Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

What do y'all think of Biergarten? I'm having a hard time deciding where to eat on Epcot days for our Dec. trip. I'm thinking it would be fun, but how is the food really? I do not eat any kind of cased sausage product, if that helps!:rotfl2: (not even Jimmy Dean sausage links) I'm finding myself wanting to go back to the same places I already like, but I feel like I should branch out a little.

Haven't been to Biergarten in a few years so here's what I remember: There is a good amount of sausage on the buffet, but not everything is sausage (I'm not a huge sausage fan, some links for breakfast :thumbsup2 that's about it:thumbsup2). I remember a pretty good roast chicken, some noodles and veal something??? Ok, mostly what I remember is DS wouldn't eat. We had figured he'd eat the hotdogs, but they were "real" hotdogs in a casing not ballparks :rolleyes1 The entertainment is fun :goodvibes

Here's what I'm thinking for the rest of the trip for sit down meals:

Day 1, MK--CRT lunch
Day 2, EP--Rose and Crown dinner
Day 3, DS--50's Prime Time lunch, Beaches and Cream dinner
Day 4, MK again--'Ohana dinner
Day 5, visiting resorts for Christmas decor--maybe Kona breakfast or tea room lunch at GF instead, Jiko dinner?
Day 6, EP again--
Haven't been to most of those in years (except Jiko, went in December :thumbsup2) They're all fun choices and I think I'm going to need to go back to a few of them.

There's so much Christmas stuff I want to do and see, it seems I'm having trouble finding time to eat! :lmao: Thought about the Cp package for one night in Epcot, but the prices are killing me, knowing what we'd probably spend just for a regular dinner at one of the places. I'm thinking maybe we'll try to do the standby line on the first EP day since it's a low crowd day. The 2nd Epcot day is supposed to be a 9 on the crowd calendar.

Yes, the prices on the Candlelight Package can knock your socks off :scared1: but WOW! I love going to Candlelight saw Edward James Olmos in 07 and Neil Patrick Harris in 08 :cool1: The 1st time we did it, we went to Garden Grill (which was the cheapest) and it was really good. This last time we went to LeCellier, for 4 of us it was very pricey (both kids are Disney "Adults") but it was wonderful!!! The package included beverage, appy, entree & dessert so at least for the price it included a lot more than we would have ordered.
Food was excellent (we've always had great meals there) Service was wonderful! DD15 was sick and didn't eat more than 3 bites of her soup :sad1: Our waitress packed her entire meal up for her to take back to the villa.

My other Epcot choice/recommendation would be Les Chefs de France. We had a wonderful meal there in Dec 07.

I need to start planning my July trip. Park hours just got posted and we are at 98 days, so I get to make ADR's soon

Thank you, all of you for your support and best wishes!!!! :grouphug: I passed the Disney College of Knowledge courses yesterday :cheer2: As soon as I get my graduation kit, I'll post pics :goodvibes

Now who's got a good celebratory drink recipe???

Congrats!!!
I do have some champagne in the fridge....I need to get back to Champagne to buy more champagne...

OK ... I've gotta share this because it's pee in your pants funny. I think everyone here will be OK with this but if it offends ... well, I apologize but I still think it's funny. :lmao:

The Beer Prayer

Our lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink.
Thy will be drunk, (I will be drunk),
At home as it is in the tavern.
Give us this day our foamy head,
And forgive us our spillage,
As we forgive those who spill against us.
And lead us not into incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers.
For thine is the beer, the bitter and the lager.

:worship::worship::worship::rotfl2:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Ah Bendy. I love beer.:cloud9:

Yeah, he's not real thrilled with your aiport. Nevermind the food, they got kicked out of the bar at 8pm--not for anything exciting but because the bar closes at 8pm :scared: What idiot decided that everything in the airport should close at 8? Unfortunately his 6:30 flight is now scheduled for almost 11pm central time getting into Charlotte at 1:40am edt. Even worse, it's his 3rd flight of the day. Left San Diego this morning, connected in Phoenix to STL to CLT (hopefully) but I have a bad feeling he'll be staying at the Marriott tonight :sad2:

Dude. 8PM? That's not a bar!

