Being short!

DH is 5'9"
DS17 is 6'1"
DS16 is 5'9"
ME? 5'3" on a good hair day but if it's a "flat hair day" I'm actually 5'2".

My dad was about 5'11"
My mom is around 5'3"-5'4"
Sister is 5'5"
Brother is 6'2"

I don't reach 5'2 but its never really bothered me. Sure I would love to have longer legs and buying pants is a pain as even the short lengths can be too long for flats and having to ask for help at the supermarket but its never been that big if a deal for me.

DH is only 5'6. The only time height has bothered me a bit is with DS. He's 15 but just a but over 5'3 right now. Dr says he will still grow but won't expect more than 5'6-5'7. He wishes he was taller. DD is going to be short too but it doesn't bother her

Oh and folks , get cars with different settings. Driver 1 and driver 2. Push a button and things are back to my liking !

I always thought I was short at 5'4".
But DD is 5'1" and done. Let me tell ya, that three inches is a big deal. DH is only two inches taller than me, and we can use the same car and only adjust the rear view mirror.
Now that DD is driving, every time I get in the car I have to readjust the seat, stearing wheel, side mirrors and rear view. Drives me CRAZY! I'm gonna have to get the kid her own car! :drive:

She just has fun with it. She has a t-shirt that says "I'm not short, I'm fun-size." And, like me, she enjoys wearing heels; so, she can always size herself up on occasion! :thumbsup2

I'm usually "just" tall enough to reach top shelves, but DD and I did have a problem at the grocery store a couple weeks ago and were discussing whether we should work together to reach the item or bother going to get a stocker. A lovely (and tall) woman saw our problem and helped us out. :thumbsup2

I could have written your post! I am 5'3" and dd is 5'1" and done.
She refers herself to fun size all the time :) She can wear 4 inch heels with ease when se wants and has expected her height.

Not sure how tall she is ( maybe 5'2") but my youngest DD is a 3rd grade school teacher ( first year) and she is nervous about taking her kids on a school ( field) trip because she is afraid the folks there won't think she is the teacher. Her students are almost as tall as she is lol. She is the shortest in our family. She had a fit when her younger brother ( the baby ) grew past her. At 17 he is taller than i am. ( i'm 5'4")

I'm 5'1" (and a quarter...yes, that extra 1/4" matters! :teeth: ) The only thing that really bothers me is that I'm VERY disproportionate - I'm long-waisted, to the point where if I wear a one-piece bathing suit, I need a "tall," but my pants inseam is only 26", so "petite" pants drag on the floor. I'm always seeking out capris in tall lengths...

I used to work with a woman who was 4'11". We measured once...her legs were actually longer than mine! My arms are short, too. 3/4-length sleeves are long sleeves on me.

But I'm not at all petite. I have a large frame, built like a linebacker. DH wears a suit coat/sport coat in a size 42 and it fits my shoulders/upper back PERFECTLY (thankfully, it's too big everywhere else).

Due to back and knee injuries, I never wear heels. Plus I just don't like them. However, at my wedding, my SIL, who is 5'8" and was wearing 3" heels, was my MOH. I ended up choosing the photo of us in which she bent down and we're "cheek to forehead/temple." The one in which we're just standing side-by-side looked ridiculous...I only came up to her shoulders. Not to mention that in the photo of her, DH, and their brother, DH is the shortest (he's 5'8" himself)...

I'm 5'3. My mom is 4'10 and dad is 5'6. I was 4'11 until senior year, then I hit an unexpected growth spurt. :). And I was actually an extremely early bloomer, not late

I was 4'9 in the 9th grade

4'10 in the 10th grade

and 4'11 in the 11th grade.

