Hi everyone! This is my first post and I'm very excited to be joining your community. I am trying to plan a surprise honeymoon for my fiancee for July 13-19 and I was just wondering what the best place to stay is. I was mainly looking into The Grand Floridian, The Polynesian, The Boardwalk resort (I can't quite remember the name of it), and the French Quarter resort. I know the Polynesian has a honeymoon room/suite...does anyone know what it's like? Do any of the other hotels have honeymoon rooms? I'm wondering if I should even spend that much on a deluxe resort or just go for a moderate resort. All information/opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You only honeymoon once (well, we all hope so!), so I'd splurge on the Deluxe resorts.

Out of all the Deluxes, I'd go for the Poly. It has a very romantic appeal to it. Don't rule out Wilderness Lodge, though. It can be quite romantic in its own way, just different from the Poly. The WL is also less expensive than the Poly, if you want to save a little bit, but it's still Deluxe.

A garden suite at the Boardwalk Inn is a perfect honeymoon room. Private with a huge jacuzzi tub and walk in shower and king bed.

I'm doing the same type of planning... but not even close to being engaged :rolleyes1 But hey.. a girl can dream right! Have to have something to go along with that Disney wedding I'm planning too... heh!

I've narrowed it down too:

WL Honeymoon suite: Love the feel of the resort... love the jacuzzi tub... love the CL privledges. Not a huge fan of the view (wooded view, with two that "face" the MK) but can't complain about anything else!

Poly Lagoon View CL: I'm not a fan of how the honeymoon suite is not in the Hawaii/CL longhouse so I crossed that one off my list. I love the LVC rooms though. The view is breathtaking... the CL lounge is top notch... and the resort has such an amazing/romantic feeling.

GF Honeymoon suites: These suites are amazing... but so is that price tag lol! I've noticed these rooms don't have balconies but several windows that offer amazing views. It's main building concierge... which is a very nice touch. Still a very expensive price tag in my book.

All three of these resorts are in the process/has completed full room renovations including flat screen TVs, new furniture/decor, and new linens. This is a HUGE advantage in my book... that give them the 1-up over some of the boardwalk area hotels.

Yacht Club Lagoon view: Love this resort for the pool... location... and the amazing view. Perfect area to just wander around, grab a great drink, and soak in the moment.

DVC resorts: I have not ruled out the DVC resorts either. The 1-bedrooms are fantastic with the jacuzzi tubs, king beds, seperate living area, etc. I would definately consider SSR (more of an adult/privacy feel).

We stayed at the GF for our HM and I wasn't thrilled, in fact I will never stay there again because of our particular situation. We stayed in the HM suite at the WL for our 1st anniversary and LOVED it- giant jacuzzi tub, on conceirge level, fabulous service (much better than our experience at GF- almost half the price tag!!!). We are staying in a regular old Poly room for the 1st time in Oct. I say either the WL, the Poly, or Boardwalk! Best of luck with your planning and I agree with splurging on a HM!

I think the garden suites at the BI are the best. You feel like you are in your own little world. These are very very romantic with there white picket fences and rose gardens they are perfect. I have stayed in the honeymoon suite at the GF and I really prefer the garden suites. pixiedust: :dogdance:

my wife and I stayed in one of the turret rooms in the Grand Floridian and loved it. It was in the main lobby just above the area where the band played and to the right. We had a perfect view of the wedding pavilion and with a balcony next to the room (that no one but us ever used) we could see the castle in the MK.
the staff greeted us by name every morning and evening as we would come and go. They also did the little things that helped make that trip one of our best ever.
So I say go for the GF!!!

We stayed at the WL in one of the honeymoon suites and loved it. The secluded location, huge jacuzzi tub, and king bed were great. They are concierge now (that may or may not appeal to you), but they weren't 10 years ago!

I would also look at the Boardwalk Inn that others mentioned (Garden room) because it sounds secluded and the Boardwalk area in general is great for ending your evening in Epcot's World Showcase (eating and drinking your way around the world and watching Illuminations). For that reason, I would look at YC/BC (I really like the YC), too.

