After a day at AK, I thought our group would like to check out AK lodge and have dinner at one of their restaurants. Never been there. Can you tell me your favs and why? Thanks for your help.

It's pretty easy.

There is Jiko which is a sit down, nice but not too fancy, restaurant. The menu can seem a bit "different" to some but I believe even the pickier eaters can find something there. They have great flat breads, steak and chicken. I have heard their macaroni and cheese is a terrific side dish but I haven't tried it. Jiko is probably our favorite restaurant on property. The huge South African wine list helps!

Then there is Boma which is a great buffet meal. There are all kinds of African dishes to try as well as plenty of American options. We really like Boma, but we are pretty adventurous when it comes to eating.

The counter service at AKL is Mara. I only ate here once while at the pool. They have a bit more than your standard cheeseburger and nuggets. They have African Stew, flat bread, chicken, and that macaroni and cheese.

The new restaurant is Sanaa. It is in the new Kidani Village building which is the addition to AKV. It is a bit of a walk (10 min.) or a short bus ride from the original building. We haven't been to Sanaa yet but from the reviews, it is on our to-do list. You can see the animals on the savannah right from the restaurant. I recommend you checkout the menu on allears.net.

There are so many good choices for food at AKL, but it really depends on the eating preferences of your group. For my family, AKL food can't be beat. But I wouldn't want to choose for anyone else. Check out the menus for all the restaurants. And have fun!

We are trying Boma this year after spending a day at AK. I've heard nothing but great things about it.

Jiko-By far the best overall. Many consider it best resturant at Disney.

Jiko-Best for couples
Best for top wines
Best for quality food
Best for service.

Boma-Best for families.
Best for kids
Best for selection
Best for Breakfast.

So best is really depends on what your group is and what you want out
of your meal.

Boma is awesome! So many things to try and some old favorites. The pineapple cheescake is to die for!

Can animals be seen from the Jiko restaurant? We're trying to decide between Jiko and Sanaa

Jiko used to be in our top disney 5, but has moved way to the bottom.

I would recommend Sanna (it is wonderful) if you want a sit down.

Boma if you want a buffet experience.

You can't go wrong with either.

It depends on what type of dinning experiance you are looking for.

Jiko is a great place for a higher end meal. We love the filet and the overall feel of the place.

Boma is a buffet that has a louder family friendly atmosphare.

Mara is the AKL's food court and the fried shrimp plate is my fav.

Boma is nice but Jiko is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere on property. One caution, though: It's quite expensive, dinner for two is in the $100 range, more if you hit that wine list hard.

I don't believe animals can be viewed from Jiko. The restaurant is by the pool. I've never been in Sanaa so I don't know about that one.

Since we are staying at AKV this year, I have booked both Boma breakfast and dinner and Sanaa dinner. I'm sure we'll try out the Mara as well. I have seen great reviews on all of AKL's dining choices.

My family loves Boma. The visit to AKL always makes it so special.

Jiko is our favorite order off menu restaurants at WDW and Boma is our favorite Buffet restaurant. So either one would be a fantastic choice.

No animals at Jiko... unless you count the human kind. :lmao:

Sanaa is built overlooking the new savannah at Kidani so wonderful animal views... ask for a table by the window. :thumbsup2 Menu is available at http://allears.net/menu/menus.htm Wonderful atmosphere and deliciously different food! :goodvibes

Boma is very good a 1 tbs .
Never been to Jiko it's a 2 tbs service and heard all good.

Boma is a wonderful family buffet hall, a little noisy with a lot of hustle bustle. It has a very good variety of African/American etc. food.

Jiko is more of a dining experience. Really excellent food and wine pairings.

We did exactly as you have planned, left AK near closing the had dinner at the AK Lodge. We loved Boma and felt very comfortable there in our park clothes. I wouldn't feel quite as "well dressed" for Jiko, I'd want a shower before that dining experience.

Sanaa isn't quite as fancy, but a more unique menu so I'd get everyone's buy in before booking it place. It does get pretty great reviews for views, atmosphere and food. I think the post park look would play fine there.