Thought I'd reach 5 feet in the 12th grade but I completely STOPPED at 4'11 and a half. :(

Just had a physical and now I'm on my way DOWN! I measured at a whopping 4'10 again...:badpc:

I'm a munchkin again!:goodvibes

4'11.5 here as well!!! Sure I get teased on a weekly basis but that's been part of my life since I was little. Oh well. :confused3 I go along with it. I do hate shopping though......capris fit like pants, pants are always super long, etc. The tailor that i use makes a killing out of me!

I always tell people that when you only have so many, every fraction matters!

I have the problem of being extremely well endowed in the places the world thinks a woman should be endowed. So in order to find pants that fit over my caboose, they end up too long, and a shirt that doesn't make me look inappropriate is generally baggy and long and gives the impression I'm pregnant.

I had the same worry about my potential wedding photos, as DBf is almost a foot taller than I am. But I'm taking a lesson from his parents. His mom is around 5'2" and his dad is 6'. When you first look at their wedding photo, it looks normal, with only a couple of inches height difference. But when you look closer, you'll see that his mom is actually standing on the step ABOVE his dad. She just used the train of her dress to conceal it. The woman is brilliant. But then again, she is a chemical engineer...

5'4" here. My mom was 4'10 1/2" but at 67 she is now 4'8". I also have an aunt who is either 5' or 5'2 (can't remember which).

The problem I have with being petite is the petite sections in department stores :headache:. They are so small with hardly any clothes that I like! It feels like it's for the 50+ crowd on one end and the teenagers on the other end. The misses section always have A LOT more choices in clothes! I can get away with wearing misses sizes in most cases since I'm pretty much on the border, but there are certain clothes that I like but need to have it in a petite size (cowl neckline shirts being one of them). The problem I have is that it's not available in petite :headache:

My mom has a more difficult time finding clothes that fit her. She has even gone into the children's section and still can't find anything to fit her. Mostly b/c the clothes are made to look cutesy for girls.

I'm 5'2", but have long arms and legs, so no petite clothing for me. It's never bothered me. I became a good climber at a very early age. :thumbsup2

me too...but I'm not quite 5'2"...maybe 5'1 1/2"! I don't mind it at all! Honestly, I never wanted to be any taller.

My DH is 6' and I like the height difference!

As a small child, I was always on the taller side. At 10 years old, I had my last growth spurt and everyone else kept on growing!

I'm short.

5' 2". My dd (11) is going to be as well. On her last physical, she was in the 10th percentile for height and 15th percentile for weight. I've told her for as long as I can remember that we are just going to be "tiny" (as my son calls us) people. We joke and say that we are FUN-SIZE.

With petite clothing, I have had great luck with Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, and Ann Taylor Loft. And even though they don't have a petite department, I have also had really good luck with Express. They carry their pants in 00 shorts - not always in the store, but you can order online.

I'm 5'2 1/2. Which I think the 1/2 is what makes it even more difficult. Petite pants are too short & regular are too long.:rolleyes2

At least being a short woman isn't typically seen as a negative (unless you are trying to be a model). Who I feel bad for are short men...most women want to date tall men and I know many short men who have developed "short man syndrome" where they act super macho to try to make up for their height. (That's just what I call that behavior...probably not really a syndrome!)

Let me join in - 5'1" here! DH is 6'3" - luckily DD is at 5'7" and might still eek out a little more. It's so weird hugging my "baby girl" and me hitting her at about b**b level! :rotfl:

I too thank all of you taller folks who help out at the grocery store - I stand there like this :scratchin - until someone taller passes by! Of course at home, I still stand on chairs (when I was younger I would jump up on the counter - those days are long gone!)

Oh the joys!

I'm 4'11" 1/2. I always joked that I could be Mickey or Minnie. Yes it is hard buying pants and trying to reach things in stores, etc. I guess I have just learned to live with it. A lot of people in my family are short. On the plus side people think I am younger than I am (and I am NOT young!! HA HA!).

Only 5' 1/4 ".

DH is 6' 1/2".

DD is 5' 4", DS is 5' 7".

Kids are (jokingly) mad that DH did not marry his 6' ex-girlfriend.
