Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

Chelle, way to go on training your daughter right! :thumbsup2 Maybe whogirl can be our ADR person in a few more years, seeing as how she's such an early riser. And I think you stole our bunny cake....I brought the ears home from my mom's.

Honeybee, sorry about the bunny! :flower3: Thank goodness our cat has settled into middle age and just watches the neighbor's cats wreak havoc on our wildlife. He used to keep our garage full of bird feathers and little mice feet! :scared:

If you want to dine at V&A then you should ... they are very accomodating there and if you share your concerns with them upfront the chef and maitre'd will do everything they can to make a special menu for him. The night that Jay and I dined at the Chef's Table we were just finishing up and Chef Hunnel had disappeared ... our waitress told us a little while later that there was a guest in the dining room who wouldn't eat anything but cheese and bread and had literally driven the poor chef to distraction.

In a less formal restaurant chef Hunnel might have taken a very sharp, very long knife and run screaming from the kitchen into the dining room to teach that patron a thing or two about food, but at V&A he just simmered under his hat. ;)

My point is that if your hubby doesn't like seafood, don't worry because they will have plenty of meaty options for him to choose from. Beef ... Kobe Beef ... Wagyu Beef ... Pork ... Buffalo ... Ostrich ... Elk ... and others that I'm sure we haven't tried or don't remember trying.

This post jumped right off the page for me, Brenda! Bob and I have never eaten at V&A for those very same reasons. When we go to Citricos he will peer longingly into V&A and say he wished we could eat there. Then he looks at the menu and shakes his head and says, "I wouldn't eat half this stuff." He is so dejected-sounding! Maybe I can persuade him that it is a possibility for us. I assume fore-warning for Chef Hunnel would be most appreciated, as opposed to springing MeatAndTaters Man on him the night of the meal. ;)

Although not gourmet fare, I thought I would share with you all one of our local hangouts.

Last night I was done teaching at 7:00 so I met Bob and Kristin at
logo.gif

for $1 Burger Night! You read that right, folks... $1.00 for a half pound Certified Angus Beef Burger with lettuce, tomato and caramelized onions. Add cheese to that burger and it costs a whopping $1.50.

Order a specialty burger (The Maytag Burger: Melted Maytag Bleu Cheese is on this tasty burger, topped with lettuce, ripe tomato, caramelized onions and dill mayonnaise, The Smokehouse Burger: Applewood-smoked bacon and smoked Gouda cheese top this burger with lettuce, ripe tomato, caramelized onions and house beer-b-que sauce or The Southwestern Burger: Our half pound Certified Angus Beef Burger with southwestern seasonings, grilled and topped with Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheese) and you will only pay $2.00.

The catch? You have to buy a beer. :drinking1
With 62 craft and import beers on draught and over 300 selections of bottled beers it is not a difficult task for us! You can also order wine or a cocktail instead.

So, for $50 (which included a 20% tip based on the pre-discounted price) had a beer, a great burger and two shared desserts. Not a bad way to start the work week off! :goodvibes

Yes ... I really think that if you give them some advance warning they will customize as best they can. They ask questions about allergies and such when you first book and then call back to confirm about a week before your scheduled dinner to go over those things again and to discuss anything else you might want or need. That's usually when I've placed orders for cakes or other special items.

BTW ... nothing from the nephew. I called twice and emailed and got nothing ... Sometimes he is just like my brother who could be the most thoughtless, inconsiderate berk.

And then I've got Jay refusing to call his grandmother. Saturday was her 94th birthday (which I didn't know) and Jay's dad called us and specifically asked that we call and wish her a happy b-day. I agreed because Jay's dad never asks us for anything and here we are three days later and my husband hasn't called.

I told him last night not to make me the bad guy on this one. I barely know his grandmother and feel very strongly that Jay should be the one to initiate the phone call and jesus-pleasus .... the man gets home from work by 3PM - he's got plenty of time to workout and play with the wii but not five minutes to spare to call his dessicated granny? :lmao:

What the hell is wrong with the men in my life???

What the hell is right?!:headache:

She's not your grandmother.:confused3 I hate it when I'm made to feel like I should do that crap because my reproductive organs are all neatly tucked away. I have to write the thank you cards, I have to remind dh to call his family. It's 2009!! Oh, and my son had better do all those things on his own without his wife or whatever having to remind him.

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2: LOVED this!! And I agree! why the heck???? Mine does the same thing. :confused3:sad2:

:flower3::flower3::flower3:I posted this on the main restaurant thread and was ignored, so I figured it is better to go STRAIGHT to the source. (s)

Rosa Regale is AWESOME. Bought a bottle last night to pair with easter candy (very good, btw) and it is the FIRST WINE (besides champagne) that my husband has enjoyed enough to care to pour himself a glass.

Y'all just rock. Our systems at work have been down for 4 hours and I have just read this entire thread (having "met" Bendy via TR's...) YAY! People with food/Booze obsessions and great senses of humour...as a newbie (planning a trip for 2010) can I ask questions here?

Picking up another bottle of Rosa Regale on the way home...more candy to eat!

