Best time to wear matching T shirts

DH isn't going to be too crazy about this, but I just bought matching DCL Tees for my family of 4, and am wondering when would be the best time to wear them on the cruise. I was thinking about during one of the family game shows, something where we might get a little attention by the CMs. We've never cruised, so apart from reading these boards and the old Navigators, I don't know when/where would be the most fun time to wear the shirts while on board.

We have worn our shirts the day we board the ship...and from what I have seen alot of families do this. :) It makes for a great embarkation photo & you can easily find each other at the sail away party.

We have lots of matching tees that we had custom made. We wear them for embarkation, for the Castaway Club party, and for events such as the deck party or game shows.

Definitely for the Embarkation photo. They would be fun for the game show, too.

Dh was not thrilled with the idea of matching shirts. We went to the Magic Kingdom & Epcot before the cruise and finally found one that he would wear - a Mickey pirate shirt pirate:

We wore our CC T-shirts upon boarding the Wonder this month. later that afternoon while strolling on Deck 3, a friendly CM greeted us as we approached PC, asking if we were looking for lunch. We had already eaten, we explained, but thanked him for being helpful. As we turned to the stairwell to head up the CM said "well welcome aboard", and then when he saw the large, matching emblems on our backs, he added "And welcome back".--That for me was really the nicest bit of Wonder on board, we felt like insiders and special club members and appreciated. For all the nice things about the cruise, that one wasn't part of the agenda, and wasn't something on the brochure that you pay for. It was just nice, and the CM didn't have to do it, he'd already been helpful and welcoming. But he did something a little extra, and that is an attitude that is found more on DCL, I believe, and many others on these boards will likely echo that belief.

We'll wear them on embarkation day in April, as well--amazing that the oversize shirt we bought DS two years ago, that he was able to wear upon disembarkation as a first grader, will now still fit him for two cruises as a third grader.

I'll get flamed for this, but here goes anyway...

Matching tees is right up there with matching Hawaiian shirts, IMHO.

In Hawaii, you see all these tourists going around color-coded by family. It cracks the locals up because no one who lives there does it. I remember reading that it's considered bad taste even for weddings, family portraits, etc.

I think matching tees is just an extension of this. Unless you're on the same sports team or really don't want to lose one another on vacation, I'd say the only time for matching tees is when you're not in public.

What might look good on one family member may look horrendous on another. We come in many shapes and sizes...I have yet to see any one article of clothing that is becoming to all members of a family, except maybe socks!

Coordinate, yes, to make that photo look great, but duplicate, I don't agree. But then that's only my opinion for what it's worth, which is not much...I guess to each his own.

I think matching shirts would be cute for the embarkation photo! I seen a really big family who all had on matching shirts, and it was cute. I think they were on a famly gathering of some sort...but it was really cute!

If your dh won't be thrilled with the idea, maybe you should ask him when he would feel most comfortable wearing them. My dh would be pissed!

Otherwise, I like the 2:15 P.M. on Thursday idea. Ha!

My DH didn't even flinch when I took the matching tropical Mickey shirts & dresses out for us to wear on Pirate night. We were there to have fun! He is normally a very quiet person but when it comes to making the kids smile, he would do anything.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Didn't even consider this point when I gave my "no go on matching tees."

I can see my DH and DSs now...they'd either think I was not well and lock me up or throw me over the side of the boat! My DSs (9 & 7) have tropical shirts that are the same print, but you'd barely know it because the colors are very different. They might wear that at the same time if the occasion really called for a tropical shirt and that's the only one they had on hand, but beyond that it would be, "Byeeeee mommmmmm.....splash!"

Thanks, LoveMyBaby, for such a great laugh this morning...I'm still smiling and will be all day!

What a great idea! We wore matching T's at the Magic Kingdom last month (The Incredibles)...me, my DH, our 2 DDs, and our DS. What fun we had! Everyone had to comment on what an "Incredible" family we were! :worship: The kids enjoyed the attention and it made it easier for us to keep our "herd" together! We (me, DH, DS) are traveling the Wonder on 2/13 and will be dressed in our "Incredible" attire for our embarkation! Thanks for the great idea!

DH and I have LOTS of matching t-shirts. I have skirts and dresses that match his shirts. We wear them at the same time even at home. Guess it's a good thing we don't live in Hawaii. We also usually order exactly the same thing for dinner, both on and off the ship. Been married too long, I guess. Think alike, act alike, dress alike.

A very large group of us DISers all had matching Ts on the 10 day cruise. We got lots of comments and several other cruisers wanted to know how they could get one. It added to the fun of the trip.

Those shirts were awesome!!!

10 of us (all Disers) had on lime green T-shirts for embarkation. The photo looks great. Then one of the Disers made us all T-shirts with a picture of the ship, the date of the cruise, and our favorite character. We didn't plan on wearing them all at the same time, it just happened. We got lots of comments on Pirate night with all of us in our matching T-shirts.

I agree that matching Ts are dorky for anytime EXCEPT FOR A CRUISE! A cruise is the best place to lose all pretense and have fun. Sure it is dorky but so is playing a family game show or dancing to the YMCA, dressing for the pirate night. It is not the same as walking around Hawaii in matching clothes. A cruise is about having fun and not being stuffy, especially a Disnay cruise...HELLO you are posing for pictures with a giant stuffed MOUSE!
GO FOR IT!

Angie - we are the same way. In fact last year at Member Homecoming we didn't wear matching shirts and one of the DIS'ers we know came up and asked us what was wrong - we weren't matching!

I loved being part of the 10 day cruise and we rocked the terminal and the ship with all our matching shirts!

Yes, it is corny and dorky...but that's what makes it FUN!!
Sure, it makes hubby and I look like tourists, but that's what we are! Where else can you get away with wearing dorky clothes in public? If it makes the locals laugh, I'm glad I could brighten their day at my expense. ;)
Of course, I am the kind of person who wears a huge hat that looks like Stitch is eating my head whenever we visit WDW, and I force poor hubby to wear a hat that looks like a monorail is driving through his head. Face it, I am just an exhibitionist at heart.
