Hello,

After visiting WDW our daughter has become Princess crazy! I've done some looking into buying DVDs through the Disney Movie Club.

Is this the most economical way of buying them (probably mostly the classics rather than the new ones)? Does anyone know what the shipping/handling charges are for DMC?

We have rented through Netflix and have some we would like to purchase (Cinderella, Little Mermaid, etc.)

Side question, is it possible to get Sleeping Beauty anywhere?

Thanks!

No the movies there cost more and shipping is high. We finally managed to completed out our commitment and cancel but it was way too expensive. I've gotten Disney movies everywhere else for much less. Many video sites now offer a new customer discount so like I got Pirates of the Carribean 2 for $9.99 shipped to my door when it was $19.99 everywhere else. Just putter around the different video sites and see what you can find.

also check Ebay...there were a whole bunch of VHS Sleeping Beauty listings including new. I have no idea if it ever came out on DVD.

You know we thought that it was a good deal to begin with...we were able to fill in a couple of movies that we didn't have on DVD yet...and we joined because that was the only place that you could get Rocketman on DVD...just an FYI...if you want an easy CHEAP way to fulfill your membership, buy Rocketman on DVD and sell it on eBay...it is selling for $40-50!! They only let you get three of one title, but is is a GREAT bargain that way...that is what we did...we bought three of them, sold two on eBay and more then paid for the membership.

One thing that I don't like is their featured titles are MONTHS behind...like right now they are featuring The Little Mermaid.

And as for Sleeping Beauty, I think that is being released in the Platinum Edition in like October...I could be wrong though...:confused3

as much as I dislike the Disnye movie club...sigh, I bought in AGAIN! LOL Couldn't resist a money maker! But it also let me buy 5 of Rocketman so I'll sell off the 4 others. To cover my money OOP.

When did you do that order of the five?? I was able to do that order online and I waited and waited and they NEVER came, so I called and they said that my order had been cancelled because there is a limit. So beware!! And this just didn't happen ONE time, they did it twice (to my account and my DHs). And if you look in the terms of the club it does show that there is a limit.

From the website...

The introductory promotion may not be combined with any other promotional offer, including coupons or rebates. All titles are subject to availability. Not all titles are available on VHS. The Disney Movie Club reserves the right to restrict quantities of select titles ordered at regular price due to limited stock on hand. Discounted selections are limited to 3 units per title, per order, either on VHS or DVD. A Member may not purchase more than 3 discounted units of any single title during the life of his/her membership.

So if you are able to get 5 copies...GREAT...but don't hold your breath...they do stick to the limits because it is a exclusive DVD.

Never heard of Rocketman before.

Sleeping Beauty was release as a Platinum Edition DVD some time last year (maybe even the year before?). I have it.

It is STUPID humor, my DH loves it and got my DD into it...it is a funny movie, certainly not on my top 10, probably not on top 100 either, but it is cute. You should see it. You can buy it on VHS, but for some odd reason they never released it on DVD to the general public. Somehow my DH stumbled across it on eBay and almost bought it...till I checked out the DVD club because I could see the logo on the picture on someone's ebay listing and low and behold we got it.

Mine wasn't discounted. I paid $19.95 each and they already charged my card. Rocketman isn't available as one of the intro offers. Hopefully they'll send all 5 since it is almost a 2yr old movie. But even 3 would be good. ;)

Good luck...we tried doing that about 6 months ago and they didn't come. My credit card was pre-authorized, but never posted. They stuck to the limit of three when we called, saying that it was limited quantities...and who was I to complain since I already made lots of $$ on the two that I sold.

Did they tell you that???? They knew you sold them?

No, but I did get questioned about why I was ordering so many by the person who answered the phone and by the supervisor who I talked to.

Geez, why do they care why someone buys them, yk? Maybe you have a large family or distructive kids or want them for all your DVD players :lmao: .

Well with the 3 ordered and the 2 other DVDs I should have hit my commitment again. I believe it was 5 DVDs so as soon as I receive them I can cancel again. Love talking to the DMC...they are the most polite pushy ppl I've ever had to cancel from! LOL

Hi,

The postings convinced me to sign up for Disney Movie club, but as I was trying to choose my movies I noticed I couldn't find many of the ones I wanted on the listing (Cinderella, Rocketman, Lion King, Snow White).

Is there greater selection after this intro. offer?

Oh I totally agree...that is what I told the person on the phone. And I said if I am not allowed to order that many of one title why did it allow me to do it online? He said it is something that they catch in the processing. Oh and one of the times that I did the order of three I got ONE but on the receipt it said three...so I had to call and fight them to get my other two...I am sure they thought that I was trying to rip them off...though I had the SINGLE mailed that could prove it.

Definitely get it cancelled...I haven't called to do it yet, though I should.

I don't think that you can get some of those titles with the INITIAL freebie movies...just the ones that you buy to fulfill your commitment. I know I was able to find more by doing it online.

Oh and if you know someone who is already a member, have them send you an invite because then they get a free DVD for referring you...anyone want one??

I would join online for better selection.

There are some DVDs that are only available through the club.

Yes, you have to buy at regular price of 19.99 per DVD in your committment but I didn't find this hard. Some Disney DVDs at Best Buy are 19.99. Also, wait for free shipping. And if they send you a DVD and you don't want it they will refund the shipping as well which is nice!