Again, thanks!:flower3:

I can sympathize, Brenda, men just don't think about stuff like that. He really SHOULD call his grandmother, 94 is not young, and he would hate to have any regrets...(I think I'm channeling my MIL tonight :rotfl2:) It's hard to lay the guilt on your nephew if he won't even call. I will let dh off the hook for not buying gifts for his family, remembering birthdays, etc. because he does so much for my parents who are much older.

I hope Handsome Pete is still in your favor!

Welcome Bootiful! You can always ask questions on here!

:worship::rotfl2::worship:

Amen sister! That's why I nag once or twice and then let it go. It's one of the reasons that Jay's mom disapproves of me ... I don't make him call or force him to sit through family dinners every week (selfishly because I don't want to either ... :lmao:).

Ah well ... no one knows how to be the bad guy better than me. Just fill up my champagne glass and allow me to give the toast.

"ahem..." glass raised in the air ... "TO EVIL!" :rotfl2:

Welcome to the madhouse and thanks for joining us! I'm so glad you liked the Rosa ... I have to credit many fine people here with turning us on to it as well. :goodvibes

You may ask any questions that you'd like ... everyone here has a ton of Disney / food / booze knowledge that they'd be only too happy to share. So don't be a stranger and thanks for reading!

Just bought our airfare from Southwest for October ... $378 round-trip, nonstop from Stinktown to Orlando and then back. I didn't expect to find $84 per person fares this far out but when given a giftie from the travel gods one does not question ... one books the airfare!

Even better ... we had $500 in SW gift cards from my parents and now have about $120 leftover for (hopefully) a Vegas trip next May if the cards all fall the right way.

Check the fares at Southwest, friendies ... and see if you, too, can get a deal! :thumbsup2

I wish we had Southwest here...I think the closest is in Raleigh and that's a four hour drive. I do have good news, we'll be going to California after all! My aunt got her condo she had an offer on and she wants us to visit this summer. So, bye bye Myrtle Beach--I'm devastated! :rotfl2: The fares aren't too bad from what I've seen; it's the rental car that's crazy. I'm trying to figure out which airport/rental car combo is the cheapest. Maybe take a cab to a car place away from the airport...We have never rented one in LA, it's outrageous!

Yay for maybe going to Vegas, too! :cool1:

I booked today too Bendy!

Yippee!

Woo hoo for California! You will have a great time! :thumbsup2

As for Vegas ... since the uncorked stuff seems to take place over the same time frame as Jay's birthday we really have a great reason to get out there next year for his 40th. I am going to do everything within my power to make sure we get out there for four or five days next May over his birthday (mmmm, fooooooood!).

Thanks for posting this Brenda! I hadn't checked lately to see about booking for October, but thanks to your post I crossed that off my to do list! Woooohoooo! $89 each way was pretty good for us. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome - it is really appreciated!

I have so many questions I am afraid to ask...

Y'all all seem like DVC members - this will be the first trip since I was three, but we might have a 4 year old (my niece) with us - I am so confused by resort options my head is spinning.

I don't think we are Value folks, at least not right now...more GF (oy the price!) or POFQ but we KNOW NOLA, and I'm not sure about a fake one...the Poly leaves me cold...

How rude. Just rude. Y'all don't know me!

My husband I got married last year and, although we live in Houston, we got married in NOLA and had our reception at Galatoire's.

We did Cochon (pork cheeks!) and Commander's (everything!) at Mardi Gras - we don't really eat out in H-town, unless it is Tex-Mex or BBQ or a friend grilling - my husband is from Ireland, and he THOUGHT he was a food simpleton until I got him eating right. Now, it is Crispy Quail at Bayonna, Pate when I feel like it, and Foie Gras (did I spell that right? I sure hope so, 'cause it was in capitalized....) whenever we can.

He is not an oenophile - beer all the way, but he likes Rosa Regale, so he has some hope.

I am planning the great Flowers/Ashley trip of 2010 - we all like to eat, we all have high aesthetic standards, and we love to have fun.

Does that help? (Did I actually ask a question? Have I highjacked? Oh, God...am I in trouble because I haven't read Northhanger Abbey? Is that the name? I am well versed in the Jasper Fforde...does that count?)

Raising a glass of Rosa Regale to you!

We got our Southwest flight home today also! It's a great deal! We already booked a red-eye on Delta. I figure I might as well have the extra time at Epcot then a day on the plane!

Yippee!

Yes, the Uncorked is always the weekend of Mother's Day! Jason's Mom lives less then two hours north from Vegas so we can't sneek in for it without a visit. I keep trying for the "hey wouldn't this be a great thing to do for Mother's Day" but so far no go! Come people you live in St George Utah! :)

Cochon!!!!! One place I have to do! Commander's is Great! What a place to get married!
Welcome by the way!:flower3:

You haven't read Northanger Abbey? That was two food trippies ago at least ... :lmao:

I'm not going to be very helpful with accomodations ... the only non DVC property we've stayed at was the Caribbean Beach Resort and that was about 8 years ago. We liked it and it was nice enough but it's just a hotel room ... nothing too special in our opinion.

Ooooh... Commander's Palace ... we luuuuuuuved it there! :thumbsup2

Have you considered dining at Victoria & Albert's?
