Hey my fellow foodies - We were going to try Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch, never been and would have probably ordered sandwiches, but I'm a bit leery of this one. Am thinking of either Grand Floridian Cafe, The Wave or KONA, haven't been to those for lunch, any thoughts or recommendations????

I've been to all four of those places for lunch, the Wave once, and the others twice each.

All are good, GF Cafe is probably my favorite of the four, followed closely by Kona, though I prefer dinner at Kona over lunch. The Wave and LTT are both good too though.

I really like the shrimp appetizer at GF Cafe, but the last updated menu I saw it's not on, but there's a shrimp with champagne scampi sauce over lobster bread pudding that is to die for. (Insert drooly smiley here if we ever get one, LOL.)

Kona is my favorite as far as desserts go, love the Kahula (pretty sure I spelled that wrong,) chocolate lava cake.

The Wave has a very interesting menu, and good food. And LTT is good, but nothing fancy.

I have reviews from GF Cafe and Wave for lunch in my current dining reviews, (link in my signature, and on the first page of this thread,) as well as dinner at Kona, and I have another GF Cafe review to add as well as lunch at LTT.

Heather - no more sickies at your house!

Oh no, hopefully everyone is feeling better.

Heather, hope everyone at your house starts to feel better soon.

Thanks for the well wishes guys....it looks like Mike may have a touch of it, but nothing as severe as what the kids and I had. But he's got an iron stomach and a much better immune system than the rest of us have! And quite frankly, I'm not sure what was worse....the stomach bug, or having to watch Disney Channel non-stop for 2 days to keep Emma occupied!

Oh the sacrifices I'm making for my kid's education. :rotfl: Now if I could write off said sacrifices that would be a dream. Do you think the IRS would understand my warped thinking on the matter? :rotfl2:

Allison, I was surfing around online today and happened to notice that they have a 2 qt Williams-Sonoma ice cream maker on sale for $80 and you get a $20 gift card to boot! For that price, who needs a write-off?

I am so exhausted right now, I just ran a mile, which isn't that much, but it's so hot right now, and I'm just about ready to pass out.

Once I regain conciousness, I plan to make the following for dinner; steak topped with boursin, (Brenda had to give me the idea last night I spent a small fortune on goat cheese this afternoon,) pasta with creamy pesto sauce, and a tomato and goat cheese salad.

I'm also going to bake something. I'm debating between butterscotch pudding cake and peanut butter-chocolate bars. Probably the cake since that sounds easier to make and I'll be lazy after cooking dinner.

Sounds delicious! And I'm very impressed that you have the energy to make a dinner like that followed by a scratch made dessert after running a mile. Because quite frankly, I could probably only accomplish one of those things in a day, not all three!

The cake uses a mix as it's base, so I am cheating a little. ;)

Elin- Congrats to you and Bob for 36 years. I'm only at 27 years , so I still have a bit to go to catch up. :rotfl: Beautiful wedding pictures, I love the hats. :goodvibes

TigerKat- I have only had lunch at Kona. We have eaten there three times, only once for lunch. Every time the food has been good, but the service very slow.

Brenda,
I hope you and Jay are enjoying the baseball game and the box seats. I was at the old Busch Stadium once for a game, no box seats though. I was visiting my relatives in Florissant, MO. We visited the arch and the brewery while we were there as well ;)

Thanks! I am off to check this out. Of course I have to get the green light from my kitchen snob son. All kitchen product must have his stamp of approval. :confused3 Sounds like a great deal to me.

Thanks, once again, for all the anniversary wishes! Bob never did figure it out! :rotfl: But once Kristin told him we were going out for dinner in CELEBRATION he looked at his watch and said, "Oh, darn!" Well, he didn't say that, but you get the picture. I will share food porn and our schedule tomorrow as I have had a little bit too much beer to drink tonight! :goodvibes

Hope you had a wonderful celebration! Congrats!!:goodvibes

(And that's too funny about your DH looking at his watch...and the date dawning on him. )

The game started 90 minutes later than it was supposed to due to rain delays ... we had a good time but left after 5 innings (it was already 10PM). Now that we're home the score has changed from 0-0 to 10-0 Cardinals, so at least the good guys are winning even if we didn't get to see any of it. We had a good time with our friends, so that counts for a lot!

You guys wanna now how bad traffic in Stinktown is? It's a 45-mile drive from our house to the stadium - on the drive downtown we were delayed by seven different traffic incidents ... four accidents and three stalls all on the same stretch of highway. There were two more on our way home from the stadium tonight. :headache:

I sometimes wonder if the problem is that many of these people have family trees that don't fork. ;););)

:rotfl2: What a glorious way to describe the problem! :rotfl2:

I am glad you guys got to go to a game but sorry you really didn't see a game. I can identify with your traffic issues. Getting to a Nationals game in DC is a nightmare too.

We had a good time with better than average food and beer last night. It was our first foray into a new “authentic British Pub” in our ‘burg.

Atmosphere was great with light fixtures that caught the eye, lots of wood and a fun ceiling!

Unbeknownst to us we had arrived during Happy Hour so our pints were half price (the better to drink two, you know!) Most of my pictures are not particularly good and I will skip the worst of the lot!

Boddington’s….. yum!
th_0728091835.jpg

We had an interesting appetizer: Tavern Crisps ~ House-made crisps (potato chips) topped with English farmhouse Cheddar, bacon, scallions and Pub BBQ sauce. The crisps were crispy and the toppings were plentiful.

Kristin had a Cotswold Chicken Sandwich made with a Worcestershire-marinated chicken breast, rashers of bacon, grilled onions and Swiss Cheese on a toasted onion bun. It came with a pickle and chips (big fries). No photo. It looked nice, she liked it, it was eaten!

Bob and I each chose the Fish and Chips. It was as good as Rose & Crown’s. I have had better, but this was good. No complaints at all.

We all split a Guinness Brownie Sundae that was fine. Very dense, dark chocolate brownie. Almost like a flourless cake in texture. It came with vanilla-bean ice cream, chocolate sauce and almonds. Again, nice but not amazing.

We got exactly what we were after. Nice food, good beer and a fun location to spend a couple of hours. The price was very good, we thought. The total bill (without gratuity) was under $70. We will go again. They have an amazing bar but the pictures are just awful:

I will try to rectify that next time. ;)

Glad you got to see the game and the Cards won, I fell asleep last night when the Sox were up 6-3, they lost in 11 innings :sad2:!
We've got the same problem trying to get to Fenway. 1/2 hour drive that can easily take more than 1 hour because of the Boston traffic.

Looks like a fun pub with good food and you can't beat the price!

Thanks, everyone! Sometimes I am impressed that we have made it this long. Other times I am amazed he is still alive.

I think the same thing about Jon....although our 18 years is a drop in the bucket to your 36

All I can say is that I love the Colony Salad at LTT. I wouldn't eat dinner at LTT, but I do like their lunch.

sorry you didn't get to stay for the whole game

That salad does sound really good! Decisions, decisions.....

Have a great day all!:thumbsup2

Sounds like you had a great time! And I thought your pictures were good, and looked yummy. :goodvibes

I have always wanted to try Boddington's, ever since I've seen it featured on an episode of Friends. But I can't find it for sale anywhere without buying a whole case, and I just don't drink that much beer.

Glad you had a good time even with the delays. It's been too long since I've been to a baseball game. No comparison between being there and watching it on TV.

I had to scurry over to the menus to see the salad.. "Washington apples, sweet pecans, applewood smoked cheddar cheese, and grilled chicken tossed with field greens in a honey-shallot vinaigrette" Now that sounds like one yummy salad!