Win-kahhhhhs!!!!!!!!!!!

We've never eaten at Biergarten and despite the lure of fine beer, probably never will. Mostly it's the buffet thing but their menu just doesn't appeal to either of us very much.

I think you'd love Afternoon Tea at the GF, especially with all the holiday decor. Just be sure to get a server who will give you milk. ;)

Jiko for dinner is always a good choice ... we're going to try to get back there in October if time permits.

Have you ever tried Flying Fish? That might be a nice option for dinner on one of your Epcot days ... Or a late lunch at Chefs de France. I refuse to eat dinner at Chefs because it's almost the exact same menu they serve at lunch marked up by about $4-5 per dish. Not that Jay and I are exactly known for being frugal on vacation but that's one thing that really annoys me.

I LOVE Le Cellier, but we've been there the past two years, so I thought maybe I'd see how Jiko's filet stacked up. I keep thinking about the CP package just to make sure we have seat; I guess I've got enough time to figure that out--will those ressies open up early like usual or do you think they'll go to the 90 day system, too?

Did you do lunch or dinner at Chefs? There are things on both menus that look good.

I did take a peek at Biergarten on the food porn thread and it looks better than I thought. I love the way the interior looks, and if I can get all of our party to go (8) we won't have to sit with strangers. Dh wouldn't care; he will talk to anybody.

You'll have to post your adr list when you get it done! I'm jealous you get to go so soon, but not of the heat. Although, Charlotte in summer is not much different than Orlando in summer, is it? :rotfl:

But I saw a picture of a white wine flight!! If I get most of that down, maybe I won't notice what form of meat is on my plate.

I'm already picturing problems at the GF tea--dd doesn't like chocolate milk (the "special" tea) and we'll have to substitute white milk. :rolleyes1

Hmm, I'll have to look at Flying Fish; it all depends on the budget and how many Disney dollars we can rack up between now and then. I just hate that Spoodles will be closed because that was where I wanted to go that night! It was so good. Maybe I'll like the menu at the new place.

Hey, did you hear that the bill to allow TN residents to purchase wine out of state and bring it home, passed the House! Somehow, we were not aware of breaking the law when we bought wine at Biltmore or Harris Teeter in Asheville and brought it home.....Now if they'll just get it in the grocery stores.

Speaking of Biltmore, we are taking whogirl for her birthday in a couple of weeks. Shhh, she doesn't know yet. :tiptoe:

My dh does NOT eat sausage, and he LOVED it. Plenty of food, nice atmosphere, and good entertainment.
The beer flight could not have hurt either. LOL

In fact, he has requested going there again, and is willing to sacrifice Le Cellier.
:scared1:

Biergarten and Rose and Crown were his favs last time.

I just read it to Rick and he got a good :lmao:

'Chelle - lots of hugs and congrats to you for passing the first part of becoming a Disney Tour Agent. Maybe you'll get news ahead of time for things like dining specials. There's a rumor going around that perhaps they'll extend the free dining into October. If that's the case I'll be changing my dates and coming in October instead - hopefully at the same time as some of you.
I'm also going to book tickets to the Halloween party. Anyone else going to that?

I found myself in the Biergarten several times, primarily because I've been able to get in without an ADR & I wanted to sit down somewhere cool. Mom and I both like this restaurant - she's German and I went back and got my degree there and stayed for 9 years. The decor is charming and reminds me of a typical German town square - like somewhere in Bremen. I happen to love the cute little German towns as they are straight out of the fairytale books.

The food is not as good as you'll get in Germany but it's not terrible either. The pretzel bread is very going and the Bavarian cheesecake and Rote Gruetze is quite authentic and delicious. I'm not a fan of sausages because I have no idea what's going into them but the roast pork is good IF it hasn't been standing on the buffet for too long. BTW, the food in Germany is outstanding - just as good as Italy or France - and the prices are a lot better, in case anyone is heading to Europe.

Sarah, I saw your pics on the food porn thread, and they helped win me over! I did read those dining reviews many moons ago, but I can't keep straight who has eaten where. I did see some yummy things on your plates!

Tatania, thanks for the positive input, too! You know I probably should try our little German restaurant here in town to give myself an idea. I think I've decided to give this one a go!

