Personally I think those that are rules you post (the last is not) should be enforced 100% of the time. The pool should be closed and any violators warned, then acted against if necessary. Young kids in the hot tub is a health hazard. Occupancy should be enforced 100% of the time as written. Using Valet parking to go to the parks is wrong and should not be allowed. Personally I see nothing appropriate about being flexibile in any of those areas.
I notice a lot of people get uptight around here for trivial things....
How does the "real world" feel![]()
Certainly cant be as good as wdw....even with all these complaints...
I think for the most part people are good and try to follow the
rules....there will always be a SLY ONE....trying to abuse the
rules....but that is life....and we move on...

The smoking issue....I can see is a very charged issue.....
But until the politicians ban smoking and stop collecting the millions
of tax dollars created by their purchase....
Give smokers....THEIR OWN ROOM...to smoke in....
In fact make 1 building smoking( far end of property...)
that nobody wants anyway...Ya know....like ...ssr carousel....section...
everyone been complaining about....
Smoking should never be allowed in common area...ie pool...
Being a new dvc owner.....someone explain please....
I always get extra blankets....i didnt know that would be a problem
at my dvc.....CAN I PAY EXTRA....

The reason everyone loves wdw....is because they try to make
everyone feel special and wanted....
I dont think wdw will have the same magical appeal with
the enforcement police walking around...

I believe your point was there were many situations where DVC SHOULD be flexible and none on the areas you mentioned met that criteria. My suspicion is most members would be far happier overall if DVC would simply set the rules and abide by them so one knew what to expect each and every time and one person didn't get something that someone else didn't and in the long run there would be less melt downs, not more. DVC should never set or waive rules simply because someone will get upset, people do it all the time for all the wrong reasons and you just fuel the fire if you are inconsistent or give in to any and all demands. Can DVC be flexible, certainly to a point, but expecting them to give in for the areas you mentioned would be more than unreasonable.Yes, I know you don't see anything appropriate in being flexible. But my point was, and continues to be, that a huge portion of DVC consumers want and like the relaxed position of DVC on these issues as they continue to do these things and will kick, holler and scream if DVC were to go to a zero-tolerance enforcement posture on ALL rules.

I think it was posts like this that gave me that idea.Nope. My point wasn't that DVC should be flexible. My point was that many, many DVC members EXPECT them to be flexible and really do not want strict enforcement.
The fact that some ill informed or difficult people will get upset should be taken into account but should not be the driving force in rules or enforcement of rules. If a rule is wrong, simply change it, otherwise rules should be enforced. I'm not naive enough not to realize that situations arise where compromises have to occur but they should be done within the rules and within the direction given by the system about the rules and not simply because someone got upset. I have a lot of experience with a number of timeshares and systems and nowhere else do you see these type of issues to any real degree. You'll get an occasional complaint about reservations or unit assignments or similar but it's a small fraction of the petty complaints we see on this BBS which is only a portion of the DVC members. You even see members requesting specific units, DVC should never accept these requests and should let the member know that, then when they don't get that unit, there is no room for complaint. IMO, DVC sets itself up more often than not and the members often have unreasonable expectations in part I believe, due to the "flexibility" in enforcement. The real world just doesn't operate this way. Discretion in "rule enforcement" has to exist. Why would Disney be any different?
You even see members requesting specific units, DVC should never accept these requests and should let the member know that.
The problems are several. First, that by accepting the request DVC gave some expectation that it might be filled and thus the complaints at check in when it is not. Then when they get so many specific requests like this that are impossible to fill, they simply quit paying attention to more appropriate requests. Unfortunately that's essentially where they are now. Specific room requests are a little more workable in a traditional full week timeshare than a hotel type reservation system like DVC. And it's simply inefficient, time and personal consuming to try to match unreasonable requests.Don't see your logic here! Whats wrong with requesting a certain room, maybe it was a honey moon room or some othe rsignificant event. Sure you may not get it but to say you can't request it, I just don't get. I deleted most of your quote because this is the only part I disagree with, the rest IMO is right on the money.
You have over 1300 posts, hardly qualifies for a newbie. As far as smoking goes it's BIG issue and there is a thread that has been going on for some time now, your right as long as it's legal some will smoke where they shouldn't and most resorts, DVC included will try accomadate them. We don't have to like it but should try not to let it affect our vacations.I am a new dvc member......interesting comments...
