Best Holiday Appetizers

Pigs in a blanket are always a big hit at our house. We buy a big pack of hot dogs and crescent rolls at Costco and its pretty cheap and easy. Sometimes we add cheese to the crescent before we roll it up. The kids sometimes like to take a whole one eat them.

Scallops wrapped in bacon would be good.

The meatball thing does sound gross--the grape jelly is just for sugar, I'm positive.

But there are other meatball recipes. I like most of them. Just google meatballs in a crockpot. If it is a fancier party, I'd put the finish meatballs in a nice serving dish.

The meatballs are heated in equal parts of Chili Sauce and Grape Jelly. Though the last time I made it, I used Peach preserves, because that is what I had on hand and made the chili sauce homemade, because I didn't want to go the store - so I upped the chili peppers and garlic. It sounds gross - but it VERY good. Think sweet and spicy, like Asian food.

This dip is always a hit:

Salsa Reuben Dip

1 brick cream cheese
8 oz sour cream
4 oz dried chip beef (I have seen this recipe using corn beef or pastrami)
1/2 c shredded swiss cheese
8 oz can sauerkraut
1 C Salsa
2 cloves of garlic minced fine
1/4 fresh parsley minced fine

You can serve this dip hot or cold - if you plan to serve it cold, don't heat at all.

We call them "sugar weenies". it is a Paula Deen recipe. You could probably google it.

Super easy-

Package of coctail sausages
package of bacon (we get maple bacon)
brown sugar
toothpicks.

All you cut bacon in half. Take a strip and wrap it around a sausage. Use a toothpick to secure. Dip in brown sugar and bake. The toothpicks make great handles to serve.

A typical, high caloric recipe from Paula, but a delicious treat once a year!

I make this every year. My kids love them! It's something my grandmother used to make for her grandchildren. Brings back good memories! :lovestruc

I like to have bacon wrapped scallops and cold shrimp cocktail. Plus, the usual cheese and cracker platters, veggie and/or fruit platters and a christmas cookie platter.

The meatballs are very good! Yep, grape jelly and chili sauce and meatballs in the crockpot all day. Make it alot. You can also use lil smoked weinies. I know, it sounds gross.:lmao:

I agree. We eat the meatballs or cocktail weiners cooked in chili sauce and grape jelly all the time at parties. Very common at holiday parties in the South. :thumbsup2

Sausage Cheese Balls
Buffalo Chicken Eggrolls (Can be time consuming)

"Christmas Eve Sausages"

Two packages of cocktail sausages
One jar of currant jelly
Two generous tablespoons (or more) of horseradish sauce.

Combine all the ingredients in a sauce pan and heat.

These are a must on Christmas Eve at my house. I've been making them for years.

Anything you can purchase "pre-made" at the store! Get a pretty plate and arrange nicely and you have a party!:lmao:

I
Caramel Apple Dip
Layer softened cream cheese in dish, pour caramel ice cream topping over, and sprinkle with chopped pecans. Serve with sliced apples.

I make this, too, but I add in brown and white sugar, the caramel apple dip caramel, and instead of pecans, I use Heath bar pieces. I LOVE it and always look for an excuse to make it.

Yum!! I make this all the time. My recipe is:

Boil 2-3 chicken breasts and then shred them

Mix 1 block of cream cheese, 1 cup of Blue cheese dressing and 1 cup of Frank's red hot(we like spicy!) with the chicken. Bake it for about 45 minutes until hot and bubbly. Serve with scoops!!

I never had this. It is miserable here today. So, I am making it now!

I make buffalo chicken dip for a lot of events and it is always raved about! I used canned chicken breast though.

Me too!!! But I use the dip that they sell in the produce aisle (caramel dip) and broken skor bits! So yummy!!!

I had a hot Reuben Dip at my friend's house one Christmas. There are many recipes out there for this, and since I don't have his recipe I will just say to google it and read which one sounds the best. But it was soooooooo good.

Also, there is a company called Dr. Pete's and they have the most delicious Praline Mustard Sauce that is wonderful over either a baked brie or better- over a brick of cream cheese served with crackers. Easy and you can either buy it on line, or a gourmet grocer. We have Fresh Market grocers here in the south and they carry it. Here is the website so you can see what it looks like: http://www.dr-petes.com/display.cfm?pid=5&pt=1

I agree, those Little Smokies in sauce (just about any sauce, but we like Heinz Chile sauce and grape jelly w/pineapple chunks) are a guaranteed hit and you should make a lot. There are always a few people at the end of the evening with their toothpicks fishing around for just one more weinie!

I usually make bacon wrapped scallops. Yum. :lovestruc

I also LOVE pickle wrap dip. I'm too lazy to actually sit and make pickle wraps, so the dip is a lot easier for me to make.

16 oz cream cheese, softened
12 oz Buddig beef, chopped
16 oz baby dill pickles, diced
Ritz crackers

-Combine cream cheese, chopped beef, diced pickles. Mix well & serve with crackers.
-Keep refrigerated.

Easy-peasy!
