Best UT Ticket to Buy to Upgrade to AP?

I recall reading a thread long ago that a specific pass purchased from UT with the intention of upgrading to an AP would provide a greater $$ advantage. In other words, upgrading an 8 Day Hopper purchased from UT would save more $$ than upgrading a 5 Day Hopper. Did I imagine that? Now that I'm thinking about it, a 5 Day Hopper would only allow me 5 days of FP+ at the 60 day window until I get there and upgrade. Maybe all this isn't worth it after all. Last year we had an 8 Day Hopper and added one day on arrival, we will buy UT Hoppers before the 60 day window this Summer to split the cost burden, some $$ now, the rest in Oct. Well, I'm more confused now than I was when I started this post. Any thoughts?

You need to find the ticket with the greatest discount, with a gate price less than the AP price.

Yup.

On their listing of prices, UT tells you how much you save vs. the Disney price, so just pick the one that looks good (for savings)
and make sure that the current new Disney gate price is higher for the same kind of ticket.

Make sure all ticket prices compared (Disney and UT) include the 6.5% sales tax.

So, I'm guessing you would want the 10 day hopper + the water park option. It's not the biggest discount, but it would give you 10 days of fastpass+?
But, I am no expert here. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
The next biggest discount would only give you 4 days of fastpass+.

Guests must weigh two things.
Saving money vs the most advance-booked FP+

That's what I'm trying to decide. I'll already save a few hundred by getting 2 APs as opposed to paying for 2 9 Day hoppers this Oct then again in 2016. Actually last Oct UT only had 8 Day Hoppers so we added a day while there. Only having PF+ for the first 8 days wasn't a big deal but having to add more than that after we upgrade doesn't appeal to me. I'll probably get the 8 day from UT, book that many FP+s then convert to an AP there.

Thanks for all the info,

I'll want more than 4 FP+ days up front so I'll be going for the larger number of days and we've never hit a water park since 1999 so that's not a consideration.

After double-checking prices, I realized that all tickets (now that they've eliminated the no-expiration option) are priced below the annual pass. So, just look for the largest savings. Right now, it looks like the 4-day+hopper+water park ticket, followed at $12 less savings by the 10-day+hopper+water park ticket.

Keep in mind that you can purchase tickets with the water park option and upgrade them to the normal annual pass as long as you don't use the water parks (or other "pluses") before you upgrade them.

Hi Bill. :drinking1

The 'best', before the most recent increase, was a 6 day hopper, no expiration, water parks and more. I think it was a savings of $72. Now it would appear that the 'best', dollar savings wise, would be a 4 day hopper with water parks and more, a savings of $38. If you do not use the water parks option before doing your upgrade, they really have no bearing, you can upgrade to the basic AP. If you are more inclined to work the fastpass angle, then an 10 day hopper with water parks would give you $26. Remember, if you do not use a water park admission, and do your upgrade, you can upgrade it for the regular AP, it just saves you a few more dollars.
