Better Enforcement of Rules

OK, I really gotta ask the obvious question........

Do you REALLY want DVC and WDW to enforce each and every rule that is exists or, by and large, does it actually work fine the way it is? I find that most people really don't like zero-tolerance programs of any sort. Want proof? How many of us exceed the posted speed limit each and every day? We would be incensed if we were pulled over and ticketed for doing 27 mph in a 25 mph zone, wouldn't we? I think DVC seeks to find a balance that everyone can live with.
I don't disagree with you. I think there is some real merit to your post.

That being said, the items I've seen so far have been the larger stuff that truly affects Members in a negative way. :smokin:

I think you're kinda comparing apples to oranges here aren't you? The NS issue is a matter of health and infringing upon the health and comfort of others whereas the thermostat issue is one of comfort. When you shell out tens of thousands of dollars to buy in and another 1,500 plus in dues you should be able to be comfortable in your room. We also go in August when it is very hot and can't help but notice how Disney super-cools all of their common areas so we should be able to cool our rooms.

Well I guess the comparsion would have been better to compare pool temps to room temps.

I agree in the general sense. Some "rules" directly affect individuals more than others. I think sometimes we just get too sensitive about pet peeves. The one that I absolutely hate is when people smoke in the parks where it is clearly no-smoking and CM's do nothing. On the other hand, putting five people in a studio doesn't phase me one bit. I have never done it but won't lose sleep if others do.

I would like to see firmer enforcement of the non-smoking rules. Includingthe balconies of non-smoking rooms.

COME ON? You aren't going to let people smoke on there balconies. I'm not a smoker but... That would be pretty bad. I have been in a NS room that someone did smoke in and it was very annoying to smell for the first 3 or 4 days until we aired it out but, if someone wants to got outside and do that who are we to judge.

Since I was the first to mention enforce the rules or change them, I'd say enforce the rules they have now. Then if members complain, put a vote to all members for a change to the rules. Rules are rules. Not suggestions.

The problem becomes when we want to enjoy the balcony and the cigarette smoke from our neighbors on their balcony finds its way to my balcony......

I agree, I would be very mad if I checked into a room that was NS and it smelled like smoke.

Well boy howdy, this is going to get good! (Not that I disagree with you but I suspect that many others will).

The DIS board members would like "selective" rule enforcement. (That's where the rules they LIKE get enforced and those they don't they still get to ignore LOL!)

Like Sammie stated, this is probably a true statement.

Everyone likes rule enforcement UNTIL it applies directly to them. I'm just a guy who would like to see rules enforced as written, no exceptions. Really if you do it like that then nobody will be dissapointed and employees would feel confident enforcing what is written. As things stand now I believe employees are afraid to make the call one way or another. They just aren't sure if this is one of the days said rule should be enforced.

Now, rules I'd like to see enforced: the new one transfer rule- I have a friend who has already gotten an exception to that rule. He just requested and received two transfers to complete a family gathering. I'm all for transfers but lets be serious, why put out a rule and then not enforce it uniformly accross the board????

Occupancy limits: I stayed next to a family of 7 last trip to DVC at BCV and they were loud, rude and clearly breaking the rules. We shouldn't have to pay for the increase wear and tear caused by the abusers. I'd love to see those rules enforced.

Smoking: do away with smoking entirely like many hotels already have and then enforce it with fines.

I am liking this one.

Point morphing? :confused3
It's a glitch in the MS computer system.
Let's say I transfer Sept use year OKW points into your December use year VB account. Those points are suppose to maintain the original home resort and use year, however they will indeed morph into your use year and home resort. Now, you can use those points to book a cottage at Vero at 11 months.

Why is that a big deal? Here's one of the more extreme examples:
Commercial renters can have a 25 point contract at all DVC resorts, and have one mega contract at the resort with lowest fees. They can now transfer points from that large contract to the smaller contracts as the need arises from their "tenants". They now have home resort priority at all DVC resorts, but pay fees only at the lowest resort.

Now, that example is harder to do since DVC is enforcing the one transfer rule, but there are ways around it.
Again, that's only one example. :smokin:

My home in NJ is kept cool year round, about 65-68. I don't sleep well in temps above 68 degrees. When I go "home" to DVC I want to be able to sleep well, so the thermostat is a BIG issue for me. I want to get a good nights sleep so I can enjoy the parks during the day!

Were they in a 1 bedroom or 2 bedroom? Can't four inconsiderate people cause just as much, if not more, wear and tear than five considerate people? Now 7 in a studio might be a bit much.

Thanks, MG, for the explination. It's the first time I had heard of that....interesting.

;) Way to go Sammie, start a thread dealing with 2 DIS board no-no's; smoking and occupancy limits.

How do you manage the bus stops??

Obviously there are times that I have to be around smoke. One of those times shouldn't be when I am in my NS room or on the balcony of my NS room.

My two son's have asthma..sometimes the smoke isn't just annoying but can bring on an asthma attack which is the reason we request a NS room.
