Beware of Very Cold Lazy River

I
WTH? SOMEBODY maintains those pools. Those people have supervisors. Those supervisors report to hotel management. How is it that no one knows?

This whole thing is insane. Find a maintenance worker...ask them.
The pool lead wasn’t too sure either. He needed to elevate it. Asked him if that was the corporate answer? Then told him I am a former CM so I understand the the approach but I appreciate as alot of people do a no nonsense answer if it is broke it’s broke.

And to be honest it is not miserable but then again I live in a place it was -40 F a few weeks ago so an ice bath would feel refreshing.

Got an answer! Lead just called me. He talked to upper management in the Engineering Department. THERE IS an issue with the pool temps and they are “actively” working the issue. No timeline on fix. No explanation of what exactly the issue is. He did apologize and offered to do something to make it right I told him nothing is needed I told him feedback for the uppers is to be honest with the guests. The lack of straight answer is frustrating and we as Aulani owning DVC members and cash guest deserve honesty even if Disney is not meeting expectations. He did say Aulani did take any reference to pool temps down per the management. I assume to cover themselves. He did ask for my room number probably going to get kicked out now 🤣.
I HOPE that finally answers some questions and I hope you all have a great week. Time to go full Maui into the tube slide.

Well, now we know. I'm guessing you'll come back to a nice fruit basket in your room and a note from the general manager about how sorry they are, blah blah blah.

They really do need to be upfront about the pool situation at check in and offer a small token as an apology, like a coupon for a free Dole Whip or something. It would go a long way towards guest satisfaction.

Those temps are unacceptable in the winter, even in Hawaii. I live in Southern CA in a neighborhood with 4 heated salt water pools. When they cannot maintain them at 82 or above in the winter, due to either excessive cold weather/rain or an equipment malfunction, they CLOSE THEM and let residents know when they will be reopened.

I would take a contract with enough points for Grand Villa for a week a year 🤣 I agree at least something small

Yes exactly, how nice that Aulani took down the reference to normal pool temps instead of being up front but I guess they aren't very well going to be advertising that they can't meet the expectations of guests.

I reiterated several times how it looks to people who have spent 10s of thousands of dollars and more on DVC and $900 a night on a room. Hopefully it was finally the oh crap moment. But probably not

One of our pools just reopened after the heating pump broke. Total repair time: 4 days.

If Disney wanted to fix this quickly, they would.

Does anyone have any conformation regarding the lazy river being down for refurbishment in early Feb? I‘ve received emails about the slide being down through Feb. 3, and something about filming on the beach a week later.

Just called guest services seems to be middle of march after the tube slide comes back. They told me they sent an email about the dark slide being down which I never received. Was creating 20+ minute waits for the tube slide today.

Wait what?? The lazy river will be closed mid March??? Spring break ?!
When I just called they didn’t seem to have an exact date. When I checked in they told me as soon as the slide/volcano refurbishment was done. So maybe it is dynamic depending if the slide refurb goes long. Or seems such a lack of communication between cast members at this small resort compared to other Disney operations.

Ohhh I am going to be so so upset if the entire lazy river is closed while we are there. Ugh.

I’m positive that when this debate started in a social media group it said on the website that all pools were heated to 82-86 degrees (that number may be off). That verbiage is now gone. Someone also brought a pool thermometer and it showed the lazy river was like 72 degrees.

edit…. Haha! Kept reading and saw this was already discussed and confirmed. Carry on!

Good work! I’m the OP and you have confirmed what I was told after multiple post trip inquiries (after no success while at Aulani). However, Per my earlier post (Jan 5th), I was told that the problem had been fixed which clearly is not the case. The confusion and lack of accurate / honest answers seems to continue. It really shouldn’t be this difficult to find out what is going on…bizarre really.
