When is the best time to cruise to get the best sailing...least rough seas? I thought hurricane season was Sep - Nov so we were avoiding that time. We'd like to head out and avoid the cold winter, but is that when seas are rough?

Unfortunately you can have rough seas anytime during the year. Hurricane season actually starts June 1st and runs through November. Past weather patterns usually show that more of the tropical storms hit during the fall, but can happen mid summer as well.

The ships do everything they can to steer away from bad weather but sometimes you just cannot get away from rough water.

When we sailed this past January we had one day that waves were rough and we were not able to dock at Grand Cayman. I would suggest booking a cruise when you can, and not worry too much about the weahter. Some of your best price times would be January, Feb and the fall months. Summer is peak price season and you still have the chance for rough seas.

We have sailed in January, February, July, August, October on DCL and only had one rough sea day this past January. It's all just the luck of the weather Gods!!!

We sail quite often during hurricane season (love those off-season rates!), and have never had a problem with rough seas. At least, no more so than any other time of year. On one cruise when we were re-routed due to a storm, we still didn't have any problems with rough seas. In fact, my favorite time to go is late September or early October, the heart of hurricane season. The weather is really hot, which I like, and the days are still long.

I'd agree with mmouse37, book when it works for you, you cannot predict the weather with any type of certainty, and going during hurricane season doesn't necessarily mean you will encounter rough seas.

we cruised aug 29th-sept 1st 2002 and didnt have one bit of rough weather, in fact we were about 14 hours in front of a hurricane and you'd never know it the only way i found out was when we at castaway cay a lady i was talking to on the beach told me . we have also sailed the 2nd week of november and had one rough nite, where everything was falling off shelves, but august was much smoother, kids didnt even need dramimine once that trip.
