Best Character Meal?

Which meal is the best as far as characters?
I want to go to one where the characters are really interactive with your table...I don't want them to just show up once for an autograph and a picture.

The Characters really only show up briefly at all the breakfasts. We just returned the 9th and had Chef Mickey, Crystal palace and Tusker house booked and did not notice a difference at any on them. Short and sweet is what you should expect or else you will be disappointed.

The character meals that we really like to go to and keep going back to because of the interaction of the characters are Akershus Princess Breakfast in Norway and Cape May Cafe Breakfast. At Akershus, my DD8's favorite princess (Jasmine) found out that my DD loves her so she asked her what her favorite part of Alladin that she liked then she asked my DD if she would sing "A Whole new World" with her. At Cape May we had Minnie sit down next to us in our booth just ga-gaing over my DD6 because she had on a Minnie sweatshirt and hairpiece (she is Minnie's biggest fan), Minnie also kept giving my DD6 hugs and kisses as well. Both girls were in heaven after each of the breakfasts.

Garden Grill is probably one of the best for character interaction.

When our family went in Jan/Feb 2009 we ate at Tusker (Breakfast), 'Ohana (Breakfast), Cinderella's Royal Table (Lunch), Crystal Palace (Lunch), Garden Grill (Supper) and Chef Mickey (Breakfast).

I would say they were all very good and if you asked questions they would answer if face characters or pantomime for the other characters. They always loved it when one of the children were wearing their picture on their clothing, and would point to it or comment on it. We did go in a slower value season and never seemed rushed nor did the characters brushed us off. I don't know if it matters when you go in the year. We had various seating times from being first to middle to near the last and never were the characters different. I think it may depend on the how the characters are feeling themselves and how busy the restaurants are. Again, if you interact with the characters they usually love to answer your questions or comment on your comments. Don't be shy.

When we went in February with my son and niece and nephew their favorite character meal by far was Breakfast at Ohana. Stitch and Pluto both goofed around with the kids for a while. Lilo played peek-a-boo with my niece and Mickey kept bugging my mom, it was a blast.

We did 1900PF(dinner), CP(lunch), Akershus(dinner), CM(dinner) H&V(lunch) and Akershus was the best. My 3 yr old grand daughter loves the princesses and the look on her face as she spotted each of the 4 is something I will never forget. They spend quite a bit of time at each table. Plus the photo package was included with the meal @ Akershus.

They are all short and sweet, but also great! We love all the ones mentioned above and also especially Crystal Palace! They have Pooh characters and Tigger is very intereactive. They also have a parade with the kids around the restaurant (do that at Ohana too). At Garden Grill, Chip and Dale are silly together. Once they got in a "straw and napkin fight". That was our first trip 4 years ago and the kids still talk about it! Have fun!

We did Akershus last year and LOVED it! We went to the world with my DH, DS5, DD2, DD6 and it was a special breakfast for just DD6 and I. She was wearing a black tshirt with a glittery pink skull and crossbones that had a glittery pink tiara. Jasmine oooohed and ahhhed over her shirt asking if she like pirates. When DD6 said yes, Jasmine said "That means you like to sword fight! I do too! I'm not snooty like the other princesses!"

Needless to say she has a new favorite!

Part of it depends on which characters you HAVE to see!! Other than that, my favs were crystal palace because of the parade they do plus there was always a character at the table....we hardly had time to eat!! We also really like Hollywood n Vine (both lunches) because although it is not classic characters (Little Einsteins, jojo, etc), they do a lot of singing and dancing, and have the kids get up with them. Our kids LOVED that one!! They also still talk about their dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern with chip n dale and minnie, unfortunately that one no longer has characters except for while CP is in rehab.

Chef Mickeys. The characters were at our table twice. Mickey and Donald were chasing each other around with stuffed animals. Donald grabbed the doll off our table. This went on for 5 minutes. The kids loved it!!! The characters were in no rush at all. it was our best experience!!

I'm trying to get my Dad to break down and do Akershus. Although he is a little leary of the price....can anyone give me some really good arguments for that one?

We paid OOP for the Akershus breakfast. By far the best breakfast of the week, the hashbrowns were amazing. The princesses were fantastic, the inside of the restaurant is gorgeous. Hope you can talk them into it

The best interaction tends to be with the "face characters" - the ones who can speak.

My youngest daughter enjoyed the princesses, but their vocabulary tends to be restricted to "your dress is pretty like mine..." (smile, flicker eyes).

The wicked stepmother & ugly sisters at 1900 PF were excellent and both daughters like them.

About Akershus. What makes it worth it is the princess interaction, if you've got a girl with you, it is awesome because they come and talk to your little princess and don't rush. And, of course the pic with sleeping beauty is great! But, I have to say this, our kids hated the food there! And we didn't like much of it either, but that was just a matter of taste. I would recommend the bfast if you are gonna do it, unless you like scandinavian food!

Oh, and maybe you could tell your dad, "When else are you gonna get to eat bfast with so many pretty princesses?!?!?!" Seriously though, it is expensive, but worth it to get to see your grandkids faces light up when they get to meet their favorite princess!

Our favorite character interactions were at 1900 Park Faire breakfast and Garden Grove breakfast. The Mad Hatter at 1900 Park Faire is hilarious! Garden Grove was empty so the characters sat with us at the table.
