Does anyone have recommendations on the best route around the SC i-95 closure. We leave in 2 days and from the sounds of things it will still be closed.

Thanks!

I95 is not open north or south bound. Some portions of 95 are open to local traffic only. If you are riding 95 going north or south the detour is I26/I77/I20 and it is 168 miles long. It will be November 1st before I95 reopens according to SC DOT. But I think that is being optimistic. For the moment there are not really any other detours available. The 5 or so counties surrounding 95 were really tore up.

Makes me glad we're not going to Disney again until late January. I still can't get my mind around the devastation.

I just read the news story where the Southbound lanes are now open! I am so glad...was dreading having to take the detour!

I live in SC - they just announced that all I-95 lanes Southbound are now open. Northbound lanes should re-open tonight or Tuesday morning.
just curious - do you know why it has been closed for so long - I'm sure initially it was water on the road but now - were the bridges damaged? I know there is a huge lake around exit 98 - I can't imagine it going high enough to flood that bridge (seems like the bridge is very high off the water at that point). Just trying to imagine it all.....

Yes there were bridges that had issues - must have been minor to get them fixed so fast.

A poster above me was correct. I got my notice sometime while I was sleeping. 4,000 man hours since they could get access last Thursday. 24 hour a day operations. Southbound is open-one lane. Northbound open tomorrow. To all traffic. The foundations underneath several bridges had washed out. They have been repaired.

All of I-95 in South Carolina is open in both directions

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has reopened thenorthbound lanes that had been closed since last week due to the historic flooding event in South Carolina. This action now opens I-95 completely in South Carolina in both directions. Work began on Saturday morning, October 10 to repair 18 bridges in that 13-mile closed section."
