Belly Showing in Prom Dress

one can understand why so many teenagers are pregnant or have stds
You do realize the teen pregnancy has been on the decline for the past 20 years? Apparently midriffs showing does not throw teens into uncontrolled lust.

Now let's see your stats on STD's in teens...

Oh, and welcome to the Community board since you just joined a few hours ago.

Not my cup of tea, but not anything newsworthy IMO.

I just have to chuckle at the comments about how prom dresses are supposed to be elegant. Prom dresses have always been about what's en vogue. Does anybody look back at their prom dress and think wow that was elegant? I can't imagine anybody who went to prom in the 80s thinks that. I wore a pretty "timeless" ballgown type dress circa 2000 and even I look back and think "omg, hide the pictures."

The highest incidences of STDs in the US are among seniors and have been on the rise. Thanks to non-abstinence only sex ed initiatives, teen instances have been on the decline.

So maybe all those in the senior homes should be bundling up in blankets to keep any skin from showing.

So showing two inches of belly is casual, beach wear, trashy and NOW causes pregnancy and STDs. Who knew? Apparently we have been explaining the birds and the bees all wrong.

Seriously people?

Prom is supposed to be a celebration of the end of their school years. They should be able to enjoy the dance. Comfort, appropriate and classy should all be considerations and most two piece dresses cover all of that.

I am guessing some of you would also need smelling salts over the trend of wearing converse over those horrid tools of torture that are sold as shoes for prom. But the girls are comfortable, cute and able to actually dance at prom. Casual, yep. But well worth it.

There is nothing remotely trashy about showing two inches of skin. Necklines to the throat and skirt to the floor with no split. Where in that can anyone possibly get trashy??

Some here need to go do some prom dress shopping. You will begin to embrace the two piece because there are some pretty awful dresses out there.

If you don't like the style, fine. But to say some pretty awful stuff about the girls wearing them or about the dress they choose is ridiculous.

Wow, just wow. Even though teen pregnancy has gone down significantly, your comment was still pretty pathetic. Is there a correlation between showing and inch of belly and sexual activity (keeping in mind these dresses cover up more in the bust area than most dresses).

Maybe those so offended have daughters too "fluffy" to wear them. I think they would only flatter two of my dds' who are super skinny and fit, with zero fat anywhere. My other DD is slender, but curvy and soft.

It wasn't that long ago that showing an ankle was considered risqué.

That prior comment was unnecessary. But so is your comment about people not liking 2 piece dresses having daughters too fluffy to wear them.

What?! My satin electric blue floor length with a big white satin flower wasn't elegant?! Paired with my date wearing a white tux with electric blue bow tie?!

Not even a little bit fluffy - 5' and 95 lbs. Sorry DH and I just don't think a midriff showing is appropriate. That's our belief and we are paying for the gown. Where you ever got the idea that means we have a "fluffy" or I'm guessing you mean overweight daughter is really ridiculous!

Somehow I don't think you mean that one can see where the same type of thinking that condemns a young woman as "trashy" or otherwise negative simply for having a bare midriff also leads to a lack of comprehensive sexual education, which in turn leads to higher rates of unwanted pregnancy and STDs---but if that IS what you are saying, I agree.

The last prom I attended was in 1965 and most of the prom dresses were so "chaste", they wouldn't have budged a hermit off a 10-foot rock (I know for a fact that my school uniform showed more skin than my prom dress did.) But you know what? There were still a goodly number of "premature" nine-pound babies born nine months later, if you get my drift.....

I've always tried to tell the young ladies in my life to "showcase" one thing...cleavage, leg, midriFF, back. You don't want low cut front, low cut back, high leg slit all on one dress.

Pick one and cover up the rest. A little mystery is s good thing.

Interesting first post. And look, they include four links to a store website.

:welcome:

ETA: I was responding to the post directly above mine which has since been deleted.

If they have the body for it I don't have a problem with that type of dress. If that was the style for my prom I probably would have worn one...I was thin in 1975. :)

??????????????? why bump up 4 month old thread? OP wasn't a first post???

There was a post promoting a website that was posted today, it looks like it was deleted.

OP- means original poster, so the OP is the first post or first poster :)
PP- previous post, or poster.

Geesh. When I opened this thread I thought I was going to see girls with pasties over their nipples. Not complete two piece with an inch of belly showing.
