Beware Disney World License Plate Frame

Our problem isn't that the numbers are being covered. A small part of the words garden state are covered BUT you can still read it.

Yeah, that's a little bit ridiculous. If you can still see the number/letters and see that it says New Jersey, why would they care if you can still see the motto/nickname, etc. Sunshine state, Keystone state, Golden state, whatever. :confused3

eta: Here it is: You can't cover any letters or numbers.

I guess the consider garden state letters :(

New Hampshire plates have the words "Live free or die" on them. Some years ago a few folks did not like to display that phrase and, not having a Disney frame with a metal ribbon, used duct tape to cover up the phrase. They were ticketed and fined.

I could just as well see more violations for "obstructed view of license plate" by such things as trailer hitches, bike racks, tinted covers, and emblems.

True. A moving violation would cost much more plus add points to your driving record, causing a rise in insurance premium. Compared to what it could have been, $54 isn't so bad. Still a bummer though.

Actually, the NJ ticket won't add points to your PA driver's license, so therefore won't cause a rise in your insurance premium (personal experience...yep, there I've admitted it - I've received a ticket for a moving violation). However, the $54 fine is probably less than the moving violation would have been.

Alabama had a lot of people covering the "Heart of Dixie" on the plates. Made the state a lot of money in fines.

I don't understand why people would be so bothered to have that on their tag. Same with Live free or die. If that's been their motto for 200 yrs, it's no biggie to me. :confused3

Yeah, it's illegal here in NY, but I just don't care. :confused3

I was pulled over for (not) speeding back at Thanksgiving, and there was no mention of the fact that you can't see "Empire State" on the bottom of my plate. I figure if I get to the point that I care, I'll just switch it to the front, since they can hardly see that plate anyway when I fly by them ;)

yes you are very lucky. in NJ if you do not get something like that and receive a moving violation they let you go to the prosecutor at court and plea down to non moving, for i think at least 300-400.

NJ also has other laws against things like tinted windows and other car modifications. i knew someone who got a small ticket for having an obstructed windshield for a giant air freshner hanging on their rearview mirror. again she got off cheap b/c they pulled over for something bigger but its really amazing they can find a law to ban car decorations.:drive:

DS actually got a ticket for that! I was so angry. They are out to get the teenage drivers by us. He didn't stop at the stop sign on an ice cream truck (which there is no law against). The officer didn't give him a ticket for that but did give him a ticket for his license plate frame. It is a moneymaker around here.

Also in NJ, you can get a ticket for having a air freshener thingy hanging from your rear view mirror.

The license plate thing is insane. I could see MAYBE an issue if the New Jersey part is covered, maybe. But covering "Garden State"?? But I was aware of this happening, they do it here at the shore too.

I think we have more laws against everything than the entire other 49 states combined. :sad2: Our lawmakers sure are busy, busy busy....

Oh and I checked my rear plate when I ran an errand earlier. Not only is the Garden State covered but more than half of the New Jersey letters are covered too. I would have taken it off but I have an awful cold and it's freezing out! :cold:

Sounds like a springtime project. I wish we had only a rear plate like PA does. Then I could put on ds's Castaway Cay license plate. We probably had only one plate at some point, til they passed a law banning that too. :lmao:

Indiana has only the rear plate..but over 100 styles of it!

Colts. Pacers, Speedway, Black Expo, Masons, Kids first, firefighters, nurses, state troopers, DARE, the zoo, pets, children's hospitals, turkeys, ducks, Abe Lincoln, the arts, homeland security, sheriffs, blood, ,..every college/university in the state. For $25plus (on top of regular fees) you can sport almost anything your heart desires.

I don't even know what the basic state plate looks like..everywhere you look there are specialty plates on cars.

.

The air freshener, or anything hanging from the rear view mirror is illegal in several states. It can obstruct your view. That is why all handicap placards say not to keep them hanging while driving. They are for parking only.

I had an older Disney license plate frame (I live in Texas)... I don't think it covered anything, but it wouldn't matter anyway because for some reason while I was gone one weekend my husband somehow managed to break it in half (while it was on my car). So I no longer have one, and haven't found one I have liked to replace it. Now I am wondering if I should even bother to replace it if you can get fined for it blocking out part of your license plate!

In Texas, the cover cannot interfere with readability of letters or numbers or the name of the state (here's more: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/tlodocs/80R/billtext/pdf/SB00369F.pdf )

I could just as well see more violations for "obstructed view of license plate" by such things as trailer hitches, bike racks, tinted covers, and emblems.

At least for Texas, the law provides exceptions for properly attached trailer hitches, trailers, bike racks, wheelchair carrier.

Is it not possible to petition the Governor of applicable states to have them modify their states plates to conform to the shape of Disney license plate frames? :rotfl2: ...Just saying...:lmao:

::yes::

For any states that don't require the front and back plates, you can use it on the front (FL is one)

I got the same ticket for having the license plate holder from the car dealership. I bought the car in the same state I got the ticket in, so I was really ticked off that the car came with an accessory that got me a ticket!

I'd have gone to the dealer and tell THEM to pay the fine!!