Look at pics and see what appeals to you (and what might appeal to your DF since you are surprising her!).

Enjoy your trip!

ETA: The GF does not appeal to me (I'm a woman). I don't find it to be the "end all be all" in romantic atmosphere that others seem to think. To quote another DIS-er who put it perfectly, it just seems too "grandma's house" to me. I wouldn't rule it out, but I would explore other options, too. That's all I'm saying.

It really depends on what you guys are into. I find places like WL and Poly great for a vacation but I wouldn't want my honeymoon there - although you guys might love it if your into boating and fishing. If you are into golf & spas then SSR is awesome as is GF. You might even consider the French Quarter section of Port Orleans. Very romantic gardens and New Orleans architecture - very sweet. If you guys are animal lovers then Animal Kingdom Lodge might be just the right place for you. If your looking for more traditional "Florida" decor (floral prints, pastels and beach watercolour art) then you can basically pick from either Boardwalk or Beach Club. If I had to do it over again, I might try the French Quarter at Port Orleans. Good luck!

We just got back from the Beach Club and I LOVED the location of the Epcot resorts area...I would chose to be in that area on my honeymoon...so many different places to hideaway along the beachfront, walking into Epcot, etc...and yet so much to do so close by...you could really wing it in that area and do things as the mood striked because there is so much choice right there...

this is probably not what you want to heard.

if you are spending $5,000 or more - then I would consider buying DVC.Then you can go each year.

We chose the Poly for our upcoming honeymoon. It just seems like such a relaxing place with many amentities.

We stayed at WL for our DFTW and start of our Honeymoon. We were not in a honeymoon suite, but in a courtyard view room, and we loved it!

I have to agree with the other posters that said one of the EPCOT resort hotels

My fiance and I have stayed at the beach club and the boardwalk on 2 seperate weeks two times this year. Since you are on your honeymoon it would be great to have access to EPCOT every night so you could do a different dining choice...also there is nightlife on the boardwalk (jellyrolls/atlantic dance hall ESPN BAR) if you guys wanted to just grab a drink....this way you wouldnt have to get on a bus every time for some nighttime activites you can just walk to them.

Every trip my fiance and I always say we are going to go to Pleasure Island and hit a club...We were always so shot from the parks we only made it there ONCE in our two weeks there!!! So at least by being by the boardwalk you can just walk to some nightlife...(if you are interested in that?)

although the poly looks awesome (i did stay there once but that was over 10years ago) and i would love to stay there again ... we are hooked on the EPCOT resorts.

The BWI wasn't built when we honeymooned (1990) and we stayed at the Grand Floridian, which was absolutely magnificent. That said, I'd probably consider the Garden Suites at BWI now as we enjoy the Epcot resort area so much more than the MK resort area. But the GF is spectacular and I've got wonderful memories of it being a very romantic place to start our married life.

GF was pretty romantic for my parents they gave them free champagne and autographs it was also the atmosphere.

We stayed at the Boardwalk this past May for our honeymoon and loved it. We had a view of Epcot and could see the fireworks from Illuminations from our balcony. It was great.

We stayed at CBR for our honeymoon last October...but we really truly wanted to stay at the Poly :cloud9: I don't know what it is about that resort but it is sooooo romantic.

Have not tried any of the EPCOT resorts, so they might be too. But I give a big :thumbsup2 to the Poly. And if you do stay there....can you fit me in your suitcase?? As a matter of fact....that goes for anyone staying at the Poly in the near future!

I'm going to go a completely different route and say that you should consider Coronado Springs for your honeymoon. My wife and I stayed there in July for our honeymoon and it was absolutely beautiful. It is a convention hotel, there are less kids there, it's more of an adult feel and because it is a moderate hotel, it's a little easier on the wallet. The pool is beautiful and the rooms right on the lake in the Cabana's section are really romantic. We were given a champagne toast at the Laguna bar at night on the lake. It was the best week I've ever had.
