I want to bring some Canadian beer to a friend in the U.S. but I am not a beer drinker so I am clueless as to what kind to bring. What brand would you recommend???? :drinking1

I am not a beer drinker myself but my Uncle seems to like it......a lot! :smooth:

Warn him before he starts drinking it :cool1:

Serving beer quite a bit our most popular brands are Canadian and Blue and Coors lite in the lite variety.

These are the three most popular beers with US Beer Drinkers!

But remind them, drinking One Cdn Beer is like drinking a Six Pack of there's!

Cheers!

My DH drinks Blue and seems to like it. Personally beer is yucky!

Isn't Coors Lite American?

My suggestion would be to go for a premium beer. How about Alexander Keith's, or something from the fine folks at Sleeman?

Kungaloosh! and Cheers!

I would bring him Alexander Keith's. No offense but Molson, Labatt's, etc. are your run of the mill beers that taste just like American beers. If you want something uniquely Canadian, something like Keith's works and it tastes great. (Of course, I am bias being in the city with the Ketih's brewery.)

What about something a bit less average, like Creemore, La Fin Du Moude, etc...

I'm pretty partial to Creemore Springs, personally. Its really nice, and crisp.

Are there any microbreweries in your area? My DSIL lives in Calgary are they drink microbrewery beer. May be interesting to bring something unique to your area. Can't give you any specifics because I don't like beer but my DH was impressed when we visited.

Wow, I think I am getting dizzy :faint:
Hmm, well, my idea was just for him to get a taste of Canadian Beer,
to see how different it is than the U.S. beer, nothing really fancy really,
I don't think he's picky about his beer, so perhaps I will go with
Molson Canadian or Blue. Thanks for all your input!

A case of Sleeman Honeybrown would also be good but for the old standby get a case of Blue can't go wrong with Labatts product.

Okay - I have to add my two cents worth. I drink beer, my drink of choice, and I also have been to 2 beer schools. Molson Canadian, no offense, is referred to by all the beer teachers I have met, as the "pee" of beer. It is cheap to make and really gross. Once you taste beer with longer manufacturing time, you really begin to understand that run of the mill beer just isn't that great.
So, in my honest opinion, I would get him microbrewery beer, or perhaps, something like Sleeman's honey brown, or Alexander Keith's is nice as well. If you get them something like Canadian, Coors light, or Blue, it would be just like drinking Bud, and that's not a change for them.
Just my thoughts,
Jo

Agreed.
Since you're in Calgary, any of the Big Rock brews (Grasshopper is lovely) would be a fine representative.

Currently, I'm enjoying a Kawartha Lakes Raspberry Wheat. That's very nice.

This sounds really good....which microbrewery does this beer come from?

I love this thread. My vote is also for Alexander Keith's or Moosehead. Another decent one is the pilsner style beer you can get from Toronto called Steam Whistle. It's good and sharp, but in my opinion tastes better from the bottle. I think that is what they call blasphemy isn't it?