Brenda--I thought of you at dinner tonight (yes we went out again). We tried a new funky grill and they had the most incredible decor. A wine tree! It was a metal frame and the wine bottles were branches (turn the bottle upside down and place over the metal branch). It was about 7 feet tall and four feet across. Then at one point dd looked up and said, "Look, it's a beer fly!" It was a dragonfly made out of wire with a beer bottle for the body. :lmao:

Suh-weeeet! A wine tree ... :thumbsup2

Jay and I tried planting a wide variety of corks from some of our favorite wines in the hopes that we could grow a wine tree. ;) It didn't work obviously, or we would be very wealthy and living in a warm, tropical climate. :lmao:

Off topic ... or this a new topic? Does it really matter?

I picked up a book yesterday at Borders that I've been wanting to read for some time: Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. It's his account of the 1996 Mt. Everest disaster in which several members of different climbing parties were lost near Everest's summit in a sudden storm.

I'm not an adventurous person ... it took a lot of encouragement from Jay for me to go parasailing a few years ago while we were on a Disney cruise. I loved it once I did it but I admit ... I was scared. I do not seek thrills outside of the theme park ... it's just not in my nature.

Anyway, I'd seen a series on The Discovery Channel a few years back about an expedition of climbers who were trying to reach the summit of Everest and it was fascinating ... for the life of me I can't understand what drives these folks to do what they do and to subject themselves to so much suffering while they attempt to do it. I respect their determination and courage but I think they're all probably certifiable.

The book is a great and very sobering read - hard to put down once I started reading on my lunch hour yesterday. I'm about halfway through ... probably will finish tomorrow. If you haven't read it and are at all interested in this kind of thing I highly recommend it. It's fascinating ... I know I keep using that word but it's the best one to describe what I've read.

Just wondering ... would you guys be interested in seeing pictures from the 2007 Flower & Garden Festival? I realized the other day that I never shared the pictures we took when we were there for our anniversary because I never finished the TR ... I just did the food reviews.

We have a lot of great pictures and I'd be happy to post them on the blog if anyone wants to take a peek.

Let me know. :goodvibes

Wine tree... wow...

Thinking of reading the book about the rescue of the Dr. at Antarctica, but that's because our guys from the 109th did it...

But you're right... I think they all have to be a little off to do what they do...

And pictures??????? :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Hey, I was just thinking about you earlier ... you've been kinda scarce lately ... busy?

Yeah, I know ... who isn't busy? :rolleyes::laughing:

A little bit of busy and a little under the weather...

My project is SUPPOSED to come together this week...so please keep everything crossed (except for any vital body parts...) that it all comes through...

Still hoping to make it down to the world at the beginning of May but it all depends on this week...

Planky wants to know why there are so many kinds of Nyquil and what's the difference between the green and the turquoise ones... :faint:

& the reason why I got sick is cause I spent last Saturday night in LINE waiting for the opening weekend of Jumpin Jacks... (if you remember... Planky's very first place to eat here in Scotia...)

Yes... the woman dressed in the blue vest IS my mother... and that's the line... :scared1:

IMG_2229.jpg

THIS is where we were TRYING to get to...

IMG_2231.jpg

Yes... this place IS this famous... it made it on the news opening day... it seems over 200 kids from our high school suspiciously had Dr.s appts during lunch that afternoon...

Feel better! I hate Nyquil ... have hated it ever since my mother gave it to me when I was 12 years old and suffering with what turned out to be a raging case of strep throat. :scared:

Bendy wants to know why there's been nothing announced about that review contest. She suspects that it was canceled and has decided that she is not supposed to win nor would she be allowed to win. This disgruntles her because she spent many hours polishing her submissions and also because two friends (one on-line and one in the real world) spent much time helping and encouraging her to "go fer it."

to quote Martin Prince ... "MY GEODE MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED!!!"

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

& for all of the Dole Whip enthusiasts... we get them all summer... different flavors... (and yes Bendy... they have choc/van twist... WITH sprinkles...)

Note cool and safe photo technique... There was no way I was going to cut in line just to get a picture... I wanted to live until Dinner...
