another idea is to sell the tv as is on Craigslist or eBay, explaining how it is in great condition but the plastic cover is cracked & the tv needs to go to a home without kids. Since a new tv is only about $300 more than the cover, you can then use the money you get from the tv towards buying a new one with a cover.

Remember, this will probably be cheaper in the long run than when the kids throw something at the tv again, completely breaking it. You will then be out $900 vs. $300-$400.
