Belly Showing in Prom Dress

I don't like them myself, but I'm very much a "wear what you want, it's not my concern" sort of person. As long as I'm not starting at your buttcrack, or something, I'm good. :p

There has been the insinuation, actually more than insinuation, that the teens that wear more "revealing" clothing like a belly button showing are to be shamed.

I just don't get the more prudish posters actually admitting they sit over their facebook pages and cluck, cluck over what other young ladies chose to wear to the prom, judging them and their character just because it is not "their" style.

I didn't say anything of the kind.

Honestly most of the ones being discussed in this thread aren't anything I would have worn and do feel is a bit casual for prom. However I can see why someone would want a two piece prom dress, I imagine it would be MUCH easier to put on, much easier to wear, easier to use the rest room in, etc. You know all the reasons why you might want a 2 piece bathing suit or to wear a blouse and skirt over a dress.

However I wouldn't say anyone shouldn't wear what they want, assuming of course it meets the dress code the school set out for the event, since we are talking about a high school activity here. I know for sure my school wouldn't have allowed these, but they also didn't allow us to wear shorts to school so my school just had an overly restrictive dresscode.

How about a tornado showing in prom pic.

OMG!!!! Her KNEES are showing:scared1: and she's wearing (GASP) TENNIS SHOES!! :scared1: Now I'm offended!:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

It rained ALL DAY of prom on the 30th. The girls all brought tennis shoes and boots to wear outside if it had stopped raining long enough to grab some outside shots. They were going to wear them, then put on their heels before they left. Some of those heels on their shoes would have sunk in a nano second with how soaked our ground was.

I would have just left the tennis shoes on..a lot more comfortable, on the other note, how far away was the tornado and did you know it was there when you snapped the picture or was it photoshop. If not photoshop, that's going to be a prom picture to remember!!! :):)

So, if I am confident and have self respect, I can wear that tube top to my next job interview?

I love myself and I also love my new bathing suit. I look very good in it. I am going to go to the grocery store and shop in it.

I get what you are saying about loving yourself and making your own decisions. But societal norms still dictate many situations, as it should be.
If you want to wear a bathing suit to the grocery store, do it! Who am I to judge? And obviously, a lot of jobs have dress codes.

Just because women don't conform to YOUR standards of beauty or conform to what YOU think is appropriate doesn't mean they lack self respect.

Is that going to be the standard now though? Wear what makes you feel beautiful, comfortable and confident? So a boy could go to prom in a wife-beater t shirt and pants around his knees? That would be classy just because he feels good in it? There is nothing wrong with dressing for the occasion...dress codes help those who have a little problem figuring out what's appropriate. If anything, there is too much "I'll wear what makes me comfortable" (e..g.wearing pajamas to Walmart) and not too little.

And when people are desperately following trends for the approval of their peers, they are NOT making their own decisions and not worrying about what people think. Just the opposite.

But guess what? They have the right to do that! It's a free country. I like brownies, so does half of the world, does that make my liking of brownies "desperate for approval" because most everyone else likes it?No. Girls can like things that are on trend and not like it for approval.

I saw some of these pictures on the news this morning, and all I was thinking was WTH are they doing? Why are they not cowering in the basement. LOL.

Nope, none. I'm not scandalized, I just don't think they're appropriate. IMO, a great look for a formal occasion does not include showing your stomach.

Too casual for prom?! Really? This is the actual two piece that my friend's DD wore. It has a small train for goodness sake. It looks completely formal to me. And then the color and polka dots make it seem young and fun. Honestly in a weekend full of Prom photos it stood out as one of the prettiest dresses.

If you just don't like it, fine, but there is nothing inappropriate.

oh that is adorable!

I probably would have hated it. I am not a fan of teenagers wearing revealing clothing. Shrug.

Holier than thou? No. Just my opinion.

And, of course you wouldn't give a rat's butt what I think. Why would you? I am a stranger. No need to explain yourself. Your teen daughter feels good going out in revealing clothing. Cool.

The bolded stands out as one of the rudest comments I've ever read here.

I never said too casual. But regardless, I'm still not a fan and don't think that style is appropriate for formal occasions.

The prom dresses I see that a few posters just shared are MUCH classier than was the style at my prom 10 years ago. That's when the two piece ones really came out in force and the tops were TINY... Or the dresses had so many cutouts that they shouldn't have been called dresses.

I am curious if those styles are too casual for proms, where would they be worn? Aren't they prom dresses?

DD is a Sophomore and going to the prom with a good friend who is a Senior. We had this conversation. The 2 piece look is very much in style with the girls and I can't blame her for not wanting to look like Little Bo Peep ( like I did at Prom). She's paying for half the dress and I think she made a great choice. Yes, there is some skin showing, but it's still very age appropriate. This is the dress she decided on.

I think that's beautiful! Hope she has a great time!

Beautiful! I love it and can't imagine anyone having an issue with this.
