I need to share with someone or else I'm scared I'll accidentally blurt it out. :woohoo::lovestruc

So after months of looking I finally found the perfect engagement ring for my DGF. I'm taking the night to think about it then going in tomorrow to buy it!

Any last minute tips? I've never purchased expensive jewelry before so this is all new to me.

Congratulations! Please post pics when you have it.

Now you have to plan 'the perfect proposal.' I hope that doesn't take another 6 months, lol! Congratulations!!! Yeah, get it insured and hide everything really well.

When you gonna ask her? You got somethin' special planned out? You gonna tell us all about it?

Congrats!! There is a formula for knowing how much to spend on an engagement ring it was two months salary but I think its more important that it is a ring that you both love. My niece just got engaged in Feb and she always loved saphires so her fiancee got her a ring similar to Princess Di's ring and she loves it. My other niece's husband had 2 diamonds left to him from his Grandmother so he took those two stones and had a pretty ring made using those stones. My niece loves it because of its history and her husband's thoughtfulness. Its not about the ring but your love. Best of Luck and again Congrats !!!!!!!!!!

Best of Luck and Congratulations! Hope she is Just as thrilled as you are, so exciting!!! Post a pix of you all with the ring.........Pixie Dust your way...

Congratulations! The only tip I have is to ask the place you're purchasing from for an appraisal document also. That should help with getting the ring insured.

The only tip I can think of is ring size, if you do not know it maybe she has a ring she wears you could discreetly bring in with you. I remember being on a beach vacation and this poor girl had just gotten engaged and she had gone for a swim and the ring slipped off. She found it with a metal detector, thank god.

I got that part all planned actually. The ring was the only part missing. We are going to WDW for a week in August. On one of our last nights of the trip we will spend a relax day at TL or BB. At night we have ADR at Narcoossee's before the Wishes Fireworks. The goal is to be done before the fireworks and then head over to the Poly beach, catch the fireworks and propose there.

But I'm pretty easy going and if anything happens that dinner is late or early or that she doesn't want to go towards the beach then we can always head to MK for EMH. She did mention that it would be romantic near the castle. I pretended not to hear :rolleyes1

The Poly beach is a special place for me and my fiance. So, I'm a little biased when I say I love that idea! :lovestruc

Congratulations. However you do it, it sounds like you're ready and you sound happy. Make sure you save this thread and show it to her after you guys get back home!

Great idea to have a back up plan, sounds like you're a romantic too, she's gonna love it. I wish you the very best! :goodvibes

My advice is when you make your final purchase decision don't look back. Don't try to compare what you should have done or how X style/place/person/hookup could have gotten it for you for less or been better. Even if you overpay just live in the moment and don't care about what coulda, woulda, shoulda! It's an awesome thing and it's an awesome time.

How romantic!!!!!!! We loved the fireworks from the Poly Beach!

Nice idea for the proposal.:love::lovestruc
Get the ring appraised and get it insured.

Congratulations!!! I wish you many years of happiness.

Make sure you are buying for a reputable place. They should offer a Full Refund, not exchange only. They should offer 30 to 100 days quality garrentee also the same length of time for the return.

If you are giving it to her in August I would buy it in July. A good store will offer layaway until then.

Sizing takes on average 10 business days if they don't do it in store.

If they say they do work "in store" and are located in a mall, question it. Due to regulations they can not work with the chemicals in a mall.

They should warrenty the diamond as well, against loss of the diamond from the ring.

White gold rings need a lifetime maintance plan that offers Rhodium/Sizing/Clean and Polish. White gold will "yellow" over time but can be fixed.

Yellow gold need need a lifetime maintance plan that offers Sizing/Clean and Polish.

Platinum needs the least amount of maintance but tends to look the worse over time. It needs need a lifetime maintance plan that offers Rhodium/Sizing/Clean and Polish. Gold can be brought back to new. Platinum can not.

A good quality solitaire will have the diamond set in platinum, with a gold band (yellow or white) of at least 14k.

Thanks for the tips. It is a reputable store. I haven't decided between layaway or store credit card (They offer 9 months no interest no payments)

Do Layaway until July, then pick it up and pay with the store credit card. They may hassle you about doing the card right now. That way the salesperson gets there commish now instead of later.

They also have a quota for credit cards so don't be afraid to apply for the card now. Put it on layaway, have to use cash/debit/or another credit card for that, should be 10% down. In July do the no payments etc. There may be a charge for the no payment plan. $5 is reasonable for 3 months, $35 charge for 6months or longer.
