Hello - we are heading to WDW in September and I would like to sew some easy dresses for DD 3 with princess/mickey/etc. fabric. Thinking about making some pillowcase type dresses, as well as some longer tiered ones. I found a few patterns for the tiered ones, but was looking for something a little longer (tea length /ankle) Does anyone have a favorite pattern?

Also - is there a particular place other than Joann's that everyone buys their Disney fabric?

TIA!
Megan

You dont have to just use disney material, you can make t-shirt dresses and applique on the t-shirt I have used material I liked and appliqued on the bodice you can also do short sets.

i live in Pittsburgh and my joann fabrics had some cute disney fabric. minnie, princess, ect.
And it was an easy to use material. All you do is sew a seam and add ribbons for straps. easy sundress.

I bought some pre-shirred fabric on Ebay (from the user who sent me here! To see if you can buy some there, I usually do a regular search for "shirred fabric"), have my DD's sundress almost complete and I've only made one stitch! :woohoo:

Basically, take the fabric you cut for your size dress (I'm making a size 2T and cut 16 1/2" of fabric...you can prolly add 1/2" for the 3T size??? top should be snug...) and make a 1/4" seam down the length of the whole fabric to make a tube. Voila! Dress. Now add straps. If you're skilled, you can always cut fabric from the bottom (might make dress a bit short though) or use a matching/coordinating fabric to make turned straps. I am more of a novice and am cheating...I am going to use a matching/coordinating ribbon and just hem finish the top edge so it won't unravel. For the 2T size I am attaching each set of straps 2 1/2" from each "edge" of the dress while right-side out (the seam goes under on arm, measure from there and the other edge is the fold at the opposite end), and they will measure 3" apart in the middle.

Hopefully I will have the dress finished soon and will post a picture if it will help!

Good Luck!!!! :goodvibes

Both Joann's and Walmart carry the pre-shirred fabrics. And Joann's usually has a coupon in the Sunday paper.

Recently at Joann's I have seen Purple Minnie, Pink Princess and Teal Tinkerbell. There is also a pastel Pooh. The fabrics are hemmed all you need to do is sew a seam in the back and add ties/straps to the shoulders.

Have fun!

Thanks for the info Cindee! (That's our DD's name, love your spelling!)

I have tried to avoid Joann's lately, too many projects and fabrics already purchased...I'm an addict! But I may want to go pay them a visit and look for the pre-shirreds there as well! Thanks!

I also wanted to mention that if you don't already know, sign-up for Joann's mailing list and their bi-weekly ads always have a 40% coupon and when big sale weekends come up, they have awesome deals and additional coupons! That's how I get in trouble! :)

Still no ribbon for my dress...had a busy day today, maybe tomorrow or Monday I can sneak away from my office! Then I'll work on posting enough to be able to post a pic! Wish me luck! :rotfl:
