We have booked flights for Aug 09 and will be staying for 24 nights, We are hoping to do the 1st 3 nights on site at universal and then move down to disney. The 21 days remaining at disney we will be staying at POR but would like to split it up for a few days and thought about renting some dvc points and taking 4 nights at AKL. If we check out of POR and then check back in it would mean purchasing 2 lots of tickets to get the free dining which for 5 of us works out quite expensive, so what i thought was book POR for the 21 nights with 21 day ultimate ticket and free dining then rent dvc points for 4 nights at AKL half way through the stay and just leave the POR room empty for a few days. It seems a bit silly to be paying for a room that we are not using but i cant see any other way - Am i mad for doing it this way or can anyone think of a better way to do it???:confused3

My hat goes off to all you people who love all the planning involved im ready for a nervous breakdown already and we havent even thought about ADRs yet!!!:worship:

Very difficult to advise from my viewpoint Burt because we don't do the DDP and all that time at Disney would be far too much for us.

I wouldn't even entertain paying for a room and not staying there as the prices are too expensive for that.
Can't you stay at AKL before POR? 3/4/17 split?

Planning can be hard work, it's best to keep it as simple as you can. I would always recommend a split stay, but with packing and un-packing feel it's important you spend the majority of time at the accomodation last - sometimes you don't feel really settled if you chop and change a lot.

Hi Johnny

Problem with doing AKL first is that we would still need park tickets for those first 4 days and then another lot of tickets for the stay at por, for 5 of us the tickets are £850 each time, to rent the AKL points is about £600 so in theory its cheaper to just ordr one lot of tickets and leave the room empty for the 4 days, as i said it seems a little crazy that theres not a better way round it but i cant think of one at the minute!!!

So the tickets you are getting come with the 21 day package at POR?

Sorry if this is missing the point of your question  but ...

Who are you booking the accommodation with? Is a split stay an option with them? If they would book a split stay, you'd have AKL in a standard room, not DVC accommodation, but you wouldn't have to leave a room empty or double pay for tickets.

Yes we have to buy the tickets when we book por to get the free dining, only other option is if we can do AKL first as you suggested and see if disney will allow us to activate the park tickets 4 days before we arrive at POR but i dont thnk this is allowed either, i will call disney uk i think and see what they suggest - Thanks Johnny

Disney wont do a split stay with the free dining unless you buy 2 lots of tickets, The stay at AKL we were going to do independently purchasing dvc points, we cant do AKL through disney because the rooms only sleep 4 but the dvc villas sleep 5

Why don't you go to POR and activate your 21day ticket and have the free dining plan for 17 nights then go to AKL for the last four nights, granted you won't have the free dining but surely paying for 4 days food would be cheaper than paying for two rooms? Your park tickets will then still be valid.

That would work wouldn't it? :)

Hi Claire, that might be a plan if it works!! just not sure how the 21 day ticket would work, when we book in POR it will be put on our room key so will they just de activate the room and the dining plan after 17 days but we will keep the room key and this will become our park tickets for the last four days?? :confused3 and if this does work can we do it the other way round and do the 4 days at AKL first then go to POR and use the last 17 days of our tickets with the dining???

Thats what I would do Burt! Would you still be paying for 21 nights dining as you are buying the 21 day pass or just the number of nights free dining that you are at the POR?
Also you can add the DDP to the DVC booking.Just ask the renter and they will request it and you pay when you get there.:confused3 .I know it is a dilema and takes a lot of searching and planning.

Hi Aly how was the weekend shift at the madhouse!!!, we arent bothered about the free dining for the 4 days we are at AKL but given a choice we would have rather done AKL at the start of the stay instead of the end but it might not be possible.

Hi Burt, I am sure it would work as you have paid for the ticket for 21 days....at least I hope so....that's what I am doing next year. I booked part of it direct with Disney UK and they allowed me to book 13 nights with free dining and a 21 day park ticket so I would have thought that if it wasn't possible then they would only sell you the park ticket for the same amount of nights you are booking the resort for.

I don't think it will work the other way round as you wouldn't be booking the AKL through Disney so you will not be able to activate your park tickets....this is done at check in but it is part of the package ie POR. To be honest though I would prefer to stay at the deluxe resort at the end of my trip rather than go from deluxe to moderate. Just my opinion. :goodvibes
