Best Buy dropped our computer

Yes, I did and they told me to call Minnesota because Best Buy is based out of there. I was putting off that phone call because I was supposedly having a meeting with the store. BUT....they still haven't called. I think that they are putting me off until the computer actually reaches the store and they check it out.

I found it so interesting that our Atty General's office knew right away without looking it up that Best Buy is out of MN. I bet they get a lot of phone calls regarding Best Buy!!

9 News does the I team reports but those are usually local businesses.

Tom does Fox and one of the radio stations.

I had hoped this was getting resolved better than this...I love Best Buy... but now you've got me scared. No way, no how am I going over to Circuit City. There aren't many other choices here other than those two...what's a girl to do??

I am scared to go to either place now. I have heard absolute horror stories with Circuit City and now my mom experiencing this with Best Buy. Not many places left...maybe Ultimate Electronics, Comp USA???

You know, BB is using YOUR extended warranty for THEIR benefit. That is so wrong! I'd be livid. You need to stop them from giving you the run around. I would camp at that store until I spoke with the manager in person AND got satisfaction. I'd be polite but firm. You should get a refund! I wouldn't want a computer from them after all you have been through.

I would detail the hoops you have been through with the store manager. The admission that the computer has been dropped, the departments you have contacted within BB, and the agencies you have contacted outside of BB. I would add it isn't acceptable and you want a refund. Period. And if the store manager won't give you the refund, tell him you will go higher. And do it! Keep going up and stay in contact with the other agencies.

People have told me in the past that this and that won't work, but I am very persuasive when it comes to stuff like this. I see it through every time to my satisfaction. I'm like you, I tell them to put themselves in my shoes. Persistance will be the key.

Good luck and keep us posted! :goodvibes

Wow OceanAnnie. I loved your post. I am being persistant with the store. I contacted 1-800-bestbuy per the store's advice and I talked to two people. One of them told me that HE was the highest I, as a consumer, could go. I told him that I know that he has to answer to someone and I wanted to talk to him. Once again, he said that HE was the highest I could go to in corporate Best Buy. NOW WHAT??? I have no names, no numbers, no anything. I am calling the store everyday. Sheez, what's a girl to do????

I have to tell you guys that I thank you from the bottom of my heart. All your posts reassure me that I am doing the right thing. Your help and suggestions are wonderful. Hugs to all of you!

JiminyC_fan, I feel for you. I'm sorry I came across so strong, like I know all the answers. I don't by any means. This kind of stuff just makes me sooo mad! :furious: You do sound like you try to exhaust all avenues (just as I do).

Does the receipt state satisfaction garaunteed (sp)? I used this in a Wal-Mart dispute. I reminded them of their policy and it helped.

What does the policy state on the back of the receipt? What do they state about refunds/returns (sorry if it's already been covered)? Ask about exceptions to the policy and what you would have to do to get one. Remind them that they didn't live up to their end of the bargain. They have your money and you have an inferior product (because they dropped it). I think I'd still badger the store manager in person (in a polite manner -- hard to do). He should have the authority to make it right.

I hope some of these ideas might help. I do wish you well with this. :goodvibes

ETA- I agree with you. I don't think the fella that stated he was as high as it goes was truthful. I've asked for managers/supervisors before (from other companies) and got an attitude and the long, long wait and no one ever came. They don't want to deal with it.

Not Comp USA according to a friend. Not Sears from my own experience. There's not even mom & pop stores anymore.

I went by the Best Buy in question last night and thought of you all. Maybe the local guys have their panties in a wad over the move??? A girl can dream.

OceanAnnie, you didn't come across too strong. I love all your advice! I think the store manager is playing a game of hide and seek. Believe me, he is doing a great job.

Theresa, we used to like Soundtrack for TV's but never had a problem so we don't know how they would respond to something like this.

What do you people think of Comp USA?

OH MY GOSH!!!! You guys will never guess this in a million years. We haven't heard from Best Buy in two days so we stopped by the store tonight. Low and behold the computer was delivered to the store late last night. And guess what????? It was DAMAGED AGAIN. We spoke with another type of manager and he did get to see the damage this time. As he was talking to us the drive door kept falling off unto the counter. He then told us he was going to talk with a geek and another manager on duty as to what to do next. He fouond out that they already knew that it was damaged and sent a damage report fax to the insurance company. They have to follow all protocol so we sit and wait to hear what the insurance company will now do for us. Quite honestly this is getting to be quite hilarious. Stay tuned.......

