Are the airlines going to step up will better beverage service? I use bottle water to sip during take of to prevent very painful ears. I have chronic sinus problems and have to sip on something most of the time or I choke. Will the airlines provide water up on boarding the plane?

I doubt it. It is going to take some time for the airlines to decide what they are going to do now with the restrictions. They will also have to work with the caterer since they will need to change what they stock the planes with.

I understand what you are saying, disneyfan. My ears bother me during takeoff and landing, too, especially when my sinuses are congested. I use earplanes, take an antihistimine and decongestant shortly before boarding, use my allergy nasal spray, chew gum or eat sticky candy like caramels, and drink water. So I'm a little concerned about not having my bottle of water with me but getting there safely is much more important. We're not flying until the end of October so hopefully, the TSA and the airlines, will have addressed this issue. If not, I'll manage as I'm not giving up my trip to WDW!

How hard is it to get cases of water to pass out to the customers? I know they have more important matters to address than water - but still, they can secure a couple of cases of water for the flights..

and of course the bad guys will figure this part out to, and infiltrate the caterers, the truck companies etc etc

and yes, I'm all for being inconvenienced to stop the terrorists...

I am sure it isn't as simple as just getting some cases of water. The other thing is do the airlines want to put more water on the planes? That is extra weight and cost the airlines might not want to deal with.

Do you want to pay extra for the water on the plane? What is a reasonable price?

Safetymom--that is exactly what DH and I were talking about last night. "So how much do you think NWA will start charging for a bottle of water on their flights?" Not like the airport vendors were charging enough already. Oh well. I have no prob with the new measures but I have to admit to being rather bummed about my water!

This is my problem, too. I want my bottle of wtaer, LOL.

I tend to cough in that dry cabin air.

herc.

I agree with Safetymom. Passengers talk a good game, but they're very bad about putting their money where their mouths are.

In general, consumers "want", but they're really bad about rewarding companies that charge more for a better product.

I have to drink a lot of water to prevent acid reflux from flaring up, and for my medication. It will cause discomfort for me to not have my water at hand. But I can deal with it if it will keep my family safe. And to answer your question, I'd pay $5 for water if I had to, since our flight to WDW is 5 hours. There is no way I could go that long without my water.

Let's try to remember that the ban on liquids is an attempt to try to make us safe.

So are they not serving anything at this time? I would be perfectly willing to pay and extra 5-10.00 per person for water. Don't need soda or sparkling water just plain old H2O. We'll be flying in late December but I don't count on things being much different. We'll just pay for an extra piece of checked luggage and do away with all carry on but a small personal item. Maybe the airlines will allow 3 instead of 2 if it cuts down on delays with security lines and security at the gates.

I would think and hope that if you asked when you walked in or while you where seated that they would give it to you.

Have you tried lollipops....that's what my son has, the jolly rancher kind is yummy. :teeth: Due to the braces no gum.

No, I think its the feeling of being "ripped off" or paying more for a bottle of water - - to increase the airlines bottom line, or increase the airline's ceo's retirement plan - that is what I object to!

(eta - this feeling stems from the billions the oil companies are making, where as in contrast the airlines are declaring bankruptcy right and left)

Safetymom, I totally understand what you are saying about weight issues, that is what they are currently struggling with, as so many are checking more luggage, so the cargo holds are going to capacity someone said early this am on msnbc... but the planes overhead bins are roomier!! BUT if you figure all of us passengers USED to each bring on the equivelant weight - ie water, juice...

oh well, bottom line, we stand united against terrorists, and I will gladly sacrifice this inconvenience - -

They are still serving beverages on the plane. They have never charged for water, soft drinks or juice, so, I doubt that will change.
The major gripe here is that you cannot carry the water on with you. The major concern is that they will not serve the water immediately upon being seated. Which I do doubt will happen. The FAs are preparing for take off, I doubt they will have time for beverage service.

Why do you object to capitalism? A "rip off" unequivocally implies theft. Capitalism isn't theft. It's our national economic perspective. If you have a problem with it, you're going to be repeatedly disappointed with what you encounter in life, over and over again.

My wife and i are keeping a very close eye on our retirement portfolio. We don't see it growing quite fast enough to keep us from the soup kitchens in our old age. I don't see a problem with the companies, which we invest our hard earned income in, conscientiously working to help us afford to live our golden years in comfort.

Have you tried Halls Fruit Breezers? They are a pectin throat drop. Pectin is an oral demulcent which is is meant to relieve the irritation of an inflamed mucous membrane. They do a good job of keeping my throat from drying out. They are in a hard candy form like cough drops so they would be allowed on a plane in the US under the current rules.

I dont need water, but my dd does need her milk. She is 3 1/2 and we are going to Disney next month. She is a toddler, but is not on formula. She still drinks her milk per pedi orders and does it from a sippy cup. Will we not be able to bring her milk for the plane? There will be a lot of unhappy people around us as she is screaming for her milk at take off! She flies a lot and always wants her milk at take off.

What is a mommy to do???????????

From what I have read you will be able to bring on milk or formula for a baby/young child. I would call your airline and ask.

Yes, I understood that as well. I believe you can bring milk/formula for your baby/toddler as long as you drank it in front of airport personnel to prove it was safe and contained no chemicals. I hope that is correct as I will be traveling with a 2 yo next month for our WDW vacation. :confused3

The exception is for "Baby formula or breast milk when traveling with an infant" -- not for milk in general, and not for toddlers, just infants.

Here's a link to the Transportation Security Administration's advisory about this:

I heard this question addressed on a radio program on Friday. The answer was basically along the lines of preparing your child for what's about to occur. Children respond much better to stresstful situations when they know what to expect and are not surprised.

You are so right, Bicker. We have 2 special needs children and will definitely be preparing them for the changes, especially with our autistic child. We usually have our kids sip on juice during take-off to avoid the ear pressure pain. Maybe they will allow lolipops on board. I heard that helps with the inner ear pain too.

We all need to remember that these inconveniences are for our own safety. Sure, it is a pain in the rear, and my children may be upset, but what else can we do. It's all in the name of safety.
