Can someone point me to a cool pool home? We currently have ressies at Nick Hotel, but I am thinking a pool home might be better...

Hi I am new here but I rented one time from alexander holiday homes
but this time I am leaning towards "windsor hills" Ive heard good things on tripadvisor.........

First you'll want to do a search on this forum for pool home threads. There is tons and tons of info.

Some of my top suggestions are to be prepared to do your research. There are so many different ways to go on this. I prefer to rent direct from the owner- usually it means a savings of 20-50%. I use sites like www.vrbo.com or www.orlandovilas.com . Also, location is another thing to factor in. There are some development's right near WDW that will only take a few minutes drive like: Emerald Island, Formosa Gardens, and Windsor Hills (this is just a few). These will 9 out of 10 times cost you several hundred more for the same house you can get 15 minutes away in the Davenport area (which has developments like Hampton Lakes, Regal Palms, and Calabay Parc- to name a few). It really depends on where you want to be and if you'll be returning mid-day. We've stayed in both area's for different reasons.

Make sure when you get quotes you ask what would be included in that rate (tax, pool heat, cleaning, security) and what would be extra. Also ask if they have a local management company.

I think you might be suprised at what you'll find. There are so many options- something to fit almost every family and taste. You should easily be able to find something for the same price or even considerably less than the Nick Hotel.

Check out www.disneydreamhouse.com. I am from MN and so are the owners. We are staying there from March 1-9. Rates are very good. I have to admit, I was very nervous about renting directly from an owner. I'm a Deputy Sheriff, and I did not want to eat my own words, as I have told many people that have been "duped" that they shouldn't be surprised, especially when things sound "too good to be true."

I researched this property and have been very satisfied with the communications I have received from the owners...

If you do decide to book, tell them the Deputy from MN told ya about it...

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the ideas, guys...still looking. We are going from April 2-7 and a 2 or 3 bedroom will fit us. We are 3 adults, 3 children. My kids are 10, 7 and 6. If anyone finds anythign that is wonderful, please post! I have found a lot of openings, but would rather book something someone else has already seen/been to/had communication with the owners/knows the owners....

We've stayed with www.justfloridavacations.com last year and plan on renting through them again this summer. Karen is the owner of the management co. and actually owns several of the homes herself. We stayed in the "Platnium" in Rolling Hills last year and everything was wonderful. Absolutely clean. Karen was great to work with and answered all my questions.
Good Luck!

The ideal location is in Kissimmee , just off the 192.

This way you are close to supermarkets, restaurants with easy access to the I4 (for Universal) and Disney.
The Formosa Gardens area is our preferred choice, and we really like Indian Creek which has a good balance of 4/5 bedroomed homes, all reasonably new.

That's hillarious...I leave tomorrow and we have the same house rented for 2 wks. I agree that communications are great and the owners seem quite genuine and have been very accomodating and helpful.

We have used www.villasclosetodisney.com (rent direct from owner) to rent two homes in Emerald Island. One, a 4 bedroom is "Emerald Footprints", which we stayed in and liked very much. It is absolutely loaded with amenities (games room, broadband, emormous TV, the works) but the cost and availability reflects it. This year in May we have a bigger group and we are renting a 6 bedroom home which is absolutely stunning, and we are so excited! Looking for the pool home is half the fun, I think!

Note: edited to add: I didn't know when I wrote this that we are only allowed to mention the pool homes NOT owned by any DIS member. I have been corrected and now understand the policy. Thank you.

HI,
Check out condoatdisney Alex has great prices. This is not a pool home or villa, it is a condo, but there are many amenities at Windsor Palms.
Great deal if you can do without the private pool. He also has a condo at Windsor Hills which is a little closer to WDW, but it is not on the web site, you will have to call for that one.

If you want the security of a company behind the rental and not just an owner check out www.awardpoolhomes.com They are reasonably priced - better than their competition. As a travel agent, I have used them for the past 7 years and have never had a problem. Their homes are in the Greater Groves/Orange Tree area - about 10 - 15 minutes from WDW. An easy drive.

Because we wanted to be closer this time (we will have an 18 month old with us) I am going out on a limb and renting direct from an owner in Emerald Island. It's going to run $1275 for 9 nights with pool/spa heat and all taxes - and they also have a game room. (Praying we won't be "duped" as the deputy put it.) Faith and trust... (now where is my pixie dust? :teeth: )

If you're looking at renting from an owner, don't be afraid to offer what you are willing to pay. We had a quote from one owner for $1275 and when someone else responded to my request I said that I already had this rate. They, in the end, agreed to lower their rate because they wanted the business. Granted, we are going in May when many homes will be sitting empty... Bargaining probably won't work if you're traveling during peak times.

What does this mean? If you stayed in a home owned by a dis member-you are not allowed to talk about your experience?

Could someone explain the policy for us all so we can understand it please ?

There can be no advertising on the DIS. Anything that gives members referrals for money or advertising that can lead to money is prohibited.

You mean that we can't mention a particular villa owned by a DIS member, but we can mention a villa not owned by a DIS member? That doesn't seem right. I can see not advertising your own villa here on the DIS but a satisfied customer mentioning a great product is something else.

Thanks Kilee
I can see the point in not having owners advertise their own home as things could get out of hand -but is there a difference between this board and the DVC board where owners advertise points for rent/sale?

This has been posted on the board:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1019286

We are currently looking into updating the policy w/ more defined guidelines.

I think it is a good idea to make a coherent policy, and I thank the moderators for working on it. In an effort to be fair to owners NOT on the DIS, you don't want to be unfair to owners ON the DIS. I think many DISers would agree that those who own pool homes have been some of the most helpful people on this board. I can see that this is a difficult issue.

I know this was not Kilee's intention, but I do want to make it clear, given the quote above, that I have not been paid by any DIS member to advertise their home. I would not want anyone to think otherwise.
