Hi Everyone,

Don't know if this has been asked before but I am looking for a HOME (not cell) phone plan that is reliable and inexpensive.

A friend told me about MCI's The Neighborhood plan which is $49.99 per month for unlimted local and long distance calls but I don't make any long distance calls so I don't know if that would really benefit me. Are there any other phone plans out there that are less expensive? I currently have Ameritech.

I do have teens that talk a lot locally though. Any suggestions? I live in Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) if that helps.

Thanks :)

Wow, $49.99 per month is expensive if you don't use much long distance. I don't know about Chicago but my basic phone plan (in Southern California) is about $25 per month for local calls plus I have a few extra features like call waiting and call blocking. For long distance I have a separate calling plan through MCI.

Why don't you check out some of the phone company websites and see what they have to offer? Many of them will compare plans for you as well.

Good luck! :)

not sure what the local phone service is in your area, but we have found that we use our home phone so rarely for long distance that it's cheaper to cancel our long distance service and use phone cards we buy from Sam's club.

I do have a cell phone with 7500 minutes a month (6500 nights and weekends) that includes free long distance so we usually try to use the cell phone when making long distance calls. (Need 1000 daytime minutes a month for work) But we keep the sam's club card by the main phone if we need to use it.