:cool1:  WOO HOO !!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!! :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

I just got a phone message from Best Buy. :woohoo: They said that we can get a new computer!!! In a way I was hoping for a check but at least we get a NEW computer. They said to hurry in. I am so excited. That still doesn't restore my faith in them. It took a second drop to get this final decision

In the UK we have the Citizens Advice Bureau. It is a free service and they will advise you on your rights re this sort of thing. Many years ago I bought a portable remote controlled tv from a big electrical goods store. After a wee while it would start changing channels of its own accord. I would be really into a programme and ..poof...I'd be watching something else. I never got to follow a plot.
I contacted the store and they took it in, and returned it saying nothing wrong. It did it again. Put it in to them again....no fault. Contacted CAB who said try the Telecommunications folk incase of illegal radio activity in the area. They came out and checked the neighbourhood and put filters on the aerial. Still did it. Changed batteries in remote more times than I could afford just in case.
Eventually got back to CAB who 'dictated' an appropriate letter which should get action...they obviously hadn't dealt with the store manager before because all he did was take it back in then send it back out saying no fault.

Spoke to my chum at CAB again ( who was by this time on first name terms) who suggested I go for the jugular and turn up on a Saturday, at the busiest time, to the store and sit on a washing machine in the store and loudly complain about the bad service and shout out what had happened despite the warranty. Whilst I didn't actually do that, I called the manager and told him I WOULD do it if he didn't sort this out next day. Next day I took my old tv in and came out with a brand new replacement which is now at my folks and still working 20 odd years later. My only regret is taking it back in its original packaging as I'm sure it went back into stock and some other poor soul was left jumping channels.

Make a public nuisance of yourself in the store ( or threaten to do so) but only after you are sure of your rights and have given them a reasonable chance to resolve the issue.

Moral of the story; threaten to cause maximum mayhem.

YEAH!!!!!

Stick to the little things for awhile...let them get this crud worked out.

I went in to the Park Meadows one last night and thought of you. While one girl was curt (not her fault completely...my husband is a doofus) we had a wonderful young man hunt all over the store for the Disney movies that were 5 for $30 and not in their spots. Great sport!!

Congrats on your persistance and a fortuitous second drop LOL. I imagine you wouldn't be getting a new computer had the second drop not occured.

Also, be sure to get your FULL original money's worth. If you paid $600 for your original computer, don't get a new computer for $400 and let them call it even.

I had a credit, but because two years had occured between my buying the device and their stalling, the new devices weren't as expensive. So, I got some extra stuff. Get your money's worth, not your item's worth, if you know what I mean.

Ya, I bet I will have to fight to get what is coming to me. I was told the other day that I had a top of the line computer back when we bought it so I hope to get the top of the line now. The prices have remained about the same so hopefully we will be fine. I still plan on buying another extended warranty on it even though it is Best Buy. I think I could have put out BIG BUCKS this last time if we hadn't purchased it.

Huggles, your post made me think of our tv back when we were kids. Remotes were new back then (ok, now you know I'm old). Everytime our dog shook his collar or my baby brother would crunch on crackers the tv would change. Glad it worked out for you.

Babytrees, I thought of you the other night too. One of the Park Meadows mgr came over to the So Wads store. Actually, he is the one that saw the second damage. He was so embarrassed. I knew that he would work for us.

Frantasmic, I loved your wording of a "fortuitous second drop". It is what saved us that is for sure.

We used to buy EVERYTHING electronic at Best Buy until I realized that whenever I would send in for Rebates, they would never arrive. Combine that with poor customer service, and we now buy electronics at Circuit City and ahave never looked back.

Oh, I am so there with you! I could have written this myself. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER would I buy anything from Best Buy again!

One of these days we're going to cross paths and not even know it!! :wave2:

We actually got a better computer when our first one died.....you stick to your guns!!

After hanging out at Best Buy for three days in a row we finally have the new one. We were able to get the top computer that they have in the store. It has so many new fangled stuff that it is making my head spin. If we didn't accidentally stop in one day and have this one manager on duty, I don't think we would have gotten this far. The one we WERE dealing with and who is over the one that did it all won't speak to us or even look at us. I didn't drop it, it was HIS employees!!!!!
