I got an email from one of my early December WDW trip friends last night. I am devastated right now, but my grief cannot match hers. Her DH died while out biking with friends yesterday. He was only 45 and in good health. He and Sandy have 4 children, 3 in college and one a senior in HS. It is beyond my ability to comprehend right now.

Elin, I'm so sorry to hear this - how very tragic. Sending good thoughts your way and hers as well.

Well, we've decided to cancel our Christmas trip. Whogirl was crying about missing her class winter party, afraid I wouldn't decorate if we went, just wanting things like normal, dh doesn't feel like going, my poor mom is still in no shape at all to think about a trip. Ahh, it's just too depressing, so we're looking at our spring break, April 10(Sat.)-April 18 in hopes that our spirits will be higher then.

That stinks. I'm sorry.

:sad1: That is horrible. Sending good thoughts their way.

Jamie - I am sorry you have had to change your plans. We are all in that same boat from time to time but it is sad to have to let go of a planned trip.

Thanks, Elin. Now that it's been decided, it's almost a relief. The upside is that Olivia will finally get to be at Disney on her actual birthday and she is soooo excited.

I am so sorry! That is just terrible; already said a prayer for her family.

Oh Elin,

I am so sorry about this. I couldn't even begin to comprehend what your friend is going through.

My prayers to you, your friend and her family. I'm so sorry.

And, since it's going to be the holidays anyway, you'll have something to take your mind off of it. Hope your spring trip happens! :wizard:

And thanks for the replies ... I'll plan on another thread, then. YAY!! :goodvibes :grouphug:
Thanks for all you do. It's much appreciated!:goodvibes

That must have been a hard decision. Sounds like you have a great plan for the spring. :cool1:

I am so, so sorry to hear of your friend's loss. I will keep their family in my prayers. My mom was widowed in her 30's. It is such a hard road, especially in the early weeks and months.

It's been a little too cold here. The low last night was 12. Yikes. Here's hoping it will warm up a bit.
Most of our Vegas trips are tied to business, but we'll be making one in Dec with dear old friends. We met in Germany, when we were having our first babies. Those "little ones" are now 27.
I'm trying to make sure everything is set, we are especially looking forward to going to Jersey Boys with them.

As everyone here knows, friends near and far are such a blessing! :goodvibes

Anyone have their holiday menu(s) planned yet?

I don't see why you couldn't just order your own. :lmao: The price was right for the size of the drink and the amount of booze, don't you think?

I think it's an excellent price for a drink that size :thumbsup2 and I like rum, so I think it would work just fine for me :goodvibes

The cheap drunk in me was excited today at a liquor store ad in the Sunday paper. Riunite D'Oro 3 litre for $12.99 a bottle! :thumbsup2 I will need it to get the tree up and decorated in a couple of weeks.

Jaime, I'm sorry it's not working out for your December trip. I understand what's it's like to cancel a trip you've been looking forward to

Anyone have their holiday menu(s) planned yet?

We ordered the turkey roulade from Dean & Deluca - they have a new stuffing this year that Jay is going to love (corn meal & jalapeno peppers). There are never more than six of us at Thanksgiving so cooking a turkey is not worth the effort - I don't really like turkey anyway so now we don't have to worry about gacky leftovers.

I'm also planning on creamy butternut squash soup, sweet potatoe souffle, bird rolls ala Jon, some kind of steamed vegetable as yet to be determined, cherry tarts, and cinammon ice cream. And some cheeses and bread for snacking.

Brandy milk punch will be availble for a select group ... read: Jay and me!

I came back from Vegas late afternoon, so now I'm catching up.

Robin: Disney Store, circa 1995. They put the menorah in a "home for the holidays" Christmas box. Go figure. I haven't seen anything like it since.

I don't remember all the comments about disaster movies, but I would want to see it. I liked "Independence Day" and "Day After Tomorrow". So maybe I'd enjoy this, too.

Elin: I'm sorry about your friend's loss.

And for those who don't have me on Facebook, I enjoyed my food, my booze, and getting a surprise over my shoulder at Table 10. Emeril came out to greet friends of his dining at a table kitty-corner behind us. I really wanted to snap a photo, but my upbringing just wouldn't allow me to intrude upon his privacy!

And I posted in Chelsi's food report that I said "Suck it, Disney!" after having foie gras in Vegas. At least they don't ban it there. I have plenty of food porn. I think we need another thread just for that. ;)

Welcome Home! :goodvibes Glad you had such an enjoyable trip ... I'm looking forward to seeing and reading all about the delectables you had. :thumbsup2

2012 was a hoot but a tad bit too long. If you liked the other two movies you mentioned (as did we) then you should like this one just fine, too.

If I had my way, we would just go for Chinese this year. "Fa ra ra ra ra..."

:rotfl::rotfl2:

Considering it was only yesterday morning when DH pointed out to me that T-Day is next week......I'm still working on my plans ;) I thought I had another week  It'll be pretty much the same as it is every year: spinach pies & sausage balls for appies, turkey, stuffing & dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberry relish, sweet potatoes w/marshmallows, pumpkin pie. Then there'll be another veggie of some sort, rolls probably and another dessert.

The hardest part of planning is my sisters family and their food allergies. My nephew has completely outgrown his and can eat everything now :thumbsup2but my 2 yr old niece has dairy/peanut and unfortunately the baby has tested positive for dairy allergy and since she's still nursing, my sister can't eat any offending foods :sad2: That means no butter on the turkey, or in the stuffing. We usually make 2 batches of mashed potatoes, a safe version & a good one ;) It makes it complicated but it's worth it to all be together :goodvibes

Oh my. I am so very thankful we don't have allergies in my family. I'm too lazy to deal. I have had so many friends with kids with allergies....I just wish we could figure out what's making them so prevalent now.:guilty:

As for my T-day plans, dh is taking the kids to his parents, so I am going to have the weekend to myself!! :yay:

It is a PITA sometimes, ok most of the time but the kids are cute. I feel bad for my sister who has to deal with it everyday.

A weekend alone sounds good, but I can't imagine not cooking for an army for the holiday. Even before we had kids, I'd have Jon bring home some of the single sailors from the ship that didn't have family nearby.
