So being brave in my old age (of 31...)

I tried crawfish a few months ago and loved it and am willing to widen my pallet for more seafood. Currently, I love lake perch, crab legs, crawfish, shrimp cocktail; and that's about it.... Willing to give oysters on the half shell a try as I'm in Disney in 29 days!

I remember there being a place Downtown Disney if I'm not mistaken....

Any suggestions? Will I like them based on what I said about my preference for seafood? Thanks!

I don't eat oysters myself but I know they are available at Fultun's which is on the boat in DTD.

That's the place I was thinking of. I'll check out their menu. Hopefully they have a bar and I can just order 1-2 rather than a full meal and not eat any and it be wasted...

I know they offer a seafood ap or meal that includes 3 different types of cold seafood- I can't remember what was on it besides shrimp and crab legs as I ordered it with only extra of those and not the third item but in the bar area you can order smaller amounts of any of the cold seafood they serve- or with something like that you can order it and ask for only a small amount of that item(if you want more of the cheaper items there is no charge but if I had wanted more of the item I left off it would have been an upcharge).

Bluezoo at the Dolphin also has a quite existence raw bar of clams, oysters, lobster tail, shrimp and ceviche. It's a must do for my boyfriend and me when we dine there. We also are fans of the raw bar tower at Fulton's Crab House.

If you'll have a car, it's well worth the 15 minute drive to Oceanaire in the Pointe Orlando complex. They serve east and west coast oysters at their oyster bar. You should also try their mussels!

If you don't have a car, bluezoo has amazing seafood - everyone in my family enjoyed their oysters.

Oysters are unlike anything you have listed as liking. But, you sound really adventurous - enjoy!!

***September is Magical Dining Month in Orlando. bluezoo offers a 3-course meal for $33. You can have a full dinner and order an oyster as an appetizer to see if you like it!

Both Fultons and Blue Zoo have a bar where you can get a full meal or most anything else--including oysters.

Afraid I can't hop aboard the oyster bandwagon tho.

I love oysters but these days they are SOOO small that they aren't worth the $$.

Mrs U had Oysters Rockefeller a few nights back--all 5 of the oysters would have fit comfortably in a tablespoon.

The Boathouse also has oysters. Though if you're trying them for the first time I'd suggest starting with some fried ones first to see if you like them before going for the raw ones.

Agreed, except I would suggest steamed rather than fried. Frying them completely changes the taste/texture for me. I can't stand them fried, but I will eat a whole mess of steamed. I also can't do raw. Best thing in the world is a bucket of steamed oysters, saltine crackers, hot sauce and lemon. And a cold beer. Man.. now I need it to be oyster season!

Nope! I can't STAND fried oysters (tried them first) but love, love, love them raw!!

I love oysters and have tried many types and keep a list of which I love, like and stay away from. Boathouse, Fulton, BlueZoo, Flying Fish all will have selections. My first tip is stay away from Blue Point - they are the lowest grade in my opinion and most others. These are usually the ones that they use for the Buck a Shuck and Happy hour specials.

Oysters come in various sizes and styles. I would recommend getting a few of each type to see what you like.

I love most types but prefer a briny/salty oyster - ask the server which ones they have and where are they from. An educated server or hopefully someone in the restaurant will be able to tell you a little about each.

Size doesnt always mean value - I am seeming to like the smaller ones as they are more plump and delicious.

Welcome to the world of oysters - just a warning if you do like them the hobby can get expensive. Also try raw clams on the half shell, yummy!

Another vote for Boathouse! Raw oysters are my fave with fresh grated horseradish, a drop of cocktail sauce, and mignonette...mmmm delish!

I think Blue Points are the largest and Kumamotos are the smallest.

TrustTheScupper . . . Blue Zoo for oysters, a close second is Boathouse.

NOTE: Plus, at Blue Zoo, you get an award-winning mixologist for cocktails.

Sorry to Hijack but I have a quick question?

We canceled our ADR at Cape May, because there just were too many negative reviews and most of our large party got a lil hesitant.

So my Question is this...Being that we're staying in BWV, and could easily walk over there, 1, do you think it would be possible for a walk up res. & do they also have King Crabs legs, & if yes how are they? TIA. DizDad

It usually is easy to get a table as a walk-up unless there is a major convention onsite. You can also order off the full menu when seated in the bar area which is quite large.

Lobster is a staple on the menu. We've never seen King Crab legs - not even on the cold seafood platter. They do have a crab sauce to accompany the Simply Fish entree and Crab Nachos are on the bar menu.

If you really want to try a bit more I'll echo Blue Zoo and more specifically say just go for the raw bar. It's a great shared appetizer for two or more but on it's own may be plenty for a full meal. Let's you try some good oysters, lobsters, shrimp, and much more if you're looking to explore further.

1) Cape May DOES NOT have King Crab legs.
2) They have Snow Crab legs.
. . . much smaller in size
. . . less meaty and less flavor
3) For King Crab, at Disney, you need Fulton's, or go off-site to Joe's Crab Shack.
